Since BIWI started the low-carb Bootcamp, interest amongst Mumsnetters has been consistently high. Over 400 of you have taken part so far ? and that's not counting all those who are lurking at the back and haven't quite dared yet to put their name on the weight loss spreadsheet!

We'd like to make Bootcamp even better from here on in, and would really value the opinions of all of you who have tried or completed it - if you have please complete a short survey here. Actually even the opinions and impressions of Bootcamp amongst those of you who haven't yet been lured in are welcome Grin.

There's a £50 voucher to be won by anyone who completes the survey and adds their details at the end.

If you've just seen something about the camp but not yet taken part please share any thoughts you have about it on this thread.

Thanks
MNHQ

Monday bump!

maidofmess · 01/07/2013 15:37

I've done the survey, too! I started this WOE with the latest bootcamp at the end of April and lost 12lbs in the first 3-4 weeks. SInce then, I've hovered around the same weight ? a pound or two up, a pound or two down ? but that's down to me not sticking to the diet and having too many little cheats, which all add up. Am now ready to have another push and am going to try to stick to it through most of July ? using the ongoing chat thread for support. It has been a real eye-opener for me in terms of eating more healthily (lots more veg) and really not missing sugary carbs when I was in the swing of things a few weeks back. Skin, hair, nails all felt better and stomach flatter. It's also easy to stick to once you've got over the dreaded carb flu feeling. Chat thread and spreadsheet a massive help in keeping going with it. Some of the hardest parts ? getting back on the wagon after falling off and drinking enough water! Thank you BIWI, Willie and all others for support!

I've seen bootcamp occasionally crop up in thread titles but never really known what they were or who they were for. Reading this thread though makes it sound like what I need - please could somebody point me in the right direction... Is there a basic intro thread that explains it somewhere?
thanks - and congrats to all those who've done so well already!

WillieWaggledagger · 02/07/2013 07:44

zipzap, do join us! you're right to want to read into it a bit as some of the advice seems so counter to what you're used to so it's good to understand why you need to make certain food choices.

biwi has written some info here:

what is the low carb diet?

how low carb diets work

the low carb diet plan

low carb bootcamp

do join us on the latest bootcamp thread here. we're just coming to the end of a formal 10-week bootcamp, but you can join at any time and there is always a chat thread that runs between bootcamps so plenty of people for advice, support and general chitchat

zipzap · 03/07/2013 21:52

Thanks for that WillieWaggledagger

I'll definitely go and have a read up. Bizarrely the low carb thing sounds completely reasonable to me, I'm quite happy with that side of things, it was more how it worked on MN that I wasn't sure about!

I have also come to realise that when I was a student and cooking for myself I had a pretty low carb existence, not completely obviously (there was lots of a little alcohol, chocolate and fruit in there too but not much bread or potatoes. And I was always really skinny. Then settled down with dh who is much more a meat and potatoes and 2 veg guy - and over time I've put on loads of weight so that I'm probably as heavy as I was when I was a student Sad. And although I'm always thought of as the fussy eater one I've also come to realise that dh is just as fussy, it's just that he likes 'traditional' things - ie his meat, veg and potatoes - whereas he couldn't cope with the stuff that I used to make for me. But of course, I've ended up cooking the stuff he likes and making it for both of us.

And my other problem is that I hate water, milk, coffee and tea so tend to drink fruit juice or cordial. I used to drink low sugar squash but got scared off by a friend years ago talking about the problems with artificial sweeteners so drink the full sugar stuff which I know can't be good for me either (albeit in a different way) but I haven't yet found anything that I like to drink that I can knock back and not get dehydrated because I'm not drinking enough. Hey ho, will go and investigate the links to see if I can find some inspiration. Many thanks again!

LondonMe · 06/07/2013 14:28

I'm sorry, but I've searched everywhere with no luck. How do I join the boot camp? and more importantly, how do I add myself to this spreadsheet I've been reading about? Thanks.

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/07/2013 14:45

Here you go! Come and join us...

MrsHerculePoirot · 06/07/2013 14:46

The OP on the thread, links to the spreadsheet which has all the rules and information on it. You can just add yourself to the bottom of the spreadsheet and come and jump in! The 10 weeks is just coming to an end, but we all keep chatting on the threads and some people keep weighing in (I am one of them) and then probably there will be another one sometime in Sept/Oct I should think!

LondonMe · 06/07/2013 15:23

Thank you MrsHerculesPoirot Smile I had found the link and added myself. I go on holiday in 3 weeks, and hopefully I can lose a few before I go. I need all the help I can get. Thanks again.

hazchem · 07/07/2013 07:54

I've filled in the survey. I came onto Low carb to have a winge and found this so feel better reading other success stories!
Just had a thought if you do decided to have meetings or some training or something like that can Mumsnet fly BIWI out to Australia for a all expenses paid holiday training were I get to meet her in person :)

BIWI · 07/07/2013 14:09

Ooooh - yes please to expenses-paid trip to Australia! Grin

GreatBags · 08/07/2013 07:21

I lurked extensively and then had some questions answered by BIWI (thank you btw). I did it for 2 weeks and lost 8lbs which was amazing especially as it lessened the stubborn fat that I have always collected around my middle. I had lost weight through WW last year but had got stuck in a cycle of binging and was constantly 5lbs off/5lbs on.
I only have to lose a few more pounds but must admit I am so much more happy with my new body shape that I have relaxed a bit so have not lost anymore. However the main problem this has caused me is sugar cravings. I don't really miss rice, bread, potatoes which I would binge on in a WW fail. I am starting again today as I want to be back on track for my holiday in 2 weeks.
As for changing my life: I can wear clothes I haven't fitted into for years, I have my confidence back and am having more sex with my husband. All without feeling like I have had to starve myself.

BIWI · 09/07/2013 09:00

I'm bumping this back into Active Convos - please, if you have ever done Bootcamp or lurked at the back, please fill in the survey!

BIWI · 09/07/2013 09:01

Link to the survey

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/07/2013 17:32

I have filled out the survey. Re the cost of things - I have put down that I would expect to pay for eg personalised support from Bootcamp leaders (which sounds AMAZING) but it would really have to not cost very much for me to be able to afford it, iyswim.

I need to get back on the wagon - keep restarting on a Monday and falling off on a Friday and all weekend!

Alambil · 10/07/2013 21:25

WHERE is this boot camp? is it in real life or on here? (can't get to London / anywhere!)

TELL MEEEEE!

I have 10st to lose :( to get to a "healthy" 11st.... (I'm 5ft7 and of large frame - am certainly not petite!) and am TERRIFIED...

What if I go all wobbly?!

Alambil · 10/07/2013 21:26

oops I meant NOT done the survey

BIWI · 10/07/2013 22:21

LewisFan - Bootcamp is on Mumsnet so it's virtual. Which means it's easily accessible!

We've just finished the latest one but this is the ongoing chat thread.

If you look at the OP you'll see the spreadsheet that we use - you're welcome to add your name if you want to.

You don't need to! But if you look at the tabs on the bottom of the spreadsheet you will see Bootcamp rules. Just 10 of them, and the idea is to make it really easy to low carb.

Odriscoll71 · 10/07/2013 22:39

Hi all thinking of giving the bootcamp a go any advice and tips on getting started??

BIWI · 10/07/2013 22:42

Best thing to do, Odriscoll, is to have a look at the rules which are on one of the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet

The idea of Bootcamp is that it's simple/easy to follow.

And if you have any questions, come and join us on the current chat thread. We've just finished the latest Bootcamp, but this is the ongoing support thread.

Any questions, just ask!

Alambil · 10/07/2013 23:17

thanks BIWI

I've low-carbed before when my mum paid for a personal trainer for me for a few months... I lost 2st in 10 weeks, but I've lost my mojo, so to speak

I will join - do I need anything special?

BIWI · 11/07/2013 08:16

No need for anything special! Just need to make sure you have emptied your fridge/cupboards of all that high carb stuff.

Join the chat thread and we'll help you get your mojo back.

BIWI · 15/07/2013 18:37

Bumping this to see if we can get a few more of you to fill it in!

CrabbyBigBottom · 18/07/2013 09:30

Bumping again for you BIWI (I've already done it).

BIWI · 18/07/2013 10:16

Thanks, Crabby!
