Thank you for taking part in the testing of NutraSea Kids and NutraSea+D.

Here are the feedback questions for the first stage of the process - there are just three questions. Please post your responses below.

Questions:

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

Many thanks.
MNHQ
Please remember if you have more than one child, you should be trying NutraSea Kids on just one child. The product test will last a total of three months. Everyone who adds their feedback here and after the next two subsequent feedback requests will receive a £10 Holland and Barrett gift voucher as well as entered into a prize draw to win £100 ASOS voucher.

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

My child refuses to touch fish so wouldn't know. They don't complain of it smelling like fish though. They think it tastes like flavoured water, but with very little flavour. I don't think it tastes of fish, I find it less oily than other liquid fish oils.

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

Taken straight from the spoon. They normally have a chewy vitamin afterwards their fish oil but I don't think I would have needed that if this had been the first fish oil they tried.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

I'd recommend it to those with children too young for capsules or to adults who find capsules difficult to swallow. Personally I don't like apple flavour and while it barely tastes of apple I'd opt for the very berry instead.

sickofsocalledexperts - the adult version has more EPA/DHA.

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

Not the kids one. It tastes of bubblegum. NutraSea+D tastes very vaguely of fish.

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

I take NutraSea+D with a teaspoon. I give it to my son in his juice.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

Yes because it's pleasant tasting (NutraSea+D) and easy to disguise doses in juice. In terms of physical benefits, it's impossible to say as yet.

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

  • The kid's version tastes more fishy than the adult one

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

  • usually my child prefers to drink some juice straight afterwards. I don't mind it by itself.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

  • Not particularly as it is more fiddly to take than capsules.
Hulababy · 22/03/2010 20:09

Me

Do you find NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

No, it tastes of oil. It is like drinking oil. The apple flavour is pretty much indistinguishable. I can taste/feel the oil for ages after and it is quite unpleasant, sorry.

Do you tend to add NutraSea+D to your food or consume it some other way?

No, never thought too. I assumed the flavouring means I shouldn't have to. Would be more hassle than it is worth too. I have it straight from the spoon.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea+D to your friends?

No, sorry.

DD (7y)

Does your child find NutraSea Kids tastes of fish?

No, but she doesn't like it She has had capsules for a few years with no complaints, but this is the first time she has said it tastes oily. I don't think the berry flavour hides the oil taste TBH.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids to your friends?

No, sorry. I think capsules are easier and there are other products on the market that are more palatable.

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

No

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

Just take it off the spoon

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

No as it tastes/the texture is not pleasant. Although if they could mix it in some food easily (thinking much younger children) then it could be worth a go.

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 22/03/2010 23:55

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish? - My child has not mentioned the taste of fish but says it feels funny in her mouth and it makes her gag a little. I have a very sensitive sense of smell and taste - the nutrasea+d smells quite strongly of fish with a hint of apple and tastes quite fishy to me. So fishy that it seems weird to have something sweet like apple flavour with it. I think I'd be happy if it was flavoured with white wine and garlic instead. .

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way? - dd's I now mix into her juice in which she has senna for constipation. I try to just take it from the spoon but to be honest most times it makes me gag and I'm struggling to swallow it at all.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

  • wish I could as it is a product I believev in but it is really quite unpleasant to take and I feel that there must be a better way.
BelleDeChocolateFluffyBunny · 23/03/2010 00:13

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish? No, my son said it didn't taste of anything.

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way? no, it was given to him on a spoon.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends? Not yet, it should take a few months to make any difference to his attention span and behaviour so it's very early days at the moment. It does smell very sweet aswell, I'm not entirely convinced that he can't taste anything so I need to change the time of when he is given it to make sure any food/drink he's just had isn't masking any taste.

snice · 24/03/2010 13:17

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

No, DS has never mentioned this

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

DS has taken it from a medicine spoon with no complaints

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?
Possibly if taste was an issue as my son seems to quite like it

No, he likes the taste

No, I just give it to him on a spoon. It's not nice in food.

No - I find the capsules much easier and less messy.

trice · 29/03/2010 13:16

for me
the apple one tastes vile
I have been taking it from the spoon
No - I prefer capsules.

mamazon · 29/03/2010 13:27

DD thinks the berry one tastes of bubble gum too. she doesn't like the taste though. she hasn't mentioned fish. I think teh apple one is vile but not fishy

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

no we take it off the spoon and have a drink ready for afterwards.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

Not really.

fruitshootsandheaves · 29/03/2010 16:04

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

Only very slightly. DD was taking the adult one for 2 days until I realised there were 2 sorts in the box. She hasn't complained about taking it but she's not very enthusiastic either! She says it is much better than the sort she used to take.

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

we just take it off a spoon and usually have a drink of orange juice with it.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

I would recommend it for people who find swallowing capsules difficult because it is much less fishy than the others we have tried, but I still think capsules are better.

Ds1 taking nutrasea kids

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

No, he likes the aftertaste- says it's a little fruity

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?

He takes it off the spoon.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?

Yes. Ds2 is very very fussy and it's hard to get him to take any suppliments, but he tried a spoon one day and liked it.

wigglybeezer · 29/03/2010 18:15

DS2 doesn't think it tastes fishy but he doesn't like it, finding the bubblygummy flavour too strong.

DS2 has his on a spoon, holding his nose and eating something straight after!

I would recommend it to friends whose children are not too fussy.

JollyPirate · 29/03/2010 19:15

Do you/your child find NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D tastes of fish?

No it doesn't, however my son disliked the oily sensation and refused to take it after the first spoonful! If you could put it in a capsule then I think we'd be on to a winner. FWIW I took a spoonful and have to say that there was no repeat fishy taste - just a nice berry one.

Do you tend to add NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your child's/ your food or consume it some other way?
I just gave it from a teaspoon however, suspect I could combine it in a salad dressing.

At this stage in the project would you recommend NutraSea Kids and/or NutraSea+D to your friends?
I would definitely tell people that it isn't fishy.

What happened with this product test? I was sure I was meant to add two more sets of feedback, but never received any prompts to threads (nor can I find any!)

Did anyone ever get their Holland and Barrett vouchers?

heymammy · 18/05/2010 21:23

Hi Norma, I think they have decided that we only now need to feedback at the end of the test so missing out the one in the middle.

HTH

HelenMumsnet · 18/05/2010 21:31

Hello. Not sure of answer to your q, NormaSnockers but know someone who will - so will scurry off and ask.

Hulababy · 18/05/2010 21:35

Yes, we got an email a little while back saying that we would now only have 2 feedbacks, the one done in March and then one at the end of the trial. Not sure when that is TBH.

Just know that we don't like the oil.

NormaSnorks · 18/05/2010 21:40

Oh - the 'feedback only at end of test' is now ringing a bell - perhaps I DID have the e-mail and then deleted it...

OK

(Kids no longer taking it, but DH & I are)

HelenMumsnet · 18/05/2010 21:40

X-posts, heymammy - sounds right
