This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who tested Eedi Family online maths lessons with their child in years 6, 7 or 8*. Eedi Family is an online Maths learning platform that provides interactive maths lessons for children to build confidence in maths.

Here’s what Eedi has to say: “We believe that every child has the potential to thrive in maths given the right support. Using our experience of working with 15k+ schools, we want to help every child to build the skills and confidence to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Our new product, Eedi Family helps children safely practise maths at home and build confidence. With the power of data and a team of expert teachers, we’ve created conversational online lessons with a virtual learning companion that adapt to your child’s needs and align with the national curriculum.

Join us in trying an affordable alternative to private tuition that helps your child to try their best and want to keep learning.”

Selected testers received a one month free trial of Eedi Family and were asked to complete at least one virtual lesson and quiz per week.

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the following questions as well as sharing any other thoughts you have and completing the short survey we’ve emailed you.

  1. What did you like most about Eedi Family?
  2. What was the best feature of Eedi Family?
  3. How did you explain Eedi Family to your child and how involved were you during their first session?
  4. How would you describe Eedi Family to a friend?
  5. What could Eedi do better to help your child build confidence in maths and to support you as a parent in home learning?

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £100 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. What did you like most about Eedi Family?
Sorry - it was a bit of a disaster for us all round. So difficult. The user journeys just don't work, aren't standard (eg adding users, changing settings). The text is not suited to online - far too wordy and convoluted. The graphics were misleading in some places. 15 minute explanations were too much for my 10 year old.
  1. What was the best feature of Eedi Family?
Sorry - it just seemed a bit amateur. You need to do separate testing for content and the user experience. You won't be able to tease out the problems without looking separately at the 2. I am sure you are confident in the content but you need a professional to look at the UX. It's not something anyone can do.
  1. How did you explain Eedi Family to your child and how involved were you during their first session?

We sat and started doing it together. But we quickly lost the will to live. We like maths. We "get" maths. But we didn't get it once we'd gone through the lesson on positive and negative numbers. We were confused.

  1. How would you describe Eedi Family to a friend?
An online maths course
  1. What could Eedi do better to help your child build confidence in maths and to support you as a parent in home learning?
  • don't make everything so convoluted: 2 minute explanations might get a child;s attention
  • you have fallen into the maths mastery trap of throwing too much language at a non-language subject. Don't use words to explain. They just confuse. Use examples, pictures & animation

What did you like most about Eedi?/What was the best feature of Eedi? - the ability to choose a lesson based on a quiz question.

How did you explain Eedi Family to your child? DD was keen to do extra maths as she was falling behind due to Covid, and I explained that this was a good opportunity. I wasn't involved in the lessons as she is much more tech savvy than me and Eedi didn't work on my phone anyway. It only works on laptops which is a bit irritating.

How would you describe Eedi Family to a friend? It's a maths tutoring website with a different subject each week.

What could Eedi do better? It would be good to have a library so DD could do lessons based on what she is learning in class at the time and feels she needs support on. At the moment it feels random and rather hit or miss. Also the online live tutoring wasn't something which appealed to her. Re the videos, she usually watches YouTube videos at 1.5 or 2 x speed and has zero appetite to sit through long videos when most of it is irrelevant to her learning needs. A much more tailored and snappy approach would be better for this audience.
