Recruitment for this product test is now closed

We’re looking for Mumsnetters with at least one child aged 5 to 8 to test Banjo Robinsons’ personalised pen pal experience with their children. Banjo Robinson is a magical, globetrotting CAT who sends proper, paper post (and creative activities!) to children twice a month, from exciting destinations around the world!

Over the course of the product test, testers and their children will receive:

  • Banjo Robinson’s map of the world (with initial letter)
  • 2 personalised letters
  • 2 personalised sticker sheets
  • 2 sketch pages (for colouring in)
  • 2 reply pages
  • 2 reply envelopes
  • 1 recipe card
  • 1 city map

Here’s what Banjo Robinson has to say: “Banjo Robinson is a magical, globetrotting CAT who sends proper, paper post (and creative activities!) to children aged 5 to 8, twice a month, from exciting destinations around the world! Children can write back to Banjo and leave their replies under the sofa for overnight collection by 'Cat Mail’. Our website allows parents to add a paragraph to the end of the next letter their child receives (PS message), so that Banjo can answer their questions, reference their recent achievements, or simply send love and encouragement.

Each delivery includes a personalised letter from Banjo (now written by children’s author, Anna Kemp!), reply stationery, a colouring-in activity, personalised stickers, country facts, and a recipe from each country. Children also receive a big, beautiful map of the world poster with their first letter - they can add country stickers to this as they follow along with Banjo’s world tour!"

Developed by teachers, parents and children’s authors. A tool for reading, writing, geography, history, culture, languages, encouraging empathy, creative activities, and quality time with parent and child, away from screens.

Selected testers will be asked to complete the following simple tasks:

  1. Add a personalised PS message that is unique to your child when submitting your form online.
  2. Take any replies from your child out from under the sofa after they have gone to bed (just like the tooth fairy would!).
  3. Send a second personalised PS message for the second letter your child will receive.

After testing the pen pal experience for one month (two letters from Banjo!), you will be required to give your feedback on a thread on Mumsnet as well as completing a short survey. All testers who leave the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

If you’re interested in taking part, click here to sign up.

Thanks and good luck!

DD2 received her letter from Banjo this morning. She was so excited by her 'cat mail' and has got straight to replying!

Caillou · 11/04/2020 13:20

dd also received her letter today, she shared it with her sister who is 5 in June, they were both excited by different parts of the letter,

the reply has already been written and placed under the sofa

Poshlass1987 · 11/04/2020 13:42

Wow, my son was really excited when this pen pal banjo came and has set to work replying to him straight away. Thanks mums net!!

emphasisofmatter · 11/04/2020 16:37

Reply already written - my daughter was very excited by the whole experience. Glad there is a offer code on the three month subscription.

@LucyBMumsnet any chance of an offer code for the 12 month subscription from Banjo for Mumsnet users?

GeordieTerf · 11/04/2020 16:57

We were selected, but the letter didn't arrive this morning sadly. I suppose it will come Tuesday? But I need to submit the "PS" by Sunday? Not sure what to do?

GeordieTerf · 11/04/2020 17:03

Also: if I like the letters, can I sign up for a subscription, but for the same child? So a continuation from the free letters we are getting as part of the trial? Smile

CecilyBlue · 11/04/2020 19:38

We've still not received our letter but the deadline to write a ps message for the 2nd letter is tomorrow at midnight. Can anyone who has received theirs please give us an idea of what it says so I can fill in the ps message with some questions about the first letter. Thank you

PenguinsCantFly · 12/04/2020 06:13

Ours hasn't arrived either yet! The email I got for the PS message from BanjoHQ said that it had to be added by Tuesday?

So do we think we can leave the PS until then rather than tonight like the message from Lucy?

PenguinsCantFly · 12/04/2020 06:17

Ps...I'm really looking forward to the letter arriving Grin

Poshlass1987 · 12/04/2020 12:16

I haven't received the ps email yet? Deadline is tonight, what do I do if it doesn't arrive?
My son is really excited about this experience, he really enjoyed writing to banjo.

NeverTrustASmilingCat · 12/04/2020 12:42

Our letter hasn't arrived yet, but email says Tuesday so hopefully it will arrives on Tuesday.

PenguinsCantFly · 12/04/2020 14:31

@nevertrustasmilingcat are you going to wait until Tuesday to add the PS? I'm hoping that will be ok!

I think if our letter hasn't arrived by Tuesday, I might have to do a PS and then encourage my DS to ask that question when we get the first letter!

PenguinsCantFly · 12/04/2020 14:59

Just checked my email and although it says deadline is Tuesday, the email header says to do it my midnight Monday!

I tried to add a screenshot but it wouldn't post Sad

@lucybmumsnet what do you suggest for those of us who haven't received our first letter? Shall we add a PS that we think our DC will ask a question about?!

emphasisofmatter · 12/04/2020 15:50

Hi, a summary of the first letter if it helps..
-explains who Banjo is
-talks about child liking stories and banjo liking stories and adventure and mischief
-today Banjo is setting off on his round the world adventure
-asks child to write back and draw a picture of where they would like to go in an adventure

  • ps is totally separate
-ps states neighbourhood cat will collect the return letter from under the sofa -pps is personalised p.s

I hadn't the letter when I did the second p.s - don't think you have to link it to the letter writing really I did a totally random "p.s" both times about things we are doing at home etc.

emphasisofmatter · 12/04/2020 15:50

*hadn't received

GeordieTerf · 12/04/2020 17:11

I don't understand what you mean when you say that the PS is totally separate?

If it's not too much trouble, could you post a pic if you have it?

emphasisofmatter · 12/04/2020 17:45

It's separate as in not part of the main letter content, I.e. says goodbye from Banjo then new para for the P.S bit

PenguinsCantFly · 12/04/2020 18:03

Thanks @emphasisofmatter - that's really helpful!

I think I'll add a PS about something we've done at home then Smile

Lolly86 · 12/04/2020 19:31

Sounds good

GeordieTerf · 14/04/2020 12:30

Ours arrived today. It's beautifully packaged.

Sadly, our child is currently at their other parent's house, so they won't open it until Friday.

I filled out the PS with some activities we did at the weekend.

LucyBMumsnet · 14/04/2020 17:41

Hi @PenguinsCantFly,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you - I hope you had a great bank holiday weekend. Thank you to @emphasisofmatter for helping out with this query Smile

Don't worry if you didn't have a chance to add a PS message, you'll still receive your second letter from Banjo although there may not be a final paragraph.

Our letter arrived today @LucyBMumsnet and my Ds loved it! I preempted the PS so it's all good!

Looking forward to letter #2 Smile

Puddlelane123 · 15/04/2020 07:34

Just received ours and it was lovely seeing how well it captured the imagination of my 5 year old. The look of wonder at the realisation Banjo knew so many personal details!

I too wld be very interested in purchasing a subscription but want to know whether the letters would continue on from where we left off? Is there any way of finding out?

LucyBMumsnet · 15/04/2020 09:22

Hi @GeordieTerf and @Puddlelane123,

I will check in with Banjo HQ on this and get back to you ASAP Smile
