This thread is for the 11 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the AEG L89499FL washing machine.

Here’s what AEG have to say: ‘It’s time to care more for the garments that mean something to us. AEG washing machines are the best way to keep your clothes feeling like new. Even those one-of-a-kind pieces that are more than just a fabric. Our washing machines provide incredible gentleness and superb washing results using the least energy’

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and we will add some more questions after you've had a little bit of time to test out your washing machine.

So, for your first impressions, AEG would love to know:

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • So far, what do you think of: the wash results, sound levels and ease of use?
  • What features have been the most useful to you so far?

After you have tested the product for a few weeks, AEG would like to know:

  • Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?
  • What has been your favourite feature overall?
  • How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by AEG on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

I was re-reading the instructions today to investigate the time saver button (worth pressing, reduces the long cycle quite a bit) and I'm sure I read that you can turn the beeping off.

Kriek · 17/10/2016 11:19

It beeps 3 times x 3. I did notice it but I think you can turn it off. I really like the noise because it reminds me to hang out or put it in the dryer. :)

The timer delay is helpful. I can load it in the mornings for it to be ready just before I come home in the afternoon.

I am still playing with all the options to understand what works best for us. Still loving it though.

ReallyShouldKnowBetterAtMyAge · 17/10/2016 18:01

I think I'll keep it on. Never had a washing machine that I can use as an alarm clock as well before Grin

deepdarkwood · 18/10/2016 12:33

Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?
I think the biggest improvement in terms of ease is how dry clothes come out of the machine - which cuts down my drying time (I don't have a dryer so this is really important to me. I have used also the wool cycle, quick wash and the steam cycle to clean things I would normally hand wash - which certainly saves time for me!

What has been your favourite feature overall?
Hard to choose! I love the 20 minute cycle - great for midweek "I need this NOW' emergencies. I also really like the facility to measure your wash which I'm sure is making my washing more efficient. I like the idea of the outdoor wash & have used it, but tbh remain a little in the dark about how that cycle might actually be working! The quietness is also really impressive - although because of our washing machine's location this impacts little on a day to day basis.

How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?
Massive improvement - especially in terms of its flexiblity and spin cycle.

A massive thank you to AEG & MN for the chance to try this machine out.

teainbed · 18/10/2016 13:25
  • Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?

Absolutely! I have gone from doing washing constantly to only doing a couple of loads once or twice a week.

  • What has been your favourite feature overall?

The 20 minute cycle for sure for an emergency wash of school stuff or gym kit usually!

  • How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?

It is miles better. On all fronts, quality, efficiency, economy, environmental impact, capacity, quietness everything really.

flossyfloo · 18/10/2016 13:30
  • Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?
Mostly yes. Due to the large capacity, I am spending less time on laundry and doing less loads. Also, due to how well the spin cycle works, the clothes are coming out so dry that they take less time to dry. The downside for me, as I've mentioned before is how long the 9kg cotton cycle takes which has meant that I've needed to adjust my own washing schedule during the week to account for this.
  • What has been your favourite feature overall?
I have really liked being able to weigh the clothes as you add them to the machine. There are times when I wouldn't have put so much in the machine as I thought it was full but being able to see how much room I have left means I am fitting more in at one time, reducing how many loads I need to do. I have also found the 20min/3kg load to be useful for those middle of the week emergencies when I find I've run out of school uniform or the Cubs jumpers haven't been washed from the week before.
  • How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?
My previous washing machine claimed to have a large capacity (8kg) but in reality it couldn't cope with that much and would quite often 'error' halfway through. Knowing that this AEG machine is able to handle a family of 5's washing definitely makes this washing machine a winner in my eyes.
happywasher · 18/10/2016 13:38
  • Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?

Yes, I love the large capacity and can fit two old size loads in at once, and now I've discovered the 'time saver' button it doesn't take hours and hours either.

  • What has been your favourite feature overall?

My favourite feature is probably the 20 minute wash cycle as there is always a football kit/pe kit that needs a quick wash on a mid-week evening.

  • How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?

It's much better than my old hotpoint. Much quieter, much bigger capacity. I love that you can weigh the load so you know it's not overloaded. It spins the clothes much drier despite having a lower spin speed. And it's much much more energy efficient so hopefully will bring the electricity bill down.

Thanks very much AEG and Mumsnet.

ReallyShouldKnowBetterAtMyAge · 18/10/2016 17:34
  • Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?

So much easier, the size of the drum means I'm doing a lot more in 1 go as well as all the bedding being done in 1 wash. Also, as the machine weighs the wash I don't feel guilty doing really small loads as it's not wasting the water.

  • What has been your favourite feature overall?

The 20 minute cycle, it's saved a lot of last minute dramas over dirty PE kits and dirty "need to wear this afternoon" jeans.

  • How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?

My previous machine would rattle around and make lots of noise. This machine is near silent

poorbuthappy · 18/10/2016 18:13
  • Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?

Agree with everyone about the large drum and just the logic of the thing!

  • What has been your favourite feature overall?
Not sure I could chose 1, the 20min wash is fab, the door opening straight away, the fact my clothes are taking less time in the dryer...the list goes on
  • How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?
We had a LG direct drive which I thought was great and quiet and large and good....but considering the prices aren't a million miles away from each other I would chose the AEG machine every single time.
CMOTDibbler · 18/10/2016 19:17
  • Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?
Yes - the large capacity and display of how much laundry is in there means it is loaded properly each time with the max amount - and is properly washed. Less loads, less hassle.
  • What has been your favourite feature overall?
I have to say that the steam refresh is the one thing I have got properly excited about - didn't think I would find it useful, but its been fabulous
  • How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?
Much better. I had a Miele before and the clothes are cleaner, the AEG is sooooo much quieter, clothes are drier when they come out, and I feel like I have much more control over the cycles.
Bouncearound · 18/10/2016 20:17

I don't know if I'm missing something here! I'm testing this washing machine and loving it so far but a few posters have mentioned being able to weigh washing- I've read the instructions more than once and can't work this out! Can anyone shed any light? Blush

CMOTDibbler · 18/10/2016 20:25

You turn it on before loading, select your programme, then in the right hand part of the display it tells you the max weight for that cycle, and the weight of the load will go up as you load it. It also tells you what % of detergent you need

Bouncearound · 18/10/2016 20:49

Thank you. My machine doesn't appear to have this setting though. I turned it on, selected the programme and nothing appeared on the right hand side. Maybe I have a slightly different model...

teainbed · 18/10/2016 20:52

I found if I selected a different program and then turned it back to the one I wanted the weighing function reappears.

Bouncearound · 18/10/2016 21:16

I tried that too but still nothing. It doesn't say anything about it in my manual either- strange!

SocksRock · 18/10/2016 21:24

Mine doesn't appear to weigh either..
I must go and check properly

SocksRock · 18/10/2016 21:26

And I've checked the model number, I don't have the model number listed above - mine is L87405FL

SocksRock · 18/10/2016 21:26

Which is disappointing. That would have been cool

Bouncearound · 19/10/2016 07:25

That's the same as mine Socks. That would have been a great feature!

flossyfloo · 19/10/2016 07:51

Oh no, I wonder if you've both been sent the wrong machine by accident?

BlackbirdSingsInTheDeadOfNight · 19/10/2016 15:43

Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?
Yes, so much easier. The larger drum means that I can get far more washing done in one go and therefore my permanent washing mountain clears much more quickly. Our previous machine had an 8kg drum, or so it claimed - but there's stacks more space in this one. The 20 min wash is a brilliant idea - so far I've used it for DS2's sports kit, which ponged after a week in a damp sports bag (lovely!) but didn't look actually dirty. Next time the sports kit pongs I will try the steam function, which I haven't had the chance to test yet but which is another brilliant idea for a feature.

What has been your favourite feature overall?
Probably the 20 minute cycle, just for pure convenience, though I think the steam feature will be another favourite once I start using it regularly. The delicates wash is another good one, because it seems more sensitive to delicate fabrics than any previous machine that I've owned. Oh and the weighing feature and the how-much-detergent-feature too (sorry, I'm far too excited about this washing machine to pick just one!). Grin

How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?
It has made me actually enjoy doing the washing, which is a world away from every other machine that I've ever owned! We tend to buy in the £200-£250 price bracket, and I had assumed that it wasn't worth paying more than that, but I can totally see now that when possible it's well worth forking out more money because this machine is vastly more efficient in terms of clean washing and reduced drying time. I didn't think there was anything in particular wrong with my last machine, but had assumed that all washing machines regularly left marks on clothes (especially greasy marks). I am now a diehard AEG convert! Grin

Huge thanks again to Mumsnet and AEG for choosing me to be part of this product test.

Hi all,

Thanks for all of the comments so far, we're pleased to see you are all getting on so well with the L89499FL.

Just to clarify the confusion around the model type - four testers were informed that they would be receiving a different model, and there's no need for those testers to post feedback on this thread.

Bouncearound, you should have received an email from us containing link to leave a review on your model.

This feedback thread is only for those who received the L89499FL model.

Hope that clears things up - happy washing! Smile

Has the machine made doing laundry easier for you? If so, why?
Yes
-clothes out much drier than old machine
-20 min wash very convenient

What has been your favourite feature overall?
quietness of the machine. i cannot even tell when the machine's running!
How does this washing machine compare to your previous product?
much better. I super like the quietness and 20 min function and am so glad that i get to try this machine out.

Starlightnight · 21/10/2016 17:34

Yes laundry has been made much easier, the biggest difference is that I can now trust DH and the DCs to help because they cannot get it wrong.
This has made huge difference to me as a full time working mum. The programming of the machine is very simple and clear for both me and the other family members. A machine that can be used by others and not destroy clothes is like a dream come true for me and the first time I have fully trusted them with the washing.
My favourite feature is the weighing function and detergent guide. The machine cannot be overloaded, even by DH, and then the correct amount of detergent means that we use less product and there are no powder marks on the clothes anymore which I really appreciate.
This washing machine is far superior to my previous machine. The clothes come out so much cleaner, dry faster and are easier to iron. There is a far wider selection of programmes that I can now do a proper sport clothes wash or a a quick 20 minute freshen wash in addition to standard cotton washes, the variety of programmes covers all requirements.

The two big plus points for me have been the far cleaner clothes and the fact that DH can use the machine and my clothes still come out like new.

Thank you MN and LEG I will never go back to a basic machine again.
