Tampon user who struggles with disposal of tampons? Sign up to try FabLittleBag – two chances to win £100! NOW CLOSED

We have been asked by the team at FabLittleBag, to find 500 UK female MNers (including 150-200 of their teenage daughters) to put their – well – fab little bags to the test when disposing of tampons out and about and at home and to share their feedback on MN.

We are looking for 150-200 of the testers to have a teen daughter (or daughter at home) to also try the bags and report back via their mum. You can apply to try them yourself, for your daughter or for both of you. All testers need to be regular tampon wearers, and ideally folks who struggle with the disposal of tampons: - perhaps you’re fed up of not finding a suitable bin when out and about, are fed up with having to use loo roll and nappy sacks or even always flush but would like to bin them instead?

The team at FabLittleBag say – "our new bags use clever finger loops to make tampon disposal easy, discreet and hygienic. The biodegradable bags are opaque and seal closed. They provide confident disposal every time, anywhere. We believe they are the best solution to tampon disposal. Period.
They come in a handbag pack of 5 perfect for ensuring confident disposal when out and about, and a bathroom pack of 20 to keep at home next to your tampons. You top up your handbag pack from your bathroom pack as needs be".

FabLittleBag's are available now at Waitrose, Ocado and //www.fablittlebag.com – plus they will be available at Wholefoods from March. Bathroom Packs of 20 bags £2.99 and the re-fillable HandBag Pack £1.99 includes 5 bags for on the go use.

If selected testers will be sent both a Bathroom Pack and a HandBag Pack to get the full FabLittleBag experience – worth £4.98, and asked to try them during their next monthly period.

We'd then want testers to share feedback on a thread on Mumsnet about the concept, the ease of use and overall thoughts. You will also be asked to complete a survey about your views on the bags. If your daughter also takes part, they will need to complete a separate survey (or you can for them).

NB we're expecting this project to last a few weeks – we're looking for feedback to be all in around mid-April - note - this is a tampon disposal testing trial - so please only apply if you will be using tampons some days during the testing time frame and able to share the feedback.

Selected testers who add feedback as required will be entered into a prize draw where two winners will each win a £100 John Lewis voucher.

If you’d like to take part, please add your details here and we will be in touch with those selected soon.

Thanks and good luck

Great concept but are they worth the money. Could they actually be sold with tampons somehow, to make them cheaper?
I applaud anyone who is trying to change our habits to save our environment though, well done!

Don't they block the loo Love?

Report
NurseRosie · 03/03/2016 09:17

When you flush they expand, if they don't block your drains, they can cause sewer blockages which is never good during possible flood warnings.
Also once flushed, if they make it too the treatment centre they have to be separated. They end up in landfill anyway but surely the process must cost more time and money.

You should never ever flush them! Let's promote the use of cups like Mooncup etc. Better for your health, the environment and your pocket. They cost about £20 and then last for years.

I've recently started using washable pads. WAY more comfortable than disposables, which I find plasticky and sweaty. They shift in knickers slightly, but a tiny safety pin sorts that. And hey presto I never pay for sanpro again and I'm chucking less stuff in the bin. Just thought now was a good time to mention. Got mine off Amazon.

Wow, that's way too expensive. You could buy a moon cup for the cost of a few packets.

I'm surprised these are a thing. Confused

Thanks to everyone who has signed up so far...Smile

We asked the lovely Martha at FabLittleBag about the price and she says "our thoughtfully designed bags are eco-friendly and discreet, something which brings great convenience and confidence when you need to dispose of a tampon but facilities aren't available, or you simply want a nicer experience. To be honest, they are not really comparable to the thin (often) not eco- friendly nappy sacks - but we’d love to hear what you think about them once you've tried them! For those of you for whom Eco- friendliness is important, as well and being biodegrade, they are also 35% made from organic material, in this case sugar cane waste, all of which adds to the cost of manufacture but crucially to the value too. And to all flushers, come join the binning revolution!!”

@poorbuthappy

Why only tampons? Why not towels?

yes - they can be used for towels too as long as you roll up and cover the adhesive strip

I always just wrap in a couple of sheets of loo roll and pop in the bin or sanitary waste disposal.

How long do these take to bio-degrade?

Only discovered on this thread you're not meant to flush tampons... We were always taught you could at school.

Please sign me up; happy to try :)

I only found out a couple of weeks ago you're not supposed to flush them, I often stay at friends houses and struggle with where I am supposed to dispose. Would love to give these a go!

Why on earth would you wrap a tampon with a non biodegradable nappy bag. Wtf is that about.

I really hope we will look back at this era of making endless waste in horror.

I read the title as "trouble with disposable tampons" ShockShockShock

I too think they seem remarkably expensive for what they are. But then I wrap in lots of loo roll, as it always seems to seep through with the worst ones, and usually end up carrying them through to the main kitchen bin, so needs to be well-covered. So I'd be happy to try these to see if the experience is any better. I'd have to find them noticeably better to justify that sort of cost though.

I use (when not pregnant!) 100% biodegradable nappy bags which are around £2.29 for 50. They are an opaque green colour, and are perfectly fine for the job. I wouldn't pay £1.99 for 5 or £2.99 for 20 as that would cost way too much.

Seems a good idea, but maybe a bit expensive .

well I filled in the form, but they'd better get on with selecting/sending them very soon, or I'll miss the chance and have to wait til April.

Since when has throwing a tampon wrapped in loo roll been a problem? Has someone thought of yet another way to shame women about periods? As if making towels stink of some "perfume" wasn't enough…….

Not currently a tampon user, but agree that these are too expensive. Nappy sacks are a bit big though, so perhaps a middle ground could be found.
