This thread is for the 30 Mumsnetters who are currently participating in the LEGO® reward activity.

Here’s what LEGO® have to say: “Here at LEGO®, we’re interested to see what occasions you would consider rewarding or treating your kids with LEGO®? A great school report. Holiday treats. Good behaviour on a trip to the dentist. Helping in the garden. Tidying their room. Mum's little star. There is a great LEGO® gift idea starting from £2.49 that is fun, creative and made for every occasion. With so many sets to choose from, we think LEGO® is a fantastic gift for every occasion and we’d like you to tell us about it!”

Non-Testers: LEGO® would love to know what occasions you usually reward your children for. Everyone who adds a comment will be entered into a prize draw where 10 Mumsnetters will receive a LEGO® set of your choice worth £50.

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback three times - we'd like your first impressions now and at the end of each week of the testing period, we’d like to know when you rewarded your DCs with a LEGO® set, if at all.

So for your first impressions, we’d like to know:

  • Which LEGO® sets did you receive?
  • Which of your DCs would you be rewarding, if a reward/treat situation arises during the testing period?
  • Over the testing period, are there any particular occasions (other than Birthdays, of course!) which you think might be a suitable time to reward your DCs with LEGO®?

Every tester who posts their feedback will be entered into a prize draw, where one winner will receive a £300 Love2Shop voucher.

Thanks and good luck!

Non Tester here.

My DS3 adores Lego and most trading in our house revolves around it! He gets pocket money for good behaviour, keeping his room tidy, doing homework, not fighting with his his brothers etc! He saves the money and gets to choose new Lego sets for himself. If he does well in exams, Martial Arts etc, then he gets a bonus, to bost his Lego fund!

non tester - I reward my son for doing well in school and when he comes home with a golden award for doing especially well in learning his times tables for example. He will also be rewarded by behaving well and having good manners.

peaf · 19/05/2015 11:00

We go to the fish shop and get a new coral for his tank!

Lreece · 19/05/2015 11:01

I reward my son for trying his best and being grown up. He struggles with school work and it would be easier for him to give up however with lots of hard work & determination he has proved many people wrong and earned himself lots of rewards. I have also just had a new baby so he has been asked to act more grown up & tidy up behind himself and become a little more independent. The treats he receives aren't always big or expensive, even just picking a film & getting to spend an extra hours quality time is the best reward

rewards from tooth fairy, if they have something major like a hospital visit, and for good behaviour.

beb73 · 19/05/2015 11:02

Non Tester here. I usually reward my son for things like having a good week in school where he has done something like won star of the week, I reward him for cleaning his room or for helping out. Rewards can be anything from some chocolate to a DVD or toys. I think it's important to reward good behaviour but not to do too much otherwise he will think that he get's something every time!

ktmd · 19/05/2015 11:32

Non tester- I reward my kids when they go above and beyond expectations eg. wonderful manners, exceptionally kind, very hard working

alabaster002 · 19/05/2015 11:38

When they have gone beyond their comfort zone - first swim, bike ride, speaking in public etc.

vixxx666 · 19/05/2015 11:43

Non-tester - My 5 year old gets Lego rewards for good behaviour at school and at home.

i try and reward, in some way, every positive behaviour i see. Even if its just praise and verbal encouragement. But if its something more out of the ordinary then a small treat is well deserved.

rachheap2014 · 19/05/2015 11:53

I reward my children when they have been faced in a situation, like my oldest son does not like swimming he gets anxious over it but i have encouraged him and explained the bigger picture and have rewarded him for his good behavior as he tends to get silly when he does not want to do something. the reward could be a takeaway, magazine, bag of sweets or being able to stay up later

Lego works for us every time. Both children will do anything for lego. I reward my older child for good performance at school and the younger one for good behaviour

There's exams going on at the moment (they're only 5 and 8!) so some extra lego would be great to give out upon completion!

I reward my two DS12 and DD10 for being exceptionally helpful with chores around the house or helping with the gardening. A good report gets a reward too. They usually get a treat like choosing a movie that they want to watch at the cinema or a treat from the ice cream van after school.

Lego is always on Christmas lists and birthday present requests!

jenniwren12 · 19/05/2015 12:41

we reward the children for consistently good behaviour and keeping their brand newly decorated rooms tidy

happysouls · 19/05/2015 12:46

I would have rewarded my son for consistent good behaviour, but also for those occasions where he would suprise me by doing something exceptionally nice out of the blue and making me proud! Sometimes little things like holding doors open for people, or being really polite to the horrible grumpy woman in the local shop!

Doodygirl2009 · 19/05/2015 13:16

I reward my children when they have had a few days of good behaviour also for helping and cleaning their toys away. I give them a little treat as a reward

BellaWella86 · 19/05/2015 13:41

I reward my daughter for milestones (like practising and getting her sums right, first day of school etc). The bigger the milestone, the bigger the reward. But of course, hugs and kisses are given out on demand throughout the day! ;-)

melonpanini · 19/05/2015 14:28

We reward our daughter for doing well at school.

lhlee62 · 19/05/2015 14:39

Non tester, I usually reward my children when they have been very well behaved at school/nursery or if they do something nice for one another without having to be told. I also reward them as they are very good at going to bed and eating their meals, they are generally well behaved children

kel1981 · 19/05/2015 15:39

they get rewards for good behaviour, helping around the home and any achievements - big or small

lexiemac13 · 19/05/2015 16:22

I'm a non tester.

I reward my children when they receive awards at school for special achievements - 'Headteacher's Award', 'Reader of the Week' etc. Earlier this year I surprised my daughter with the Disney Princess LEGO Elsa Frozen Castle when she received the 'Reader of the Week' award as she has the majority of the rest of the Disney Princess LEGO collection to match already!
