This thread is for the 30 MNers trying out the Mobile by Sainsbury's service.

Below are the questions we'd like testers to answer but please feel free to add your own comments too.

  • How easy was the setup process?
  • How do you find the signal coverage? Is it reliable? Have you had any issues with this?
  • How has your family been using the service? i.e. is it you or your DC/DP who has the handset? How useful have you/they found the Mobile by Sainsbury's service?
  • Which services have you/ your DC/DP used most – calls, texts or data?
  • How have you/your DC/DP found the Y330? Did it impress you, given its budget price?
  • If it came up in conversation, would you recommend this network to your friends or not?
  • Would you recommend the Y330 as a first smartphone, or not?

Everyone who was part of the test and who adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £200 Sainsbury's giftcard as a thank you.

Thanks,

MNHQ

Little more feedback now DD1 been using it for a while, she LOVES it still got lots of credit on her data plan, she's discovered instagram and we have allowed her an account with strict rules (but upon checking it they all seem to post endless photos of pugs and kittens!) she's loving having independence to ring grandparents when she would like to speak to them and I love the texts I get on Saturdays which is basically an hour by hour account of her day (I work and they are home with DH). 2 of her friends parents have actually contacted me about the phone and purchased it for their daughters for Christmas x

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/12/2014 21:13

Okay. It is working. I don't think I got any money in it with the replacement phone but dd1 has got it set up and dd2 has managed to put £10 PAYG into it.

I'm not finding it at all easy to use tbh. The 'instruction' book is useless and I just can't work the touchscreen. I assume this gets easier? I have now been trained on how to make a call and send a text by my dds, although not being able to use the touchscreen is making texting very frustrating currently.

I feel like an idiot tbh. Will try again tomorrow. Am not well today and maybe trying it when feeling fragile was a bad idea!

Just noticed that somebody below said that it needs an information booklet explaining what the phone does, different features etc. I absolutely agree. I've never used a smartphone before and am completely baffled.

Ok! onto my second bundle now. There are still many things that confuse me....how much data am I using when I go online out and about? Can ai find out. For the first time I seemed to be in a black spot yesterday and could not text to find out the bus times....that was a surprise as it was on a busy high road. I am still such an idiot when it comes to smart phones, no idea what I am doing....but I seem to be able to send the odd email text, look up things online etc. It has been fine. battery goes down quickly, but I guess they all do. It charges quickly too.

telsa · 29/12/2014 10:03

remus, it is quite easy to find the 70 odd page manual online to get the full info.

eandh · 29/12/2014 19:32

am I being thick but dd1 using phone and says her credit run out but she barely made any calls and only about 50 texts so does it have to be topped up every month (she had used all mobile data) I assumed the calls/text would continue like normal payg? ( I may have misread the original letter that came with phone and it's filed away in a safe place that is so safe I can't find it)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 29/12/2014 19:34

Thanks, Telsa.

I now know how to send and receive texts and calls and go on Twitter using the Wi-fi. I'm finding the touchscreen a little bit easier to use now. Doubt I'll use it for much else th, so think I'll just keep using PAYG rather than getting a bundle.

I'm starting to really like it now.

tiredoutgran · 30/12/2014 13:31

eandh, the bundle lasts for 30 days so if you don't top up then the credit will be gone. One thing I did learn, and had to be helped by those lovely people at Sainsbury's, you need to top up before buying the bundle. I topped up using the bundle link online and then later got a message advising my calls were chargeable. When I rang they said there was a glitch in the system and to top up first and then buy the bundle with the credit you had put on the phone, hope that makes sense!

eandh · 04/01/2015 17:49

right I see she'll have to wait till payday now ha ha! Thank you x

telsa · 04/01/2015 21:53

Yes, I found buying the bundle complicated. Didn't quite know how to convert credit to a bundle but got there in the end. Does anyone know how we can work out how much MBs on data we have used to pace it well over the month. Is there an app? Or can we check online?

eandh · 25/01/2015 19:58

Dd1 phone frozen 4 times this week and you have to remove battery to reset anyone else had this?

AngelieMumsnet · 19/03/2015 12:28

Thanks for your feedback, and sorry for the delay - the prize winner is tiredoutgran :)
