AngelieMumsnet · 12/11/2014 14:44

This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Miele G6410SC Dishwasher.

Here's what Miele say, "The G6410SC freestanding dishwasher will provide you with the opportunity to run a more economical wash cycle whenever you need to clean your dishes and glassware. With a high energy efficiency rating of A+++, you can reduce the amount you need to spend on running an appliance within your home."

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a week we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Miele would love to know:

  • How did you find initially setting up the diswasher?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Miele on their website and other marketing materials.
Thanks,
MNHQ

Does anyone else find the cutlery tray a pain? I've got the basket out of my old machine as it's a right faff placing each individual item in. I'm struggling generally to find a stacking plan that works in the bottom basket Angry

I find the cutlery tray is a pain to load too. I also find it less useful for odd cutlery or utensils like scissors. OTOH, it's quite good for small things that used to flip over.

With the lower basket, although there are plate racks on both sides, my dinner plates won't fit side by side and they aren't particularly big.

I have folded the front racks down but that's not helping much Sad

I've submitted my video clips. It was excruciating - I am really not great in front of a camera! Poor DH had to re-record about seven billion times...

Anyone else done theirs yet?

Due to the awful layout of my kitchen and lack of drawers the cutlery tray isn't ideal for us.
The cutlery drawer is 90° from the dishwasher.
I have to get some of the clean cutlery out, put it in the drawer, close the drawer, get some more clean out, shut the cutlery tray on the dishwasher, open drawer to put cutlery away...
With the cutlery basket I used to take the whole thing out and put everything away. So, on one hand there's more space in the bottom where there would usually be a basket but on the other hand it's a bit long winded putting the cutlery away. First world problem.

Oh. X posted. I've done 2 of my 3. I got dh to do the long loading/unloading video! I've still got to do the marking out of 10 bit but that won't take too long hopefully.

I have your "problem drawer" too, but mine stores utensils rather than cutlery so it isn't really an issue.

Didn't someone say earlier about the bottom basket needing "brakes"? I nearly pulled a full basket of crockery onto the tiled kitchen floor yesterday.

Its DS's job to empty the dishwasher and he likes the cutlery tray because "all you sods can separate out the cutlery when you put it in so I don't have to when I empty it".

I think we have found the optimum stacking now and the only problem I have now is that so much fits into this machine we have nothing left in the cupboards Grin so more shopping needed.

Why have my photos come out so small? any way my point is that all that stuff even packed as higgledy piggledy as that and washed on eco with ecover tabs still came out sparkly.

CMP I wasn't asked but on the application I did say that I can do photos so I assumed that I should. I am sort of expecting another thread on this feedback as I'm expecting to be asked more questions.

I'm a little confused as the OP says that there would be more questions in a week from when the OP was made, which should have been 19th November or so...

  • How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?
  • Is there anything in particular about the Miele dishwasher which impressed you?
  • Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?

I'm very pleased with it and it compares favourably to my old Bosche which was a Which? Best Buy when it came out. However like others I still haven't got used to stacking it very efficiently but I'm a naturally messy person. Things come out very clean and sparkly and it seems to go through less rinse aid and salt than other dishwashers I've used. I prefer to rinse stuff before loading as it isn't a bin but if things are a bit mucky (say you have a dinner party and can't be bothered to rinse at 2am) at least you can pop it on and know the stuff will come out clean (even when the food is old and bit crusty).

Is there anything in particular about the Miele dishwasher which impressed you?

I love the moving parts especially the height adjustments - it's good for wine glasses and the cafetiere which i used to do by hand and they don't ever seem to get knocked over. I've even popped the crystal in there.

Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend it to family and friends - I love that it uses less energy and the moving parts make it good for awkward shapes. Although technically the same internal size as my old dishwasher I feel that could get more plates stacked in there but it's minor we are a family of four and for everyday use it's perfect.

I will attempt to post a video a bit later.

How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?
I've been really pleased with the cleaning performance of the dishwasher, the build quality is very good. I've previously had Bosch and Indesit dishwashers and the Miele has performed well compared to them. Our Indesit only lasted just over 12 months which was disappointing. I did find the 3d cutlery tray does take longer to load than a basket used to but all of the cutlery gets washed well and it frees up space in the bottom for more plates, etc. The removable rack on the bottom drawer and all the moveable parts means the dishwasher is really versatile and can take many combinations of pots, pans, plates and glasses.

The dishwasher managed to clean Pyrex dishes, roasting pans and fajita pans without soaking or excessive scraping using just the normal 55° wash. My previous dishwasher really used to struggle and pots and pans would frequently have to be rewashed after they'd been through the dishwasher.
The salt in the door feature was really clever.

Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would definitely recommend the Miele dishwasher, we found the cleaning results even using a normal wash to be excellent, because of the cutlery tray there was extra space below for more plates which is handy for a larger family.

How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?
I've never had a dishwasher before so it seems perfectly lovely to me, but I don't have anything to compare it too. The cutlery tray seems like a bit of a novelty though and I'm sure chucking every thing in the basket would be quicker. That said I like that there is so much space. There are only 3 if us in the house and I don't host dinner parties so I think I'd run out of things before it was full. Maybe it's good that I'm terrible at loading it!

I like how adjustable everything is so even my big pans and trays fit. Although I did find I couldnt fit the big trays and tall glasses at the same time. Unless I put the glasses in bottom maybe?

Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend it but think it is out of price range for my friends and family. :)

How have you found the Miele Dishwasher over all?
We love it - it is easy to use, it has a great capacity and its quiet.
Probably the greatest bonuses for my DH is that it is economical and eco friendly.
The greatest bonus for me is that it just works sweetly - I find it simple to stack, simple to adjust, every part of it slides perfectly and it functions well. Someone has really thought about build quality and usability and it shows in the small details. The cutlery drawer seems to be a sticking point for some pp but in my experience baskets always develop holes in the bottom resulting in knives sliding through and interfering with the washer blades, in our last Kenwood dishwasher we had to replace the basket three times in three years and come up with ingenious methods for preventing the damage.
DS3 loves the cutlery tray as it is his job to empty the dishwasher and he now makes us sort the cutlery as we put it in to wash, saving him time. He has muttered darkly about the lower drawer needing some brakes as he is a little heavy handed when pulling it out and it has nearly ended up on the floor a few times.
We are a very eco minded family and only ever use the dishwasher on super eco wash with ecover tablets and it has performed extremely well. We also have solar panels and it is a lovely feature of the dishwasher that we can set the time that we would like to to start to maximise the use of the solar energy. We set all the household items off in sequence throughout the day and this lowers our energy bills.

Is there anything in particular about the Miele dishwasher that has impressed you?
Silence! reports DH. I simply love the build quality and ergonomics.

Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If not, why not?
My Aunt and my brother already have one and have frequently recommended Miele to me. They have reported that they fully expect their dishwashers to last at up to 25 years which actually makes it a very good investment in the long run. I have already been recommending it to friends and colleagues and will continue to do so.

How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?
It's been rather disappointing overall. I have had it for 11 days and I think we have only had one load that was completely clean. Some of this will be issues with loading it as it is a very different layout to my previous machine. Also the large white box on the hose means that the machine will not go back far enough against the wall and so sticks out about 5cm from the kitchen work surface.
Is there anything in particular about the Miele dishwasher which impressed you?
I do like the different programmes and how adaptable the baskets are, but this will take some time to find the configuration that suits us as a family
Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
So far I wouldn't as I don't think it cleans as well as my 16 year old Hotpoint did, but it is early days. Also I don't know anyone who would spend almost £1000 on any white good.

- How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?

I am chuffed to bits with it. I find everything comes out much cleaner than with my old dishwasher (which was a Hotpoint and about 5 years old). It looks great in our kitchen - I love the fact that it is such a simple design and the display is really easy to use.

- Is there anything in particular about the Miele dishwasher which impressed you?

It is SO quiet - this is great as my previous dishwasher was pretty noisy. I love love love the cutlery tray - it frees up loads of space in the rest of the dishwasher and means I have to put it on far less frequently than my old one as there is so much more room. Also, I find it easier to empty the cutlery tray than the old cutlery basket as if you stack all the knives together, forks together etc you can just grab them up and plonk them away in the drawer. I also love the adjustable height of the baskets - makes it fantastic for enormous roasting pans. Oh, and putting the salt in the door is so much easier than fiddling around in the bottom of the machine.

- Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely recommend it. Although it is expensive it has a long guarantee and I believe Miele products tend to last longer than other brands so it would be an investment. It really does feel like a quality bit of kit as compared to my old dishwasher.

How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?

Overall I am a little disappointed as there are a few niggles for me.

Is there anything in particular about the Miele dishwasher which impressed you?

The features I like are

  • being able to set a specific time to start/finish the dishwasher rather than working out what delay you need to start/finish it at X time.
  • The salt refill being in the door rather than at the bottom of the machine

Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Hmmm... I don't know. It is £1000 worth of dishwasher and I am not convinced it is worth it. I will happily concede that, over time, this initial outlay might be recouped in lower energy costs and greater reliability and longevity but on the basis of this trial alone, I'm not sure. I wouldn't not recommend it though and, over all, I think would probably recommend it with the caveats about not being sure it's worth £1000.

  • I have niggles about the amount of give in the middle basket - it seems very flimsy on the runners with a lot of side-to-side movement and this does worry me slightly about whether it might fall out when fully loaded.
  • It is very easy to pull the bottom basket all the way out and potentially drop an entire load of crockery onto a hard kitchen floor. There seems to be very little to stop the basket at the end of the door.
  • The bottom basket has a tendency to roll back into the machine, particularly when part-loaded at the back. On my machine, the door does not seem to open completely flat, as if a spring is too tight. if I push on one corner with my foot, it opens a little more fully and seems to cure the roll-back. This may ease with time I guess.
  • I have a love/hate relationship with the cutlery tray. I have had forks come out with food still between the prongs and I wonder if this is because water doesn't get to certain places if crockery in the basket underneath is in the way.
  • I'm not sure how you could fit 14 place setting in it as my dinner plates, although not over large, do not fit side by side.

Plusses!
  • I do think it does a good job overall, even using a basic dishwasher tablet from Waitrose rather than a premium brand. It certainly does a better job than my Neff.
  • The range of programmes is great, with the option of "energy save" and "short programme" making it even more versatile.
  • I love the timer
  • I love being able to programme the water hardness according to my specific water rather than using a guesstimate along a hard-to-soft range.
  • it is lovely and quiet and doesn't appear to disturb the dog at 2am!
  • the versatility of the baskets is brilliant, although this has complicated my attempts to stream line the loading of it!
  • the cardboard packing box kept my three children (aged nearly 9 - 16!) entertained for weeks. Sadly it will be going in the recycling this week as I am fed up with it :)
