AngelieMumsnet · 12/11/2014 14:44

This thread is for the 10 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Miele G6410SC Dishwasher.

Here's what Miele say, "The G6410SC freestanding dishwasher will provide you with the opportunity to run a more economical wash cycle whenever you need to clean your dishes and glassware. With a high energy efficiency rating of A+++, you can reduce the amount you need to spend on running an appliance within your home."

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a week we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Miele would love to know:

  • How did you find initially setting up the diswasher?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Miele on their website and other marketing materials.
Thanks,

Hi, just wondering if any of the video reviewers received their voucher from Miele for dishwashing products?
I'm not greedy and I'm really pleased I've been able to keep the dishwasher, I was just wondering if anyone actually got their voucher?

The dishwasher was on every day over a large proportion of the holiday, and I'm really impressed with it's cleaning and near silent noise level. I have mostly been using the sensor cycle, and find that it is the best one for getting everything clean. The best thing is definitely the door popping open at the end, so that after going out for the day or in the morning after putting it on at bedtime, everything is virtually dry and ready to unload. A godsend!

I can say after staying with my in-laws at Xmas that I love this dishwasher even more and am a convert. In the past I always thought their one was better than ours but it's horrible - I hated the cutlery basket and the lack of moving parts irritated me.

One further small piece of feedback - I cleaned the filter today and thought the design of it was very good. Much easier than the little cage thingies I've always had before as this one hinges open at the bottom.

The plastic bits on my cutlery tray have turned orangey too, noticed today. I know It doesn't reduce how well the dishwasher functions but it doesn't look very nice.

Should we ever get bright sunlight again, put the discoloured items out in it and they'll turn white again.

My chopping board often turns orange and I make my own tomato based sauces so it's not that they're the ready made ones :)

I never rince anything but we don't use jars and don't eat a huge amount of tomato based sauces. Maybe once or twice a week

Report
Norfolkbumpkin · 11/12/2014 22:12

So maybe I need to cut down on using lazy-arse jars of processed tomato sauces Smile and pre-rinsing stuff before putting in.

I haven't noticed anything changing colour bur then don't use tomatoey sauces much as ds1 is a fussy so and so doesn't like them

I don't think mine has changed colour Norfolk

Nope, but I've gone back to rinsing before I load it - I just can't stop myself otherwise I obsess about where all that old food goes. Goodness knows why I'm so squeamish about it, our house is pretty skanky and there are probably more disgusting things to worry about.

One thing I noticed last night, nearly all of the white plastic fittings inside the machine (clips on baskets, cover for salt dispenser, handle for filter unit) have discoloured to a orangey shade, due to washing plates etc with tomato based sauces on them. Anyone else had this? My previous machine had grey fittings, so I guess I didn't notice the discolouration as much.

Having finally read the instructions I programmed the machine for our water hardness - very soft in this area - I thought that this would mean that it would stop demanding that I put salt in. But no, it just carried on asking for salt so I went ahead and forked out the £1.60 and poured it in and also some rinse aid while I was about it Blush I can now see the huge advantage of having the flaps for this in the door. I have also noticed how much more shiny my crockery is since adding rinse aid, I can't believe I have never done this before.

In response to an earlier question about loading up the cutlery, I am rather anal about it and separate the knives from the forks/large spoons, and the teaspoons are kept together aswell Blush. My favourite thing is the door popping open at the end of the cycle. I tend to put the machine on overnight, so it's handy to have the contents dry in the morning (and ready to put away), rather than sitting in the damp and needing a wipe with a tea towel. I did a 75 intensive wash last night for a load which included a rather burnt wok used for a stir fry, and was very impressed with state of it this morning.

OK its growing on me. Started using the 55° wash and the soak function on occasion and things are cleaner. Think we are getting better with the stacking too which obviously helps Smile

How did you find initially setting up the dishwasher?

The 2 Miele delivery men plumbed it in and set it all up for me which was fantastic, helped unblock a pipe and took the old one away!

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

I really like the simplicity of the buttons/display - got going with the display within 5 minutes although I do tend to use the same programme at the moment.

I've only used the eco programme so far and have used it on 'short' and 'energy save' as that's something which is important to me. I've had the machine 2 weeks and in that short time the cleaning has been brilliant - all my glasses have come out sparkling and it deals equally well with cast iron pans (not sure if they're supposed to go in or not). I haven't had a really full dishwasher load yet though so weirdly am looking forward to testing it over Christmas.

My top marks for:

  • quietness - my kitchen is open plan and I have to check that it's still on
  • love the flat cutlery drawer at the top - hated the basket on my old one which fell over all the time or else I stabbed myself on a knife
  • the removable plate rack in the bottom is great for when I want to wash large pans

I absolutely would recommend this Miele. I love the quality feel but for me best aspect is the quietness and eco programme.

I just haven't been able to fathom how to upload the videos and send them over, I'm getting messages about files being to big if I email them, and via 'we transfer' it's telling me it will take 6 hours to do. I'm just not techy minded enough to understand the problem, so if anyone else wants to take my place as a video reviewer, you're more than welcome. No 50 of detergent etc for me Sad

Anyhoo..........

How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?
I'm pretty impressed. It washes effectively at a much lower temperature than my previous make, I used to regularly run a 75 degree cycle to get the contents properly clean. I have been alternating between the 55 degree normal cycle and the eco one, both have been fine. It's well built and due to the fairly standard no-frills styling it looks and fits in fine with my Miele washing machine that sits next door. The front fascia etc looks like it will remain looking good after a few years hard use, and not turn a pale yellow/grotty colour. The inside fittings look well made and very robust. I'm still struggling to find the perfect stacking method, as the baskets etc are different to my previous machine. I guess it's just trial and error. I initially thought the machine was small inside than my previous one, but now I've had it for a while I think it's just how I stack it. Overall, it washes very well, economical and very, very quiet.

Is there anything in particular about the Miele dishwasher which impressed you?
How quiet it is. We have an all open plan layout on the ground floor of our house, so it's a big deal to have something that's quiet in operation (unlike our kettle!). I also absolutely love having the salt dispenser in the door. So much better than taking out the bottom basket and virtually climbing inside the machine to fill up with salt.

Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend it, yes. Now I'm getting used to stacking it so it fits as much as I can squeeze in it, I'm impressed with the build quality, the saving of energy/water whilst still getting stuff clean, and the fact that it is so quiet. I've been more than happy with my other Miele appliance over the years, and I expect the dishwasher to last just as well.

Can I add to my feedback please?

This could be purely due to my kitchen layout but I have turn around to get from the dishwasher to the cutlery drawer.
If I had a traditional 'cutlery basket' in my dishwasher I would take the basket to the drawer. But with the Miele I end up twisting back and forth with each type of cutlery. Not a major problem and like I say on part caused by my kitchen. Just a niggle really.

Oops, I missed this post. I've done my video. It came complete with some genuine "ooo"s and "aah"s from my friend who was round for lunch.

How have you found the Miele dishwasher overall?
I have generally been very impressed. It cleans well, it fits lots of stuff in and for one whole week nobody moaned about loading or unloading it! We've had a few stacking teething problems and are still trying to work out best fit - like others. It isn't perfect - but then what dishwasher would be -, there have been a couple of things that have needed a quick wipe afterwards, but I have been choosing short eco and I do try and cram as much into it as I possibly can.

Is there anything in particular about the Miele dishwasher which impressed you?
I like the fact that it can be configured differently to use the space in different ways. The racks you can raise and lower are a great idea. I like the cutlery drawer, I am one of those people who would like to use the 'basket' areas for specific utensils so it suits me down to the ground. If only the rest of my family would comply. I like the fact that it gives me an idea of water and electricity use and I am really impressed by the fact that, given we live in a hard water area, there is a way to make it adjust for that. Hopefully it will survive longer as a result.

Would you recommend the Miele dishwasher to your friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would for programming choices, space, ease of set up and flexibility. It is very expensive but if it lasts the years then it would be worth an investment. My mum always swears by Miele and I have to say that I can see she may well be right.

I also did that much quicker for unloading as you can remove the whole basket but sometimes old food used to catch in the bottom of the basket.
