This thread is for the MNers who've been trying out the TomTom GO 5000.

Below are some questions to get you started but please feel free to add other comments too.

In terms of your first impressions...

  • What was your initial impression of the TomTom GO 500?
  • How easy did you find it to set up your TomTom?
  • What journeys have you made so far with your TomTom?

Please also note that TomTom may use your anonymous feedback comments on their website and social media channels, as well as elsewhere.

Thanks,
MNHQ

102030 I'm glad you haven't been nibbling on it.

Grin

I've had it where it's said take the (say) 3rd exit, but it's not. Where it's said turn right, when there isn't a road & all kinds of things. Scarily though, it showing you to go around the roundabout the wrong way!!!!

Definitely no nibbling Wink but I'm a bit worried about the possibility of it telling you to go the wrong way around a roundabout. I have bought mine for my DD who has just passed her test. That's why I was so concerned about the inaccurate roundabout symbols. I have warned my DD to keep vigilant but in the meantime you might want to steer well clear of little green Polos in York Confused

I'm sure my TomTom (the 825 one) doesn't make those mistakes.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't allow a new driver to use it. I think it's FAR too inaccurate and that aside, too distracting for a new driver. I have been driving for over 20 years, I've used various sat nav s in hire cars and built in ones in a range rover and this is by far the most distracting & difficult to follow. I think a new driver needs to concentrate fully on the road, working out their route before they go & stopping to look at a map if necessary.

I think you might be right. She is cautious and sensible but satnavs can be distracting. Confused She is only driving set routes at the moment and is mostly accompanied. She is also going to do the 'pass plus' course. I'll have a chat with her and see what she thinks.

ChippingInLatteLover · 11/01/2015 17:38

Reading that back it sounds quite bossy and grumpy, it really wasn't, it was 'worried'. Not always easy to convey in a post, especially while also dealing with loud, distracting beasties, who...thank god...are not old enough to drive!

I think she might think it will help and won't be distracting, but I'm not sure a new driver is best placed to decide that really. I would be telling or strongly suggesting she doesn't use it, but if she must, then to use it so she can't see the screen but can only listen to the voice.

Don't worry Chipping. It didn't sound grumpy or bossy - it sounded like sensible advice Smile

Thanks for the PMs - v. helpful unlike my TomTom when I'm going around a roundabout

Anyone else notice the battery lasts only 30/40 minutes?
