As part of our partnership with B&Q, we're looking for 20 MNers who have an unloved room in their home that they'd like to revamp. Do you have a sad and tired spare room you'd like to make over? A living room in need of a spruce? Or a bedroom crying out for redecoration?

Here is what B&Q say about their unloved rooms initiative: "This summer, we're launching a new initiative to help Britain say goodbye to its unloved rooms. Most homes have one - a spare room that's more of a cupboard, a tired and broken bathroom from a different era, even an overgrown garden that's become a jungle. With our vast range of home decoration products and simple expert advice, we want more people to see that making a big difference doesn't need to be difficult or expensive. Whether it's picking the right look, choosing the right products, at the right price or simply finding out how to make it happen, we're making sure you'll find it all under one roof at B&Q."

If you're selected to take part you'll:

  • Be sent a £300 B&Q gift card to spend as you wish on materials to re-decorate/revamp your unloved room
  • Need to be available to complete your room revamp between 14 May and 3 June
  • Write feedback on how your revamp is going during that time on a thread on MN
  • Need to send in photos to MNHQ of before, during and after the revamp

10 of the 20 participants will also need to film their revamp process on their smartphone (via an app we'll need you to download). Those MNers will receive an additional £25 B&Q gift card as a thank you for doing filming.

B&Q would also like participants to attend a You Can Do It class in store if possible - this would be free of charge but they're only available in certain stores. This isn't essential to taking part but please indicate on the sign up form (link below) which store you could get to if you would like to attend.

If you'd like to take part, please sign up here.

Any queries, please post them here.

Thanks and good luck

Yes!!!Grin

I am now scared. This is going to be a logistical headache. It'll be nice to have the boys' roo sorted, though. It has been bugging me for years.

whiteandyellowiris · 14/05/2013 10:12

well done and good luck to all the chosen one

IHateSafeStyle · 14/05/2013 10:13

janey223 · 14/05/2013 10:18

Well done everyone :)

DS doesn't mind kicking me out of bed anyway!

FourLittleDudes · 14/05/2013 10:18

I got an email :-)

My eldest boys will be doing the decorating (aged 9 and 11) should be interesting!

NiniLegsInTheAir · 14/05/2013 10:21

Just had my email and I've just cried in the middle of the office. Blush Thank you so much Mumsnet, you have no idea how grateful I am.

LeBoob · 14/05/2013 10:28

Never mind, congrats to the winners tho, I'm sure you'll do a great job!

SconeInSixtySeconds · 14/05/2013 10:38

Congrats to the winners - looking forward to seeing some great results!

gazzalw · 14/05/2013 10:44

Thanks...DW is champing at the bit but think we need to involve DS in the decision-making as it's his room and he's going to be doing some of the work!

LackaDAISYcal · 14/05/2013 10:54

No email here either, but never mind; I have done quite well out of MN recently Thanks and B&Q as I recently did a focus group for them and got paid Smile

Looking forward to seeing the results. And I'll add my finished room onto the other thread if I ever get it done!

SweetestThing · 14/05/2013 11:08

I was picked!!! Absolutely thrilled - sorry to those who were unlucky, though.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 14/05/2013 11:12

No luck here, again. :(

Wowserz129 · 14/05/2013 11:21

Yay, I got picked for something good!

Chocchip88 · 14/05/2013 12:57

Well done those who were picked. May have to save up and get downstairs loo done now as I've been imagining it all nice and non smelly.

LegoAcupuncture · 14/05/2013 13:13

Well done to hose who were picked. Looking forward to seeing everyone's projects.

JakeBullet · 14/05/2013 14:25

I didn't get picked but now have a clear idea about what I want to achieve with my garden and its all thanks to this thread Grin

ouryve · 14/05/2013 14:38

I've just started clearing what I can out of the boys' room. I'm knackered already. Maybe I should have delegated bring the bookcase full of books downstairs to DH :o

florencebabyjo · 14/05/2013 14:57

Didn't get picked this time but great for those who did. Have fun with your projects!

ChippyMinton · 14/05/2013 16:01

Thanks MNHQ and B&Q

My grotty bedroom is about to become a boudoir unless DH has his say and it becomes a shrine to his footie team. Off to peruse the website. Anyone got any suggestions for a dark, cramped room that would minimise the impact of an entire wall of tired-looking white built-in wardrobes?

Can't wait to see everyone's makeovers Smile

janey223 · 14/05/2013 16:45

Chippy you could re-paint the wardrobes and add detailing? You could even use a wallpaper you like and use them as a feature rather than trying to hide them?

Failing that cover them up with panels or voile!

ChippyMinton · 14/05/2013 17:14

Thanks - food for thought. Maybe I could use a staple gun to stretch fabric over the doors? Or, most likely I will just change the door knobs!

janey223 · 14/05/2013 17:58

That'd work too!

ouryve · 14/05/2013 20:32

Door knobs make a huge differece, Chippy. When we moved in, the oak kitchen doors had faffy old fashioned knocker style handles and I hated them. I swapped them for some smart brushed chrome knobs and it made a huge difference to the appearance.

As for brightening the room up, a zingy yellow looks great in small dark rooms - it's a warm colour, but doesn't sap the light out of the room - and really stands out against the white. We have a lot of yellow in our rather long, dark house!
