Philips Man Iron Product Test feedback thread - FINALQUESTIONS ADDED

AnnMumsnet · 31/08/2011 12:35

This thread is for the MNers who were selected to try out Philips new Man Iron with their DH/DP or DS.

We have two waves of feedback questions - below are the initial first impressions ones and we'll add some more at a later date once you've had the iron for a few weeks to see how you are getting on then (we'll email you a link).

a) Receiving the Man Iron - first impressions - what did you think when you received the product? What did you think of the appearance of the Man Iron? What did DH, DP or DS say? How long did it take DH, DP or DS to use it?

b) Once the Man Iron has been used for the first time - was it easy to use? What did you think of the results? Did your DH/DP/DS use it - did they manage to get the ironing done?! Did the tutorial video help? What did DH, DP or DS think??

Remember - everyone who takes part and who adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky winner will get £100

Thanks, MNHQ

How often is DH, DP or DS using it? Once or twice a week, we try to keep ironing to the bare minimum.

Any reasons for use/ non use? DP prefers it to our other iron.

Do you wish you'd had one years ago? It's a good iron but at the end of the day it's just an iron.

What does your DH, DP or DS think? He prefers to use this iron, won't use the other one now.

Would you recommend the Man Iron to your friends and family? I told them about it as we are doing the product test but generally I wouldnt talk about ironing with my friends.

Any consequences of having the Man Iron - have you had more time to yourself? If so, what have you been doing with your spare time? DP can iron quicker now so a few extras usually get ironed as well.

Has the Man Iron helped reduce the ironing pile in your house? No it's increased as DP will sometimes iron things we wouldn't have previously.

Are shirts, trousers, t-shirts etc, now perfectly ironed by DH, DP or DS? Still wouldn't be quite up to my standard but he is better at doing the kids clothes.

Does DH, DP or DS now ?own? the ironing? We both take our turn.

Have you used it? Yes it is handier to use than our old iron.

Are you finding fewer arguments related to household chores as a result? Ironing isn't something we have ever argued about, life really is too short. Grin

Thanks for the iron, I have a feeling it is going to have a much longer life than our previous irons, so will be put to good use for many years to come.

How often is DH, DP or DS using it? Not since the first time he tried it I'm afraid :(
Any reasons for use/ non use? He isn't bothered if his clothes are creased and so just says not to do any ironing at all. I find it a bit heavy and big to use compared to my normal iron so it isn't getting used much at all.
Do you wish you'd had one years ago? Nope.
What does your DH, DP or DS think? He got all excited about the packaging but the novelty soon wore off! He just isn't ever going ot be bothered about ironing, black iron or not.
Would you recommend the Man Iron to your friends and family? No. I think an iron is a personal choice (as you can tell from the responses on here) and for me, this iron is too bog, heavy and expensive.

Any consequences of having the Man Iron - have you had more time to yourself? If so, what have you been doing with your spare time? No.

Has the Man Iron helped reduce the ironing pile in your house? No.
Are shirts, trousers, t-shirts etc, now perfectly ironed by DH, DP or DS? No.
Does DH, DP or DS now ?own? the ironing? Ha!

DH and DS1 are using the Man Iron regularly. DH is now doing most of the family ironing, although this is probably due to the fact he took voluntary redundancy in Sept and is now a house husband temporarily. DS1 is using the Man Iron to iron his school uniform and actually asks if I am ironing " Can I do that?". I would recommend the Man Iron but more because it has been an effective iron than because it is a Man Iron.

Any consequences of having the Man Iron - have you had more time to yourself? If so, what have you been doing with your spare time?

Yes I now have more time to myself but see above for reason for this. I have been using the time to indulge myself with a soak in the bath, reading more novels and of course spend more time on Mumsnet.

DH now owns the ironing temporarily and DS1 definately knows he has responsibility for ironing his uniform. The Man Iron has definately made DH show more interest in household appliances - I asked him to sort out the washing and put it to dry whilst I was at work a couple of weeks ago, I came home and found that he'd been out and bought a tumbledryer Shock

I think the speed it heats up and gets the job done has markedly reduced our ironing pile.

I'm still not keen on the fact that I end up changing the temperature accidently but would definately not hesitate to recommend this iron. Thank you Phillips for the opportunity to try it.

Sorry fir the late reply.
I can only access MN from my phone and finding it tricky to remember what the questions are without bring able to go back and read them so I'll just say what our experience of the iron has been.

Loved that the iron came in a box but haven't used it to store the iron in, too bulky to fit in the cupboard. But it has made an excellent home to dc's collection of moshling figures.

No bad points about the iron at all. I really like the amount of steam and the pointy end is great for ironing shirts. Nothing has melted or gotten stuck to the plate either.

I like the weight of the iron, not too heavy to use but enough to feel like its assisting.

DP and DS1 have both used the iron though they didn't watch the video. DS1 now irons all his own uniform and is willing to get the iron out and do his clothes before he goes out with jus friends on the weekend.

It does make ironing easier but has not, unfortunately encouraged me to partake in it any more often.

I would definitely recommend the iron.

I'm afraid my DH is not using the Man iron any more than he used our previous iron but he does much prefer using it to our old one - unfortunately not enough to use it more often.

I do find it takes less time to do the ironing now as it is a very good iron. It probably does mean that I spend more time on mumsnet though :)

It has had no dramatic effect on the ironing pile but I am wearing shirts more often as they are much easier to iron than with my previous iron. We continue to do our own ironing in this house so there has been no effect that way either.

It is a fantastic iron though and I am still very pleased to have been chosen to test it.

Thanks.
