Dear Berghaus tester

Many thanks for taking part in the Berghaus product test.

We'd be grateful if you could add feedback at least a couple of times over the next month or so - for now, your first impressions and then after a month or so we'll post some more detailed questions.

Everyone who is part of the test and who adds feedback here will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will win £150 of Berghaus products.

So, generally speaking, what are your first impressions? Was it as expected? Anything you particularly liked or disliked? How is the colour/ size etc? (any major problems which mean you want to exchange it, please do let us know)

You are more than welcome to add other comments/ feedback to this thread over the next month.

In your response please state which jacket you are testing.

Many thanks

Berghaus have asked us to pass on the following to you all;

"We?re really pleased to see such a positive response to the product test. A huge amount of time has gone into researching and developing these products, so we?re delighted that initial impressions are so positive!"
"We have noted some comments about the sizing of the products and are taking all feedback on board. We will ensure that our product development team is made aware of every comment, good or bad, received as part of this Mumsnet product test. We really do want to understand what we?re doing right with the range, and what we need to change or improve, so all feedback is valuable to us."

aseriouslyblondmoment: here's the response from Berghaus re washing your jacket;
"We would recommend that the Insulated Richmond Jacket is washed on a 30°C machine wash, full washing instructions are provided on the garment. The Fibrefill insulation has been designed to withstand these laundry conditions, therefore a Nikwax Tech wash is not required. We would however recommend using non-biological washing products due to their gentle washing properties as well as their economical benefits. As with any product of this kind we wouldn?t recommend washing unnecessarily, only when soiled.

Once the garment stops beading up on the surface, i.e. running off the product, it is recommended to reactivate the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coating by treating with a product like TX ? a home applied water repellent after treatment - which will help maintain the breathability of the product. It would then be advisable to use a Tech Wash afterwards following the product recommendations to restore the DWR."

Hi testers - you're welcome to add a review to the Berghaus website when you like. I believe you'll need to register with them first but I believe you could leave if you wanted to.

We're planning on adding the next slightly more detailed questions around the 2nd week of December, once you've been using them for about a month.

Thanks

Dear Berghaus "Everyday Outdoors" Jacket Tester

Many thanks for trying the Berghaus Jackets over the last month or so - the weather has certainly given most of them a good challenge!

Below are the questions Berghaus would like you to respond to for the final part of the project - they are very grateful for all the comments you've been adding over the past month - these will all be shared with the Berghaus team for future developments.

If you haven't already please do also add a review of your jacket to the Berghaus website if you can (use the links below).

Everyone who adds their feedback here will be entered into a prize draw where one winner can select £150 worth of product from the Berghaus range.

Please add in your reply the name of the jacket you've been trying and the colour - just to remind us. The three jackets were:

  1. The Akka Long Down Jacket RRP £150
  2. Insulated Richmond Jacket RRP £175
  3. Mid Insulated Parka RRP £170

Feedback questions - please feel free to add any additional comments:

Q1 What expecations did you have of the jacket? Did the jacket meet, exceed or fall below your expectations?
Q2 How did it feel to wear?

Q3 Did you feel that the jacket looked flattering?
Q4 Did your friends or family notice or comment on it? If so, what did they say?
Q5 Did it perform well for your day-to-day activities?
Q6 Would you recommend this jacket to other people? If so what would you say? If not, why not?
Q7 Do you think the jacket represents good value for money? What price would you be willing to pay for the jacket?
Q8 What did you think of the colour? What colour/s would you like to see in the colour range?
Q9 Any final observations/comments?

Many thanks and good luck with the prize draw

aseriously - I don't know but from what I can see a couple of MNers have done a review but used their MN name so maybe do that (or a version of it?) thanks

AnnMumsnet · 05/01/2011 13:47

Thank you to everyone for adding all the feedback - it's much appreciated by MN and by Berghaus.

Am pleased to say MrsTittlemouse has been selected as the winner of the £150 of Berghaus gear...an email is on it's way to you! Congrats.

AnnMumsnet · 18/01/2011 15:05

zam72 - I'm going to ask about this for you!

AnnMumsnet · 24/01/2011 18:39

Hi Zam72 - a response for you below from Berghaus:
"The Akka is designed to provide maximum warmth in cold conditions. It's not a waterproof jacket (and we are careful not to claim that it is), but the outside (or face) fabric will initially repel a certain amount of water. However, that property does wear off after a while, which explains your experience. The water repellent property can actually be re-activated with heat, by tumble drying the jacket (check the care label for the recommended tumble dryer setting). As a rule of thumb, down jackets offer the best insulation possible, but are not well suited to the wet. They can of course be worn under a waterproof to offer greater protection from rain, but on their own they work most effectively in cold, dry conditions"
Any other queries please do post here or PM me and I will ask for you.
