I disagree that this thread was more hostile. The responses lacked substance, and that is what disappointed me most.

spiritinthesky · 19/11/2009 15:29

colditz, you are right.someone should have asked him if he knew the price of a loaf of bread and pint of milk .

MadameDefarge · 19/11/2009 15:29

Yes, and GB actually got off his arse and went to MNHQ. DC had the lovely ladies scuttle over to Conservative Central Office. Clearly running the conservative party is a much busier job than running the country.

Labour blame everything on Thatcher, DC blames Brown..... It's endless. They need to look to improving things for the future not constantly trying the weedle out of everyth
ing.

8k is a HUGE amount for a 65 year old to pay. Neither of my parents can afford that so I assume that by the end my siblings and I will get nothing. So I don't really see how many people that policy bebefits

NickNemo · 19/11/2009 15:31

Oooohh.. I love muffins, what kind and can I have two of them please

elkiedee · 19/11/2009 15:31

re MP "And the thought of Health Visitors replacing Sure Start makes me want to weep" -quite!

You'd think a little preparatory research would have picked up how many of us have issues with health visitors here, wouldn't you?

SomeGuy · 19/11/2009 15:32

tatt, both chats seem very similar on the politician's answer (e.g., Q: What would you do about the terrible situation of X. A: Yes, situation X is terrible, I really feel for you), the GB thread seemed to have more research/numbers done for it though "There are ten thousand more students at uni this year. Today there are more than a million students studying in our universities, an all time record" and "We have come a long way in terms of improvement to maternity pay. In 1997, women were only entitled to 18 weeks maternity pay. This has now more than doubled to 39 weeks.

We?ve also more than doubled maternity allowance which has gone from 55.70 per week in 1997 to 123.06." etc.

NickNemo · 19/11/2009 15:32

Unfortunately for me this chat just reiterates that while DC may be a nice bloke, I just can't seem to relate to him or to Tory policy in general. ANd I don't think this thread was hostile. If anything people were more polite.

ahundredtimes · 19/11/2009 15:32

Well there's the problem starlight - GB seemed to have prepared his answers - and everyone said 'oh stop spouting at us' and DC seemed to have decided to do this on the hoof - and we're frustrated by his slowness and the fact he didn't really give answers to loads of really good and pressing questions.

Must admit am surprised at lack of preparation, agree with TDWP.

noddyholder · 19/11/2009 15:33

GOOD LORD HE WAS HOPELESS

pollycazalet · 19/11/2009 15:34

I don't think the tread was hostile. He wasn't doing us a favour by coming on - he's trying to win over a substantial audience and also attract kudos in the wider media for engaging in this sort of dialogue. He misjudged it and was under prepared - don't think it's hostile to point that out.

MadameDefarge · 19/11/2009 15:34

All Nick Clegg has to do is turn up with well prepared answers, in-depth knowledge of his party's policies and an urbane, engaging manner, and its a shoe in.

SomeGuy · 19/11/2009 15:35

Clearly running the conservative party is a much busier job than running the country.

You'd have to ask Peter Mandelson about that.

I keep thinking about pensioners being able to pay 8k in order to pass 1 million onto their children tax free

The gap between the rich and poor is going to widen again

remember when you woke up and every morning there was ice on the inside of the window... wasn't that fun

ScattyKatty · 19/11/2009 15:36

I wonder how much kudos a person can get for only answering a dozen questions?

I agree next time questions should be selected in advance, that way the best ones get clear answers.

NickNemo · 19/11/2009 15:36

MadameDefarge, you miss 'a decent typing speed'

noddyholder · 19/11/2009 15:36

Agree madame def.A bit of biscuit research and an unemployed typist and he's away!

MadameDefarge · 19/11/2009 15:36

Bet GB is having a quiet schadenfraud moment of happiness..

ScattyKatty · 19/11/2009 15:37

morningpaper isn't the 8K about not having to pay for care homes?

Twit · 19/11/2009 15:38

If this thread was more hostile, it is his own fault for telling everyone that WE ARE IMPORTANT VOTERS he is desperate to win over. As I said before, clearly we are not. This is the equivalent of being given a manky bunch of flowers from the garage the day after our birthday.

MadameDefarge · 19/11/2009 15:38
Grin
YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 19/11/2009 15:38

Well my vote is still very much up for grabs.

Anyone want it?

morningpaper · 19/11/2009 15:39

Scatty: It's more of an insurance policy (or a gamble?). You pay 8k so that when you move into a care home, you don't need to sell your house to pay for the care. Instead, you can keep your house (although you don't really need it, obviously) but you can then ensure that your house is passed onto your children tax-free when you die
