WEBCHAT GUIDELINES: 1. One question per member plus one follow-up. 2. Keep your question brief. 3. Don't moan if your question doesn't get answered. 4. Do be civil/polite. 5. Ooooooooh yeah I eremember

morningpaper · 07/10/2008 09:02

SG was baaaaad - just the worst choice EVER

But yes I do feel that basic courtesy is slipping

S1ur · 07/10/2008 09:03

I don't think so. I think that it helps when the people who come on are requested though, maybe less likely to bring about resentment.

But but but, we are especially irreverant which is good but must be frustrating for mnhq and annoying for visitors.

I think it would help if we slagged discussed oncoming visitors in a separate thread.

S1ur · 07/10/2008 09:13

I'm just trying to re-read last nights webchat but my computer is sooooo slow this morning.

I do remember thinking before he came on how rude and rejecting everyone was... but then I also found out that for some of those posters it was because they thought he was misogynistic so I lost a bit of sympathy.

Like I said I think it would be good for us if we had a preparation thread for us to dissect the guests and hone our insults debates. Not least because we look like twats when we miss out on pinning someone down on something or holding them to account.

EachPeachPearMum · 07/10/2008 09:58

I think TP actually took it really well!
He's still a twunt though.

What happened? (in a nutshell)

squeaver · 07/10/2008 10:04

I must admit I thought he did ok apart from all the xxxxooos at the end of his answers (or was he being ironic?).

But if they (or their people) are any good they should realise what they're getting into before they come on.

On a purely technical note, it's a bit annoying scrolling backwards and forwards to see what question they're actually answering.

umberella · 07/10/2008 10:05

she got run out of town

can't find link but it ws hi-larious

EachPeachPearMum · 07/10/2008 10:15

perhaps he thought we were Netmums?

morningpaper · 07/10/2008 10:22

Do you think it would make a difference if we knew which chats were being sponsored i.e. paid for?

Do you think we would be politer or do you think it would just be a(n) horrific tirade of embarassing abuse??

WideWebWitch · 07/10/2008 10:32

I think it was fine last night, he didn't asnwer scummy's PERFECTLY reasonable question though and fair enouh that people asked him to.But other than that, TP is a big boy and can look after himself imo. OK, calling him a cnt was pushing it but it was deleted, no? (skimmed this am, went to bed at half ten last ight)

Shereddarzi or whatever she's called was ALWAYS going to be a BAD choice, c'mon!

So no, I don't think we're 'too big for our boots' - I think this is on the whole an intelligent site and guests should do their research and know what they're letting themselves in for. If they don't, well, more fool them, frankly.

TiltingAtWindmills · 07/10/2008 10:34

Was surprised that the actual chat took place on the original thread announcing it, but apart from that...... meh.

He got publicity.

S1ur · 07/10/2008 10:42

Think he was called a twunt rather than a cunt but [shrug].

mrsruffallo · 07/10/2008 10:45

I find it a bit embarrassing when posters are very rude.

snice · 07/10/2008 10:45

TP came on to promote his book-so whatever happened for him it was worth it. However I do think it descended a little into who could be more of a clever dick and basic courtesy went out of the window.

It was quite funny though

Eniddo · 07/10/2008 10:46

I dont read/listen/take part in the webchats as they are always rude and I find it embarrassing

MrsJohnCusack · 07/10/2008 10:54

yes you have a good point cod
but I did have tears of mirth running down my face at points during the TP chat (have just read it all)

HOWEVER I think there are plenty of guests that we could get that wouldn't induce such rudeness (because it is a bit toe-curling). SG was a ridiculous idea (sorry MNHQ) and TP is one of those people that many find utterly infuriating

Cappuccino · 07/10/2008 10:58

I think people are more likely to be rude late at night

but also wonder if it is best if they start off in a new thread, with mn towers editing the questions down to start it with

Cappuccino · 07/10/2008 10:59

yes SG was ridiculous

proper experts rather than stars I think

morningpaper · 07/10/2008 11:01

I thought he was v. good

I like seeing how people respond to webchat - their previous skills notwithstanding, it can be interesting. He was a very good guest, I like it when they are typey typey typey without too much in the way of careful and measured responses.

Not quite sure how I brought my norks into it, that is due to it being too late at night and me having just blown up 200 balloons

S1ur · 07/10/2008 11:02

How is party prep going MP?

Cappuccino · 07/10/2008 11:03

"Not quite sure how I brought my norks into it"

oh such false modesty mp

you were going to force your norks or your big knickers in to the thread somehow. You were talking to a man over 40 after all.
