Hello

We’re pleased to announce a webchat with Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrat Party, on Friday 2 June at 1pm.

Tim has been MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale since 2005 and was elected leader of the Lib Dems in July 2015. He has also held roles as party spokesman for youth, rural affairs and home affairs, as well as being national party president from 2011 to 2015.

The Lib Dem manifesto for the election on June 8 includes a second referendum on the Brexit deal, a 1p income tax increase to raise funds for the NHS and social care, opposition to the planned expansion of grammar schools, the extension of free childcare to all two-year-olds, and an additional month’s paid paternity leave for fathers.

Please do join the chat on Friday at 1pm, or if you can’t make it, leave a question here in advance. Please do share the webchat on social - the more, the merrier!

As always, please remember our webchat guidelines - one question each, follow-ups if there’s time and please keep it civil.

(As we approach the General Election we will endeavour to offer you a balanced diet of webchats with politicians from different parties; we hope to have more announcements soon.)

Thanks
MNHQ

This was great to read.

It's so frustrating that everyone thinks Lib Dem is a wasted vote, even if they really like them. It's only a wasted vote if people don't vote according to their principles/opinions. If as many people voted Lib Dem as said they liked them they would actually be able to make an impression!

Oscarandelliesmum · 02/06/2017 14:15

What a fantastic webchat, easily the best I have read. You are nailing it, Tim. I am a teacher and am delighted to read (stood up and cheered) your answer to Noblegiraffe, 'Idealogical fads' indeed!

Sincerely hope this marks a well deserved change of fortunes for the Lib Dems. You have my vote and good luck on Thursday.

Thanks v. much for organizing this, RowanMumsnet

So, we've had Jeremy (last week?) and now Tim.

When's Theresa May scheduled for?

Grin
Kaija · 02/06/2017 14:24

"When's Theresa May scheduled for?"

There's not enough popcorn in the world for that one.

Kaija · 02/06/2017 14:27

We'd need a sweepstake on how many times the words "I'm very clear" would appear.

Oscarandelliesmum · 02/06/2017 14:30

She would be 'strong and stable'.....like a well constructed ikea sideboard and just as wooden

WeakAndUnstable · 02/06/2017 14:30

...and a couple of these Gin

VanillaSugar · 02/06/2017 14:31

Come on Theresa, you know you have to do it.

BabychamSocialist · 02/06/2017 14:49

We need to have a "Theresa May(hem) drinking game" - might need an ambulance on standby for anyone who draws "Let me be clear on this" or "strong and stable"...

VanillaSugar · 02/06/2017 14:56

Excellent idea. Can we sell this concept to Hasbro and get royalties?

NC4T · 02/06/2017 16:29

I'm disappointed that my question wasn't addressed.

QuiQuaiQuod · 02/06/2017 16:33

welly I was on the JC one too!!

as for deleting my post WTF?

for speaking the truth?

HQ don't like being told off then??

Saucery · 02/06/2017 16:41

A few months ago I dismissed voting Lib Dem out of hand, but the performance of the party and its Leader over the last weeks have changed my mind. I'm gloomy about the prospects of them winning in my area, but I hope elsewhere they do well.

Kaija · 02/06/2017 16:45

Damn, I hate missing a deletion. What was the gist?

Dearohdeer · 02/06/2017 16:46

Brilliant answer Tim, this is how you hold a Q&A I was going to vote labour but you've changed my mind.

TwoLeftSocks · 02/06/2017 17:04

Thank you Tim, thumbs up from me Smile

muckypup73 · 02/06/2017 17:15

Honestly a vote to Lib dem is a vote wasted.

noblegiraffe · 02/06/2017 17:21

I asked him that mucky and he said

I'm bound to say that I would certainly appeal to those people who are thinking of voting Labour or Green in an area where the Lib Dems could win, to consider lending us their support to defeat the Conservatives.

RufusTheRenegadeReindeer · 02/06/2017 17:26

Yeah you keep saying that mucky

muckypup73 · 02/06/2017 17:35

Yes in area where the Lib dems have a chance of winning to defeat the Tories, how many areas would that be? Our area is Tory held.
