I'd ring/email the student union and ask them, maybe they could put up a poster or something

Rhubarb · 14/03/2007 21:04

Student bands may well do it for free just for the chance to play in front of an audience.

Definitely put posters up in the SU.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/03/2007 21:09

will give it a go.

thank you muchly.

At my last wedding we had a great band - but ExH had loads of music connections. The style of band was great though - sort of jazz, salsa, fusion thing - I would really recomend it for a grown up evening do.

For my next wedding (in June) we are having an outdoors, chilled, hog roast, child friendly, Cailidh band.

How about some Morris dancers?

funnypeculiar · 14/03/2007 22:02

lol at hunker - my mum's a morris dancer - shall I ask her for you??

NormaStanleyFletcher · 14/03/2007 22:19

SOrry - Hunker .. or anyone - could you come over to this sugar in formula thread
I am not sure that i can do it on my own

NormaStanleyFletcher · 14/03/2007 22:20

Though I am thinking that posting on there is pointless - so please ignore me

ghosty · 14/03/2007 22:29

VVV - my BIL plays in a Skiffle band ... they are really good and good fun for a wedding (washboards, spoons etc - anything they can get their hands on - BIL plays the Mandolin)
A great bunch of guys ... in their 40s, been playing for years, very experience musicians but do it for a laugh.
They played at my sister's wedding ... had everyone up dancing.

Shall I put you in touch? I don't know how much they are.

MarsLady · 14/03/2007 22:31

I know a half decent live band! Do you have one in mind? What type of music are you looking for? And perhaps I should actually read the thread?

crystalpony · 14/03/2007 22:35

What is your actual budget? We had an irish ceilidh band at our wedding and I think it was four people plus a caller (to teach the dancing and shout the instructions) and I think it was around £450...but it was worth ABSOLUTELY EVERY PENNY - the atmosphere was fantastic and every single person from toddlers to OAPs were up and joining in.

What about something like that?

VeniVidiVickiQV · 14/03/2007 23:19

if you could ask ghosty that'd be fab.

CrystalP - i've heard they are great fun, but having never seen one, i'm a bit unsure as to what to expect.

PavlovtheCat · 14/03/2007 23:24

Normanstanleyflecther - we wanted a hog roast but cant seem to get an outdoors venue! Funny seeing as we live in devon!

NormaStanleyFletcher · 14/03/2007 23:53

Ahhh well ILs garden (HUGE) is our venue - in the borders in Scotland - surrounded by hills, rivers, sheep and midges

VeniVidiVickiQV · 15/03/2007 16:12

Surely time of year affects the midge issue?

Sounds blardy lovely all the same
