Hello

We’re pleased to announce that Julian Clary will be joining us for a webchat on Wednesday 29 July at 1pm.

Julian has recently published The Bolds, his first book for children - packed with wildly hilarious jokes, eccentric characters and brilliant illustrations. The book is perfect for children aged 7+.

Mr and Mrs Bold are just like you and me: they live in a nice house, they have nice jobs and they love to have a bit of a giggle. There's just one slight difference: they're hyenas.
So far, the Bolds have managed to keep things under wraps, even when their children Bobby and Betty were born. But the nosy man next door smells a rat (or a hyena) - is their secret about to be revealed?

Julian has made numerous appearances on TV and on stage, published four books and continues to tour the UK and Australia with his one man shows. He also does panto most years as he enjoys wearing silly clothes and lots of make-up.

Please do join us on the day here for a live discussion from 1pm on Wednesday 29 July but if you can’t make it, leave your question for Julian on this thread. As ever, please remember our webchat guidelines.

Thanks

Hi Julian.

Just to say I've been a fan since "Sticky Moments".

Your show saved me from a nasty homophobic man, and inflicting him on my lovely family over the Christmas holidays....it's a long story!

Thanks!!

@insanityscatching

Do you like to cook and what is your best dish?

Hope I'm allowed a second questionSmile

I loathe being in the kitchen. I can bear it for about five minutes, long enough to make a salad or an omelette. Luckily I have a partner who does all that sort of nonsense for me. Between you and me, I sometimes pretend to be more incompetent than I really am so that he insists I leave the cooking arena. Very deceptive but true.

Julian are you going to be watching the Bake Off next week? What are you opinions on Mary Berry? I'd love to see the pair of you knocking up a Victoria Sponge...

LineRunner · 29/07/2015 13:49

Julian, do you like Viz Comic?

Thank you for making me laugh btw. Very funny web chat. Sometimes they can be a bit dour. Or just a bit crap yes you, Holly Willoughby

@Pedestriana

Hello again Julian, I've just got back from a weekend's camping. I've been in a field with a load of other people - lots of feathers, sequins and innuendo. You'd be a great headline act at the cabaret show. Do you have any advice for suitable innuendo I can use next time we go? I've managed to slip in things about tent pegs, getting it up (the tent) and the size of various erections (big top, etc.). Or should I just put on my wellies and poncho and shut up?

I think you're mixing me up with someone else. I am a respectable children's author.

Bake Off brings me out in hives.

Hi, Julian, Are you still friends with Judith Chalmers? I saw her on TV yesterday, having not seen her for a long time,..and she was fabulous.

Yes, I used to. But I am a respectable children's author and it would be unseemly for me to be seen with anything so vulgar in my hands.

Fleur78 · 29/07/2015 13:52

Hi Julian,
I was lucky enough to win a copy of your new book for my son. He loved it . His question for you is where did you get your jokes form?

So glad your son enjoyed The Bolds. Some of the jokes are traditional, some really are from Christmas crackers and some are made up!

Fleur78 · 29/07/2015 13:55

Thank you

You just made his day speaking to a real author x

Dear Judith. I adore her. She's so camp, but I don't think she realises. I have very happy memories of our holiday together in Key West (Wish you were here?). We still meet up occasionally for champagne and canapes, although I know Judith prefers a saveloy.

JulianClary · 29/07/2015 13:58

5 minutes of my company left. Hasn't it flown by? It's a wonder I can type with my cheeks bulging with Mumsnet chocolate biscuits. Any more questions before I slip away?

LineRunner · 29/07/2015 13:58

That's it, I've gone into a spasm Grin

addingtothenoise · 29/07/2015 13:58

I am doing an event in Richmond at the library, I think it's next week. Perhaps I'll pop back to Teddington to have a vada for old times' sake.

TheImminentGin · 29/07/2015 14:03

JulianClary · 29/07/2015 14:04

I do hope you enjoy The Bolds.

Until next time, I thank you. JC
