We put Mumsnetters' questions to Former Secretary of State (and, if rumours are to be believed, potentially the first female President of the USA) Hillary Clinton. See what she has to say on abortion rights, learning to brush off misogynist criticism, becoming a grandmother - and how she squares her position as a feminist icon with 'standing by her man'.

Have a look, and tell us what you think on the thread. And don't forget to have a look at Hillary's special message for Mumsnetters, . RebeccaMumsnet is, understandably, thrilled Grin.

I don't understand why they were cut but thank you for asking them and putting them up.

I was hoping for something more concrete from her re life sentences for children. I find it interesting that no-one is willing to challenge state law on issues such as this.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 07/07/2014 21:03

MostWicked These laws are being challenged and the US Supreme Court has handed down recent decisions limiting the extent to which the states can impose life sentences for juveniles. It can be a long process because of the interplay between state law and constitutional issues decided by the Supreme Court. But activists in the US are working on it, at both the state and national level.

Thank you for putting Hillary's answer on health up. I think she made a good point in acknowledging the problems of poverty and poor access to HC which affect many women in the US.

TeaforRoo · 08/07/2014 06:11

Apologies but would someone explain to me the significance of her "special mumsnetter message". I've obviously missed something somewhere..

Fiderer · 08/07/2014 09:07

"The Secret Service Does Not Comment on Procedure" abbreviated on MN to TSSDNCOP - is a quote from The West Wing (US political drama) meaning "we do what we do but we don't tell anyone what that is", more or less.

Think it was OliviaMN who started using it to describe how trolls etc. were detected and dealt with on MN, i.e. HQ didn't want to advertise their detection methods. Olivia is a WW fan, and especially a fan of the lovely Sam Seaborn

I assume Hillary Clinton is also a WW fan, hence the link.

digdeepforanswers · 08/07/2014 11:02

Because of her age, I think she is undecided about standing for President. But my guess is she will run

JugglingFromHereToThere · 08/07/2014 11:14

Ahh, I've always wondered what that crazy long string of letters could stand for! Thanks Hillary and Fiderer for clearing that up for me.

She's a star, why don't we have politicians like her in the UK? I think someone like her could transform our political system.

Plonkysaurus · 08/07/2014 13:20

She's fantastic.

I was nine when she made her Women's Rights are Human Rights speech and have just gone and educated myself on HRC. What an inspiration.

Please god(s) don't say our only equivalent is Theresa May.

Lesuffolkandnorfolk · 09/07/2014 14:42

Making a considered decision to remain in a marriage where there has been infidelity (or any other of the myriad ways in which one breaks ones marriage vows) is NOT incompatible with being a Feminist.

If you take things to a logical conclusion then surely being married is incompatible with being a Feminist all things (patriarchal basis of marriage) considered?

And I am another woman who is Shock at her being asked this question.

She is awesome and Scone I really love your posts.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 09/07/2014 16:20

Thanks, Lesuffolk. Awesome is indeed the word. I just hope she runs.

CheerfulYank · 10/07/2014 03:03

I get to vote for her :o

SarahThane · 10/07/2014 13:20

Pretty thrilled with a 'no', stupid me.

This must have taken a lot of organising, thank s

LocalEditorWalthamForest · 12/07/2014 21:14

I've just seen this. Head buried in the sand obviously. Really hoping she makes a run for 2016 now and gives us a chance to get some sanity back on the Supreme Court benches. The lifetime appointment law may need revisiting in light of the increase in longevity rates since the days of the Founding Fathers. But "those guys" have GOT TO GO!

The last election cost her a fortune, so hopefully we can consider that a deposit against the future. Well done, MNHQ. I thought it was well-balanced, but not thrilled "we" wanted to waste time rehashing her marital choices.

Got a lovely thank you letter today from Hillary on fabulous headed paper [shallow]. Thought I'd share...
