Join us on Monday 10 June at 8.30pm for an evening webchat with Richard Bacon, Radio 5 Live broadcaster, ex-Blue Peter presenter and now author of his memoir, A Series of Unrelated Events. In his book Richard gives a frank and very funny glimpse into his life and the mistakes he's made along the way, from upsetting a band on live TV, performing stand-up comedy to a group who were funnier than him to letting down all the children of Great Britain. As well as Blue Peter, Richard has presented TV shows including the Big Breakfast and Top of the Pops and currently hosts a weekday Radio 5 Live afternoon show.

Join Richard at 8.30 pm on Monday 10 June or post a question to him in advance on this thread. Everyone who joins the discussion will be entered into a draw to win one of five signed copies of his book.

I don't know who you are, are you one of those ones that gets mixed up with Shakespeare?

Hullygully · 10/06/2013 21:45

Oh you've gorn.

That is very sad

I guess I will never know you and what we might have shared

Hullygully · 10/06/2013 21:46

Mind you, I didn't even know there was a radio 5

when did that happen?

Hullygully · 10/06/2013 21:47

OR

Did you ever read that marvellous William story where the history teacher is driven mad by William asking him about why Shakespeare wrote stories about Ham?

Hullygully · 10/06/2013 21:47

I love those stories

Hullygully · 10/06/2013 21:48

If only Richmal wasn't dead, how great would she have been?

Hullygully · 10/06/2013 21:49

Altho the best story is where William is up a tree while a hideous admirer coos at "little Ethel" beneath

or perhaps the one with the sheep

Hullygully · 10/06/2013 21:53

Or the one where he teaches a frog to know and love him

and to jump

unfortunately it showed more aptitude at jumping

never bettered

wonderstuff · 10/06/2013 21:55

Hully have you been drinking Grin

emsiewill · 10/06/2013 22:47

I really liked Richard Bacon until I read this. I'm glad that he's happy with his life, but all that 'come and work in the media because it's better than your job' bollocks is tiresome.

wonderstuff · 11/06/2013 19:02

I think sometimes though when you write on screen it doesn't come across the same? I read that as being tongue in cheek?

Cherrypi · 11/06/2013 19:17

Yes, I guess he could have been being sarcastic. He's also friends with Giles Coren though, who strikes me as a first-class arse ache.

Listen to me! As if Richard Bacon cares what I think. He is getting better looking as he ages; I'll give him that.

Darkesteyes · 11/06/2013 23:23

Rachel if you buy this months Easy Living and this months Red you will see a glaring hypocrisy in Giles Coren as well.
Also cant help wondering how Richards comments about keeping his social life almost intact after baby would have gone down on the Relationships board if he wasnt famous.

Darkesteyes · 11/06/2013 23:27

Next 2 posts are from my inbox. I sent them to a fellow Mner when we were pming each other a few days back.

Ive just been to the Easy Living website and bloody Giles Coren has done an article for them "when did mens bodies become fair game" about the objectification of men ffs Sorry for rant

Darkesteyes · 11/06/2013 23:29

Hes also done an article for Red this month. In said article four male writers talk about what they love about their wives/partners. Most are lovely. Pete Paphides one about Caitlin Moran made me melt.
But Giles Corens talked about how he liked his wife for her hotness and then a list of her body parts.
Ruined the whole theme of the article. And he admitted in said article that his wife puts up with his sexist ways. So he has form for this. He does not sound like a nice bloke.

Hypocrisy much?!

Clayhead · 13/06/2013 18:35

He mentioned jillfiona's none year old on the next podcast!
