...for a live bake-along? Mince pies? Stollen? Sausage rolls?

Bring back Dan!

oooh, that would be fab.

Umami · 27/11/2010 19:02

Dan, Dan, he's our man!

I like the idea of a bake-off, but Dan is not my man. Not after I followed his recipe for honey and chocolate meringues diligently and upon baking they emerged looking like dog turds (and I do know how to cook a fine meringue ). Sorry Dan!

MmeLindt · 27/11/2010 19:42

Have contacted MNHQ and Dan on Twitter

Umami · 27/11/2010 21:10

What do you fancy bakealonging Mme?

salty
I have done two bake-offs, and both times the results were great. Everyone was mega impressed with the hot cross buns.

Something very British that I cannot buy here, like Mince Pies would be great, but they are not really that difficult to do. Hmm.

I must try a clootie dumpling this year, never attempted that.

My problem is that most of the British Christmassy stuff is with tons of dried fruit, and DH doesn't like that so I rarely bake them. Not worth it.

Umami · 27/11/2010 22:14

Yes, mince pies hardly need guidance, do they.

Perhaps a festive muffin?

Funny, isn't that we Brits go all out with the dried fruit at Xmas. Poor DH always misses out on the yummy desserts. Although my mother makes trifle to make up for it, so he is hardly suffering.

I guess it would be too late for Xmas cake/pudding anyway. Don't they have to be done weeks before Xmas?

saltyseadog · 29/11/2010 06:41

Mmmmm...biscotti would be lovely. Or mince pies with a homemade mincemeat - yum.

I would actually like Dan to come on here so that he can explain where I went wrong with the damn meringues (my dh still likes to recount the tale....).

Any response from him MmeLindt?

Umami · 29/11/2010 18:36

I too am quite intrigued to know what went wrong with the turd meringues Grin I am crap at meringues. My last pav was a huge empty hollow shell.

GeraldineMumsnet · 02/12/2010 14:12

Umami · 02/12/2010 18:09

Hurrah!
