Litter of kittens found..paging experts please!

Whilst out and about this afternoon I have found a litter of six kittens in a clump of ivy in the garden of a derelict house.

I estimate them to be about 2 - 2 1/2 weeks old. Their eyes are all open and they look in good shape, other than being totally filthy and riddled with fleas.

Being the soft stupid sod devoted cat lover I am I sat in the garden for three hours at a discreet distance from the nest and waited for the mother to return. Nada. So I packed them into my rucksack, brought them home via the vet (who kindly checked them over), gave them a bath (they were black-bright and stank of urine) and settled them in a box with a hot water bottle / towel.

I have kitten formula from the vet and have fed them about 3-4ml each from a syringe. They all fed well and promptly piddled all over me, which was encouraging, if a bit grim-smelling.

I know to feed them about that much every two hours, to rub their bellies to stimulate their bowels, to keep them warm etc etc. Is there anything else I need to do?

Yours, in anticipation of precious little sleep over the next few weeks,

C

Oh Cailleach I just found this thread and have spent a very happy hour reading reading through and watching all the videos!

You lovely lovely person Thanks

I want a cat more than ever now < wails >

(And I'd adopt Fudge in a heartbeat if I didn't spend months at a time away from home)

Has he found an owner yet?

Pear Fudge is a girl ;) and no, we really can't keep her, as much as we want to!

Just a quick video of Ivy and Fudge here:

Sorry for poor quality; my camera isn't as good as my Mums!

Shame you can't, Cailleach - that clip of her playing with Ivy is lovely Smile

Shame I can't, too - Minx seems to have decided my feet are the nearest thing to another kitten in her life Grin. (She has been tentatively introduced to her new big sisters but I don't think I can unleash her completely yet)

TheOne I know, she's adorable...but never mind.

Glad to hear Minxy is doing well: funnily enough I have spent much of the day shaking Fudge off my feet...must be a family trait!

How did the introductions go? Were your cats OK?

The introduction was quite encouraging, Cailleach - they all touched noses, the only hiss came from Minx initially, & I gave the big ones some Dreamies, but then one of them growled a bit so I took her away again.

Later though DS2 left her door open (upstairs) & we found her in the kitchen being sniffed again Grin

The situation is complicated by the presence of DD2's big boy cats but they will be leaving on Monday so things should be easier then (touch wood!)

Can you see pics on your phone? If so I can send you a couple Smile

OMG I'm The kittens are famous! A classic... thanks Mumsnet staffers and thanks for everyone who voted for the thread.

TheOne I wouldn't worry too much about the big cats hissing and growling: one of mine is still snarling at them from time to time but nevertheless likes to play with them when my back is turned! It has taken them many weeks to accept them but they are coming around now.

Yesterday we had a heart-warming moment with BigFatPatchyCailleachCat: she was grooming Ivy. Unfortunately by the time I got the camera, she'd stopped :(

Yes I can see photos on my phone; I'd love to see how Minx is growing, Fudge and Ivy are mushrooming!

Tried a third but it went in upside down (twice)

Is anybody else having problems???

(Cailleach, if you text me your email address I'll send them that way!)

Aha

My general profile wasn't public before - now it is but there are only 2 pics & one of them is the upside-down one

Will have another go Grin

cozietoesie · 04/01/2014 23:21

Looks like you've removed the upside down one?

Smile

Report
TheOneWithTheNicestSmile · 04/01/2014 23:23

Yes I have, cozie, sorry

I had another go at adding the right-way-up one but no luck

(The upside-down-one was right way up in preview mind you)

I'll try again Grin
