Hi there,

As you may have seen, Mumsnet is running a campaign to tackle medical misogyny, shining a light on the ways women are too often dismissed, disbelieved or not taken seriously when they seek healthcare.

We've been speaking to a journalist who is working on a piece about medical misogyny and is particularly interested in hearing from women who feel misogyny, gender bias, or a lack of understanding of how heart disease and cardiovascular conditions can present differently in women may have affected their diagnosis or care.

We're keen to hear from women who feel their symptoms were dismissed, misdiagnosed or attributed to something else before they were eventually diagnosed with a heart or cardiovascular issue.

If you've experienced this, and you'd be willing to speak to a journalist about it, please do let us know by replying below or emailing [email protected].

Thanks,
MNHQ

Probably not quite what you are looking for, but certainly linked.

I learned yesterday that an early indicator of CVD is breast arterial calcification which shows up on mammograms. I don't think this is widely known. If not why not? https://www.escardio.org/news/press/press-releases/ai-can-predict-risk-of-serious-heart-disease-from-mammograms/

AI can predict risk of serious heart disease from mammograms

Not me, my mum had a heart attack at 50 something. She had had stomach issues but also felt heart wasnt right for years.
Around the heart attack i think she went in sent home then back in hospital and finally a stent put in. She didnt have the standard symptoms. But did smoke so would be higher risk.
i think probably fobbed off as stress/anxiety etc.

But an example of not treating women correctly is also pcos. They should be offered metformin to reduce heart issues.
Thyroid issues also more affect women and the tsh levels before being allowed treatment are very high!

Also not sure if covid related but at i think 45 dp was offered a health mot by gp but being a few months younger i never was.
