MNHQ here: Back Off campaign: tell Sajid Javid your views

Hello

As some of you will know, Mumsnet is backing the Back Off campaign to prevent anti-abortion protestors from harrassing women using termination services.

The new Home Secretary, Sajid Javid, is going to be in charge of seeing the review process through, and Back Off would like him to hear from members of the public letting him know that the issue is still important to them.

Back off have an email template you can use here.

Thanks

MNHQ

If Savid achieves anything with anything, I would consume my headgear.

He's my MP and is a complete waste of space and has done more damage to our community than anyone else ever has. He's a yes boy-agrees with anything and anyone he is with-until the next person comes along and he agrees with them. A slippery customer. Shown by the fact that two cabinet reshuffles ago he was tipped to be sacked by TM-and now...?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 16/05/2018 12:53

I guess the problem with people like him is that they have no unique place in the Tory party other than for being socially conservative. It reminds me of the situation in Canada where he right-wing courted the Muslim vote in an effort to stop racially partisan politics (Hindus v Muslims) and to align more socially conservative policies, but now Canada is in a position where the majority of the population is Islamophobic but there is no party to represent the Islamophobia.

The two main overlaps between him and the Tories are economic and social (highly conservative), but the former can be achieved better by other Tory members, while the latter is too conservative for us. I think maybe the Tories lack far-right political members in their party and that the establishment (universities etc...) have hushed up a lot of the far-right leaning types that mean there isn't anyone new coming onto the scene with a history of leaning to the far-right.

He can't represent anti-racism views in the current political climate (unlike maybe Indians and Jews) and none of his supporters are predominantly middle class (unlike Patel), The position he is filling is also fraught with moral issues concerning things like police powers and immigration which the Tory voter base would require him to take a whitewashed stance on.
