Mumsnetters save BBC Food for the nation!

Afternoon all - Happy New Year

A hot slice of what we hope is good news for you: the BBC has confirmed to us that its much-loved BBC Food site is going to remain in place, despite moves to close it some time ago - and has told us that the decision is 'because of your letter and your members'. (Read Justine's letter to James Purnell here.)

It seems the power of outraged/knackered/hungry parents has saved BBC Food's collection of recipes for a grateful nation.

And if that's not a reason to break the January diet and knock up an enormous lasagne, we don't know what is.

Cheers!
MNHQ xx

Result - I often use its recipes when I can't be bothered to hunt through my growing pile of cookery books!

wowfudge · 06/01/2018 08:39

I don't know if I am correct, but I trust BBC Food because I believe the recipes have been properly checked by home economists. Everything I have ever made from their recipes has worked perfectly.

newtlover · 06/01/2018 10:33

good news, I find the search function excellent for those times i need to make a vegetarian main course and have only swede, potato and chickpeas in stock

A580Hojas · 06/01/2018 14:46

Another one here delighted with this!

Jozxyqk · 06/01/2018 15:45

Brilliant. I use it at least once a month, and sometimes several times a week. I was quite worried when they announced the might close it.

GreyMorning · 06/01/2018 16:35

Didn't they threaten to axe CBBies a few years ago too?

NeverTwerkNaked · 06/01/2018 20:09

Amazing news!

InflagranteDelicto · 06/01/2018 20:43

Great news! Ds is doing Gcse food tech and that's always his first stop because it's so clear and easy to understand.

Jux · 06/01/2018 21:12

I used both bbc food and bbc good food. It amuses me when I use the former site to think I am making bad food!

echt · 07/01/2018 04:47

Excellent news. Can't tell you how many times I've wanted info on a recipe and found the BBC Food the best guide - not least because they don't naff around with cups!!

Well done, Mumsnetters.

MissFitton · 07/01/2018 12:11

Excellent stuff. It's used regularly here.

Anyone else picturing a Ian Fletcher/Simon Harwood led meeting in Nadia Hussein to discuss the issue? 😁

ziggiestardust · 07/01/2018 12:26

This is great! I’m using it right now!

But I don’t understand why it was under threat... they use lots of advertising. On the mobile version, you have to scroll past an ad to get to the method!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 07/01/2018 13:46

Wonderful news! My Favourites list is years old and I would really miss some of the pirogi recipes.

I have an account with both Food and Good Food, they have quite different recipes and articles!

Gilead · 07/01/2018 15:49

Brilliant! I use that website regularly!

ScaryMary81 · 07/01/2018 17:08

Fantastic, I love BBC food great for new ideas and classics every time.

Frillier?

BBC Good Food recipes are more basic every day food. It's the BBC Food ones that have all the cheffy ones on (as well as some good everyday food too). I guess I'm saying there is a range on both but the basis of BBC Good Food is 101 Family meals, 101 Cakes and Bakes etc (I have those books as well) and BBC Food is all the recipes from TV programmes so predominantly chefs not food writers and good home cooks.

seafoodeatit · 08/01/2018 08:08

Fantastic! My go to place for recipes!

IamPickleRick · 08/01/2018 10:39

Wonderful!!! I use this at least twice a week, sometimes as much as once a day! So glad it’s staying!

TheDogsMother · 08/01/2018 18:04

Brilliant news ! I use it all the time.
