lastnight i watched britains got talent, i was shocked to hear nicole scherzingers new song "right there" an i strongly think something should be done about its highly sexual lyrics, its one of the worse sexually refrenced songs iv heard of late, and it is being listened to and even sang by young children, songs, magazines, music video's influence society grately, especially children. just because there are other songs guilty of being inopropriate does not make it ok, its wrong that its becoming acceptable yes this song isnt the only one to be guilty of sexual lyrics but that does not mean we should start accepting this sort of content or that it isnt a very serious issue, its encouraging kids to dress more sexually and be subjected to sexual content and more sexual behaviour and content. leaving them volnerable to peodofiles, under age sex, under age pregnancies. its a huge issue. listen to her latest song to see what im talking about, lyrics include ‎"come an get it put your hands on my body, keep it right there, i love it when u put it right there, me like the way he kiss my....an goes down" its highly pornagraffic in a obvious way. id like to think im not the only 1 outraged by these lyrics and not the only one willing to get my voice heard?

i think the clothes campain is marvellous and im so glad people are making a stand. but i feel this is a huge issue too if not bigger, because its the music and fashion industry that encorage kids to dress sexually in the first place. at least with clothes you can choose not to buy them for children or not allow them to wear the inopropriate ones. but with music its very very hard to cencer it from kids. its on the radio, on there ipods/phones. its on the tv, its everywhere. often we dont even know what there listning to at a friends house

ban it?? good luck with that one then!!

Snorbs · 06/06/2011 11:00

So you wish to completely ban something because it's unsuitable for children? You cannot make everything everwhere child-friendly and, frankly, it makes parents as a whole sound like obsessive loons to attempt to do so.

Keeping my children protected from stuff that is inappropriate for them is my job, it's not the world's.

I'd absolutely agree with you that broadcasters should be more aware of the likely audience when they do play sexually explicit songs. But it's madness to call for such music to be banned completely.

OTOH, I don't let my children watch BGT because it's utterly shite and horrendously exploitative. BGT and its ilk is one of the main driving forces behind today's cult of celebrity and the lack of real ambition among many young people. I'd far rather see BGT, X-Factor, Big Brother et al banned than sexy music.

GypsyMoth · 06/06/2011 11:02

i agree....thats what you get with watching the BGT crap!!

JBellingham · 06/06/2011 15:43

Stop your kids watching that brain dead programme, the IQ points they save will be of benefit in later life.

PaperView · 06/06/2011 15:52

Just don't buy it/turn the radio over/leave the shop that it is playing in.

Ralph1234 · 08/06/2011 20:49

I agree about Nicole Scherzingers appearence on Britains Got Talent -this is a family show and then for her to sing a song with such sexual references makes me feels sad - where are the healthy female role models on TV / media for our kids ?

wrongdecade · 10/06/2011 14:25

Ithink perhaps like a lyric watershed may be a better idea

reikizen · 10/06/2011 14:30

Whilst it is of course inappropriate to wish to ban sexually explicit music, I am extremely concerned about the pornografication of music videos and certainly if this kind of shit is on a 'family show' (obviously a shit family show that my family doesn't watch) it sends a message to kids about what women should be aspiring to.

NancysNews · 11/06/2011 09:36

These songs with erxplicit words should be banned from the radio initially (remember when Frankie goes to Hollywoods - relax - was banned? Nowadays the words are so much more explicit and my two girls aged 9 and 12 are happily singing along to words like ' lets have some nice sex' (the lazy song) and rihannahs awful song about loving the smell of sex!! God these are ten times worse than relax dont do it - i never even knew what it meant!!! And how they look on tv, well i dont actually have one so the girls at least dont have to be forced to see women looking and behaving like prostitutes, and another thing how can something like the 'slut' walk be helpful in all this!!!! Agggh its enough to make you scream and I consider myself a pretty liberal person!!!

DirtyMartini · 11/06/2011 09:41

I would be catsbummouth about the lyrics on a show that courts a family audience early in the evening; but an actual ban? No, not sensible or desirable.

Watershed is quite a good suggestion though. Is that something that's ever been suggested anywhere in a serious way? Wondering if it would be workable. Can't see why not tbh.

I don't really think that it's something for an MN campaign, though.

purepurple · 11/06/2011 09:50

NO!
I disagree with any ban on musical integrity, even if it is music for commercial reasons.

ScarlettIsWalking · 11/06/2011 09:54

I agree with you but you may have as much luck banning The Beatles

sophis · 13/06/2011 18:48

hi yeah i saw it on britains got talent but found it uncofortable to watch to be honest and had sky plussed it so fast forwarded over it but yeah i did think god this is awful, its a family show and i thought of all the premature sexualisation of children campaigning going on and that iv been involved with. im glad someone else noticed that on britains got talent. i just have no idea where to start with music. firstly i think they should consider whats appropriate and whats not for a family show-that would help, put things in the right places like it would have been ok on the graham norton show but perhaps find a less sexual song or artist for family shows.

the whole industry is highly sexualised now, i dont know if we can turn back the clock or just protect children from it. i dont think it will change but where possible it should be out of childrens view. it would be great if this culture did tone things down a bit though and just make it easier for parents, somehow i think its unlikely although i do agree with you.
