BBC programme on 'sexualisation'

Did anyone see this? The programme suggested there was a strong element of moral panic surroundng the issue, eg in reality 'sexualised' clothing for kids is (a) quite hard to find in the first place and (b) often means something totally different to the children who wear it than to their parents.

They did uncover things that were genuinely concerning but the main message at the end was that parents should talk about these things with their kids and try to understand their viewpoint (rather than demanding that the government jump in & solve the perceived problem for them)

While some very valid concerns were raised and I think most parents do worry about the issues highlighted, we found it quite ridiculous, for example they showed many items that had been "sexualised" including a girl's top that simply had a girl's face on? Nothing sexual about it! Confused

Wasn't very good was it.
Quite weak and flabby programme. Didn't really get under the skin of what it means to be a child growing up in such a sexualised culture - how it affects a child's self image and the relationships they have / envisage to have with the opposite sex. Seemed to be saying there is a moral panic when the evidence seems to be shouting loud and clear - have you seen the latest Miley Cirus video / heard the latest Britney Spears song...heard the news about the street grooming of pubescent children.
Great opportunity wasted I think.

all that proved was that they couldn't find much sexualised clothing on a random trip down the high street. Someone who has been worried about it for a while would be able to take them to it easily.

I didn't think it gave much of a strong argument tbh.

I thought the 15 year old girl who was being told my her mum not to wear a particular outfit/have her hair done a certain way was ridiculous, when I was 15 I did what I wanted on those fronts, that's nothing new!

And surely if you didn't want your kids to wear an outfit/short skirt you don't buy it in the first place Confused

I only caught a bit of it, and must say that the t-shirt WiiUnfit mentions I couldn't see any problem with, but the justification for padded bras being non-sexualised did strike me as very weak.
