Advice needed on Feeding Pillow

Best pillow for both breast AND bottle feeding and is a pillow really essential for tandem feeding twins? (I have fed 2 singleton babies without ever using a pillow)

ez to nurse twins foam (not inflatable) was brill for us - but we didn't bottlefeed so I don't know about that. Was essential for me - backache and loads of hassle trying to get pillows/cushions right for 2 at a time!!

I've found it simply essential in order to breastfeed them both at once. Used a cheap (non-twin) Boots inflatable one at first, by six months, they were too big for it, and it didn't work so well any more. Now I use a V-shaped pillow my mother-in-law found me, which is lovely (both her and the pillow are lovely).

I had an ez to nurse one and hated it, felt like prison (it was the inflatable one) and sold it on immediately. I used an arrangement of cushions inc a v pillow which I much preferred. I did use pillow/s with two singletons though first. I think those ones with the small polystyrene beads are perfect, could squish them round into the right place. Only tried bottle feeding them together a few times and used bouncy chairs.

I found ez2 nurse twins pillow unhelpful. just like everyeone else here I found a v-pillow plus extra cushions best for b/f. The chicco relax and play bouncer best for bottle feeding (because it has an adjustable back height).

Rolled up muslins are perfect for supporting a bottle for one twin when feeding the other (tuck one end behind each shoulder with the middle under the bottle).

Just me then I liked that you could do up the relt and it wouldn't keep slipping - felt secure to me, not restrictive.

I could not feed the DTs with a v pillow - they rolled off. As I said, the inflatable ez pillow isn't any good.

It's each to their own I suppose!

Can you try out any?

I've been using the foam EZ-2-nurse pillow for the last year, and the inflatable one when travelling, but it has now developed a puncture. I couldn't cope with them on pillows, and find the security of the waist strap very comforting. I have to say that before the twins came it just seemed ludicrous, but tandem breastfeeding isn't a very subtle activity either.

Now that DTs are a year old, we don't need the pillow, but it does remove some of the rowdiness.

We've only used it a couple of times for bottlefeeding, as I forgot it could be used like that. DH did most of the bottlefeeding, and he is too fat to use the pillow! :-)

I never thought to try the foam version of EZ2...the inflatable one was a bit like trying to feed on a bouncy castle

kathryn2804 · 06/07/2010 18:19

I loved the EZ-2-Nurse pillow. I probably would have stopped breastfeeding without it! It was great because you can let go and feed hands free. They would always roll off any other pillow combination so I had to hang on to them for the entire feed!

Hawever, they're expensive, so definitely buy off ebay or TAMBA For Sale forum if you're a member

I had been considering the EZ-2 Nurse foam pillow, but was put off because it looked so constrictive and also by the price. The feeding chair in the nursery also has arms which have been sufficient for support with my other 2 children, but as it is a smallish chair (it's just a wicker armchair - not a fancy feeding chair) I was concerned that the pillow wouldn't actually fit, esp as it's quite firm.

Anyway, I have decided to buy nothing for now and see how things go. I'll use some of the plethora of pillows we have here initially if I need to and then if I feel I really need something else I will maybe buy a V-shaped cushion. I'm just not convinced the EZ-2 Nurse one would work or be worth the money.

Thanks for all your replies.

The good thing I found with the EZ foam pillow is that it is shaped so the sides slope downwards towards you - so the babies roll the correct way and they are less likely to fall off.

I used the pillow on a feeding chair at my mum's house, but to be honest it's not great - not because the pillow doesn't fit, but you need to think of the logistics of feeding two at the same time.

Unless there will always be someone there to pass you the second baby and take away the second baby after feeding, a feeding chair doesn't work. You'll need a place to put baby 2 while you position baby 1, and then you need to be able to reach baby 2 (without tipping baby 1 off!) and put them on the cushion too. Try it with a couple of teddies or something and you'll get the idea of the problem! I guess if you could find something a suitable height to put next to the feeding chair that you could 'park' a baby on then that would be work.

For me, I fed (always sitting up and never lying down) on a sofa, purely because it meant there was a safe place to 'park' baby 2 while I sorted baby 1 out. We used a v-pillow as the 'parking spot' for baby 2. This worked until the babies were 6 months or so and started rolling, after that I fed them separately.

It went
Put on EZ pillow (it clips on so you can 'wear' it and then pick up the baby
Put Baby 2 in 'parking spot'
Pick up Baby 1
Sit down on feeding sofa next to 'parking spot'
Position Baby 1 on far side of 'parking spot'
Then pick up Baby 2 and position them.

That's ACE Bosoms! Thanks!

I love the parking description Bosums. So accurate! I did find that only a sofa would do, and as they got a little bigger I used their bouncy chairs as parking spaces too.

I had v pillow with 2 extra small cushions underneath each end. I often ended up laying one twin on top of another (they didn't mind!) which worked until they grew a bit

BosomsByTheSea · 07/07/2010 13:59

I also did the 'layered babies' for a while - until they discovered they could boot each other and after that it didn't last long!

Nowadays (nearly 10 months) they wrestle if I try to feed them together. That plus the added excitement of teeth and hair pulling in the mix means I now always feed them on their own!

Tandem feeding is great, by the way - and if you get the pillows right you even have your hands free to eat cake!
