Triplets & bed clothes!

Hi all

we have 14 month old triplets and ever since they came home, we put them to bed in sleeping bags. At the moment they just go to bed in babygrows due to the heat, however, when the weather next cools, we want to start using sheets etc.

Now I know this may sound daft, but how do you go about getting them used to sleeping with sheets and not getting the warmth from the sleeping bag? I am posting this on the multiples thread as I know you will all understand that with triplets (or twins etc), any change you make to their routine needs to be thought out and planned - especially when it involves sleep!

They go through the night from 1830 to 6 in the morning so we want to keep the disruption to them to a minimum! Do they just learn that to stay warm they stay beneath the sheet? Do you tuck their arms in or leave them out?

I hope that this query doesn't sound daft and that someone can give me some tips - prior to having the little ones I have never had any contact with babies and so am learning on the go (haven't broken one yet!)

Many thanks in anticipation.

Is there any particular reason you want them to sleep in sheets, rather than sleeping bags? My dd was in her gro-bag very happily until more than 3 yrs old.

They move alot and the sleeping bag gets all twisted round them and they get stuck!

DD1 is nearly 2, but i've given up the grobags as she gets out of them now and it's easier to tuck her back in with a blanket.
I have just started with sheets etc now while its so warm, so if she wriggles out, she won't get cold. Also, so she's used to them when the sides come off the cot and so she'll (maybe) learn to sleep with her head at the top of the bed.

Will probably do the same when my twins are older and make the transition over the summer/autumn rather than surprise them one night

i found with my boys that they learned to cover themselves back up when they got to about two and a half/three. till then they just wriggled out as they moved about so much i ntheir cots. I think I would suggest just putting them in very cozy fleecy pj's and go in and cover them up again before you go to bed at night, till they can do it themselves!

I used a duvet with ds2 from about 18m as he kept getting his arms stuck inside his grobag. It has never been a problem at all with keeping warm although I think he prefers to be quite cool as he's almost never underneath it when we check on him before going to bed.

Ikea do great, quite lightweight and cheap duvets.

I don't have triplets - or even twins! But I took my DS out of grobags for the same reson as you - he kept getting all twisted up!

Unfortunately he moves around a lot so sheets and duvets would be kicked off and he'd wake up if he got cold - disaster!

The solution was fleece sleepsuits so he stayed warm (and asleep) all night even when he kicked the covers off. Primark, Tesco, Asda or ebay do cheapie ones (as you may need 3!), you can also get them in Mothercare.

Shops don't tend to stock them till autumn/ winter though. Something like these..

get large enough sheets/duvets that you can tuck them in really well on three sides. and don't tuck them in with their head at the top of the bed but with their feet at the bottom.

I also second the warm pj's with socks if necessary.
