anyone tried twin reins?

Got 17 month olds starting to run in opposite directions. Are the ones specifically made for twins any better than just getting 2 sets of normal reins - or wrist straps? Didn't bother with any of this with DD1, but getting out with DTs is a little more complicated!
Thanks

I don't have twins but have just over a year between my two.

I used these www.littlelife.co.uk/html/toddler_daysacks/animal-ladybird.html and they loved them - it was easy to hold both handles in one hand too.

They still use the backpacks now, just without the rein bit.

tried reins once but only indoors - well in an art-gallery

they only lasted for about 10 minutes - but it did make sure they didn't touch any of the art-work!

bit scared of trying it outside though - so keen to hear from any others!

I was thinking about these too, Xena as my 2 are the same age and doing the same thing! I have 2 normal sets of reins which is fine when dp is around. I wouldn't use wrist straps, I think they'd just fall over! 1 of my twins is more of a runner than the other 1 so quite useful to have separate reins at the moment.
I read on TAMBA yesterday that the twin reins are useful because you can fasten 1 twin to you whilst getting the other out of the car etc which I would find v.useful when dropping them at nursery. It's just about impossible right now doing it.

no helpful advice, i've just come here to bow my head in respect to you ladies with twins! I've got a 20mth DS with his own idea of where we're going on a walk so the thought of having two with the same idea....

My girls are approaching 5 now but I do remember this stage well!

I tried a friends twins reins and found that (1) they got tangled around eachother and (2) the comments and looks you get from some people who don't approve of reins just escalated as it's hard not to be conspicious when you look like you are racing a pack of huskies!

I got two pairs of single reins and used them in quiet places ie walking down our road which is very quiet but does get cars unexpectedly shooting down it.

I think I found it generally easier the rest of the time to stay in enclosed spaces ie gated parks/toddler village halls or wait until a friend or DH could come with me.

It does get a lot easier I think when they get past two and can understand instructions/consequences better. Now at 4 it's lovely to be able to walk down a pavement with them knowing that even though I have to keep an eye on them they're not suddenly going to veer off into the road to look at a road marking/snail/leaf etc!

Xena...what did you decide?

My DTs are 17 months too and I had a very embarrassing park disaster recently - both went in opposite directions whilst DS1 was refusing to come down from the climbing frame. I'd stupidly left the pushchair in the car. Nobody helped...I was nearly in tears!

So I'm thinking reins but not sure whether twin or two singles.

I have twin reins and think they are great - mine tend to hold my hands as well when they are walking with me, so people don't notice the reins as much. I tried going out with two sets of ordinary reins and I just couldn't keep them safe - if I needed to pick one up, then I had to hold the other set of reins between my knees. We live right on a main road, so to have any chance of oging out for a walk rather than the double buggy I think twin reins are great.

Got them here

thanks for the link curly, I think I might have to invest as I could keep them safe whilst taking them into nursery. Tried this morning with dd in her reins whilst taking ds out of the car but between the knees doesn't work! I love the photo of the twins walking along in such a docile manner. Hah!
Snowplop, poor you - nobody does help do they? They just stare at you (which makes me want to stick my tongue out). I've got older ds as well (3.4) so he often needs help. I'm not even going in the cul de sac right outside my house as they take turns sprinting down driveways.
I'm thinking of taking as a single buggy to the park next time and whoever is misbehaving goes in it!
