Talk to me about having two sets of twins...

Had my 12 week scan today and it is TWINS AGAIN! Am due end of September and my boys turn 3 in early August. Does that sound like a manageable age gap? The boys still have very little common sense at the moment so still using the buggy a lot with them if out and about without DH. I sense that they will need to grow up very fast if I'm to have any chance of getting out and about when the new babies arrive. Hold my hand and tell me it will all be fine...

Congratulations

There's a women near me with 2 sets of twins. I don't know her well, but she walks upright, wears her coat the right way round and appears normal .

I hope someone with relevant experience comes along soon.

Ah, thanks for replying Rolf - that made me laugh!

Congratualtions

There is woman who lives near me who I pass quite often in my car. She pushes her older twins (I think they are about 2), and the other two are in a sling! Her back must really ache, but she is always smiling.

Wow congrats bellababy! You must be gobsmacked. There's 3 years between my older two (now 6 & 3) and it works really well. In fact both of them grew up a lot between 2ish and 3, makes a huge difference. 6 months is a long time. What a lovely close knit bunch of children you'll have I have 4 under 6 and they're getting quite lovely together, don't worry it will all be fine!

bellabelly · 11/03/2010 16:15

Thanks guys, this is all very reassuring . Am not sure my bad back could cope with a double sling but it might be worth a try in the very early days when they are still teeny tiny. Accessorizequeen - that's really good to know about the age gap - you are right, 6 months does give them lots of time to develop a bit more common sense, doesn't it? You ahve made me feel loads more optimistic about the practical side of it all!

My cousin-in-law has 2 sets of twins- her older ones were about 5 when the younger ones arrived but she also had a singleton in the middle. Not sure how she coped but she did have an aupair and a maternity nurse or something like that!!

CONGRATULATIONS I am a tiny weeny bit and I have/had 3 under 3, though all singletons!

accessorizequeen · 11/03/2010 20:19

I'm amazed how much my 3yo has changed since last summer (and he's no.2, they still surprise me). Loads more common sense, way more able to entertain himself (and twins hopefully more so). Also rarely needs/wants buggy now, I've been building up his stamina!
It's going to be hard work though, are you going to have some help bella? Are the boys starting/at nursery?

oooggs · 11/03/2010 20:25

fantasic bellabelly = Idobelieveinfaires has two sets of twins (I hope I have the right poster name) and tripletsandtwins had triplets then twins

how lovely you can use all your twin stuff again

bellabelly · 15/03/2010 18:54

Ooh, just seen your post oooggs - thank you! I will seek them out and beg ask them for top tips!

We do still have most of the big twin stuff - cots, buggy etc - but sadly I gave away all of the beautiful 0-12 month cute-as-a-button stuff. [kicks self] We weren't really planning to have any more...

hi! Congratulations! I have 2 sets..and already had 4 singletons. The older twins (b-b) were 3 when younger set were born and they just seemed to grow up when i bought the new twins home...perhaps them actually seeing babies in the house made this happen. They were 2 great little helpers and loved their new roles. Remeber to talk to them loads about the new twins coming. Good luck and ask away!

bellabelly · 15/04/2010 23:13

Oh hi, idobelieveinfairies - just seen your post, thank you so much for replying! That really does make me feel better, my boys will have just turned 3 when new babies arrive, so same age gap as your two sets. I have started talking about the 2 new babies but it's really hard to gauge how much they understand - not great talkers yet!

Apart from logistical problems which will pretty much go away as the children get older, I suppose I'm most worried about having enough time/attention for all of them - that was something I struggled with a bit last time around, it always seemed like my friends with singletons had so much more time for just being with their babies, having a cuddle or whatever, while I always seemed to be doing a juggling act. Do you know what I mean?

I do know what you mean..and it will be tricky at first when your 2nd set are born to have a bit of one to one time with the older children. But it will happen, even if you get just 10 mins a day with them that will be fine!

Remember also that bath times, nappy change times etc everyone can be involved. I am sure your boys will love it and be very proud!

Just think of the social skills they will all have though..they will be used to having other children around them and they will be able to cope with that so well. All of mine have fitted straight in at nurserys and school and the teachers have always told me how they are so helpful...they work amazing in groups. They consider everyone elses feelings, they are very placid and patient. Keep remembering the positives in having twins and a big family.

Keep in touch.

Can I just say to all the parent of multiples I dont know how you do it and to those who have gone on to have another set of mutiplies....WOW..you guys are amazing!

Rolf.,...that made both DP and I ROFL!

LoveMyGirls · 17/04/2010 22:20

I don't have twins, I'm a childminder and often have 4-6 children, I've looked at these before and thought you might find the links useful this look amazing, pricey though

this one at least your 3 yr olds could take it in turns when tired and it's a lot more affordable

Good Luck!

onadietcokebreak · 17/04/2010 22:24

Blimey that really is a bus isnt it?!

bellabelly · 23/04/2010 23:40

Lovemygirls, thanks for the links - that first one is amazing! Needs to be for the price tag though... The second one is indeed much more affordable but the first one has the wow factor
