Tips to get twin 2 to turn

Hi, have just found out at 32 weeks that twin 1 is head down but twin 2 is breech. Am slightly freaked out by what this may mean for labour.

Does anyone know/have any experience of whether it is worth trying the things they suggest for getting one baby to turn? I don't want to end up with both of them the wrong way up?!!

Thanks

I think at this stage of the pregnancy, with two of them, it is unlikely twin 2 will have the space to turn round. I had the same problem and had to have a caesarean at 37 weeks. It was all fine and I was up and about the next day, nowhere near as painful as I thought it would be.

How exciting, you lucky thing! Are these your first?

Try not to worry too much yet. They can still turn lots, even though you would think there isn't much space with two of them in there! Also, if the presenting twin is head down, you should be able to have a vaginal delivery in any case.

My twin 1 actually turned breech in the last fortnight (36-7 weeks) so it is still early days.

Do make sure the sonographers are absolutely certain of position too, it seems that it can be hard to tell with twins, and they got mine wrong!

Good luck!

Thanks, yes these are my first babies. I was just a bit freaked yesterday as the consultant said that if I tried to have them vaginally there was a good chance the second one might have to be delivered by emergency c-section (and he was talking about being knocked out completely for this). I know its a luck thing but really don't want to have one vaginally and the second by section, especially if that section is really traumatic. Haven't been at all worried up until now but I imagine everyone gets worried as d-day approaches...

I know exactly how you feel, I felt the same.

I opted for an elective in the end. It might be worth you posting on the regular twin mum threads, as you will get more experiences on there. They are a friendly bunch here

Crikey, both of mine are breech and there is no option for elective CS for me! I would have to find another consultant that is willing to refer me for that as mine wont refer for breech presentation.

Personally, a CS is a last resort for me anyway as I have had one before and the recovery is horrendous.

I'm trying to spend time on my hands and knees and doing some of the stuff recommended on the SpinningBabies website but I'm being realistic about the chance that they both may well stay breech but hey-ho, bum first or head first, as long as they come out OK I don't really mind.

I wouldn't worry about twin 2 being breech at the moment, even if he doesn't turn after twin 1 is delivered you prob wont have much trouble delivering him as twin 1 has 'cleared the way' somewhat.

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure they can turn the second twin after first twin is delivered. Thinks this involves having an epidural, but that would be better anyway if there's a serious risk of c-section as then you won't have to have a general. Worth talking to your consultant next time I think! Take a long list of Qs

dont worry, i had exactly the same as you. in labour After first twin came, no 2 turned around all by herself and came out 15minutes later, if your twin 2 doesnt , theres no concerns of delivering breach as the ead and shoulders of twin 1 have fit through, so will twin 2, no assistance needed, (this was my 2nd pregnancy tho) Good luck!!

It's interesting that your consultant said that. I saw 3 over my pregnancy and none of them was worried about the presentation of twin 2, their main concern was number one. They were all happy for me to have a vaginal birth with a breech second twin. Maybe see what another consultant says? See if you can get actual figures and statistics for how many women have a vaginal/cs birth when they have cephalic/breech twins.

When it comes to twins it seems anything can happen. My t2 was cephalic for a while and then turned back to breech when she was 34 weeks - I had no idea it happened and could not believe she had enough space at that time. She didn't turn around in labour, she stayed very stable and delivered very easily. (Just so you know it is possible). A friend of mine's t2 came shooting out breech before anyone had time to get their breath from the first birth.

Good luck with your decisions, I remember all the agonising decision making and it wasn't easy.
