I have been for my 12 weeks scan this morning to find I am carrying twins! I am overjoyed! Husband is to, but a bit shellshocked!

I am about to spend hours looking stuff up n the net, but wondered what everyone else's experience of a twin pregnancy was? How did you antenatal care differ from a single pregnancy, did you have natural birth, what can I expect, everything please?

LOL! Its a little hard to condense into one post

Firstly congratulations!!! It feels very, very special to be a mum of multiples and, although it is masses of work, you will always feel amazed at yourself! Took me 6 months to stop saying "OMG there are 2 babies" every time I walked into the room

My antenatal care was at the hospital (consultant led) rather than at my GPs surgery. You attend much more frequently and are kept a close eye on. You can expect many more scans (I had one every visit) and sometimes they run heart monitoring (a pad stuck on your tummy....one for each baby and one for you).

Its like sticking a pin in a dartboard blindfolded working out whether or not you will have a natural birth and at what stage. Personally, I had a natural (ish) birth (waters broken) just short of 41 weeks, but it varies hugely person to person. Some hospitals have a 37 week C-section policy for twins.

Having twins is truly magical. And can feel like the curse of the werewolves! For me, I always say its heaven and hell. Its very, very hard work but there is no other feeling in the world that comes close to knowing you have made two, gorgeous bundles. That feeling never goes.

We have a regular thread over here beginning "D'y ever wonder....." it started a long, long time ago and some of us have twins around the same age. Nowadays, it has a bit of everything on it....some folks have new babies, some are pregnant, some have older twins. We have triplets, illness, worries and a giggle. Its a thread that goes up and down and, to the outsider, it can look like we all know each other and we're not talking twins. Rest assured, not many of us have met and the moment anybody wants to talk twins, we do!

Jump on, ask away and know that whatever is going on with you and twins, we will be there.

this is our latest thread we can talk a lot so keep shouting and someone will answer I'll tell them you're coming and stick the kettle on.

Congratulations!! My twins are 3 mths and that 12 weeks scan date will always be one of my fondest memories.

This thread is also useful if you haven't already seen it.

hi, congratulations!
Think it all depends on the type of twins you're having as to how much monitoring etc you get- i had 2x sacs & 2x placentas so didn't get much more monitoring than i had with my dd1, just a scan & consultant appt monthly from 28wks & the usual midwife appts.(although that might have just been my experience!)
c/section was booked for 38 wks as both were breach throughout the pregnancy but only made it to 35 wks as went into labour & had emergency c/section.

My pregnancy wasn't too different from my 1st but things happened alot earlier- starting to show, feeling the 1st kicks, struggling to turn in bed & getting far too big for my maternity clothes (spent the last couple of wks in pj's or my partners jumpers!). Needing to pee constantly as well - having the weight & movement of 2 babies on your bladder is a pain!

My advice would be to get things done alot earlier than you'd planned when you thought it was just 1- my twins are 2months & still have a half finished nursery as i thought i'd plenty of time & things took longer to complete as i had such a huge bump!
i'd aimed to be ready by 7 months but had just returned to work after having dd & having her running around made it difficult & i was so tired i couldn't even make a decision on a colour!

But whatever your pregnancy throws at you the 2 babies at the end make it all bearable. As soon as i saw my 2 i forgot what they'd put me through & they are amazing!
