Anyone else have very, very tiny babies?

My twins were born yesterday at 2 days short of 24 weeks, weighing 1.3lb and 1.5lb. I've had premature babies before but not this small or early.
Not really sure what I want to get from this post, maybe just someone telling me that it can all actually be fine.
My head is all over the place at the moment and I can hardly think.

My son was born at 32+6 and just over 4lb. I know thats nowhere near as tiny as yours, but I did virtually live at the hospital, juggling a 2yr old dd, and saw/heard it all. Even now, I cant stand the beep from the tills at the supemarket- it takes me back to SCBU!

Stay strong (stupd advice I know), but I just kept telling myself that as far as the babies are concerned they are still not born yet, they have no idea, and the doctors and nurses are amazing.

In the whole time I was visiting scbu, there were two other families with twins like yours, and they all did great.

Good luck!

WorzselMummage · 29/01/2010 21:32

My Ds was because of Pprom too, i've just remembered one of your other posts x

Geepers · 29/01/2010 21:33

Thanks
No definate names yet, maybe Harry and Oliver.
Not our first children no. Long, complicated obstetric history but we have experienced NICU before but with babies over double this weight. They just look so pathetic and lifeless.

Worzsel I remember your thread from pregnancy and beyond. It's lovely to know your little man is thriving and doing well. Was he ventilated for long?

I also have no info, but would like to say congratulations, and that i look after twin boys also called harry and oliver, they were born premature, and now they are very happy active 2 year olds.

WorzselMummage · 29/01/2010 21:45

He was never venitilated despite predictions of pulmonary hypoplasia, he was on cpap for 6 weeks or so and has come out of it completly unscathed, a bit of a miracle really

23 weekers do look pathetic and lifeless but they are not, they are amazing, such stong little beings I would expect they will be ventiliated for a good while. Did you manage to get the steroids ?

Harry and Oliver are lovely names

JohnWorfs DD was a 24 weeker i think. She has some wonderful pictures on the profile page

Were you other DTs 28 weekers ?

Did you manage to get the steriods in

WorzselMummage · 29/01/2010 21:59

I am going to bed now Geepers, I hope you have a good night.

If you come over to Bliss I've got the same name

WorzselMummage · 30/01/2010 14:12

How are things today Geepers ?

lou031205 · 30/01/2010 14:50

Geepers, I used to work on SCBU, and don't you believe they are pathetic and lifeless! Some of our 24 weekers were the naughtiest, determinedly pulling their breathing tubes out, or their feeding tubes.

They will stay naked for a while yet, & they probably won't even use nappies until they are a bit bigger.

You will see big changes even in the days, let alone weeks, as their skin loses some of it's redness and they start to fatten up.

Try to eat well & rest, too - they need a strong, healthy mummy. Congratulations, btw.

How are things Geepers ?

Geepers · 03/02/2010 13:33

Sorry, I've been staying at the hospital with babies so haven't been online. I've just popped home to collect more clothes before heading back.
If you want to keep updated my DH and I are keeping a blog for friends and family to check how we are doing www.twinsjoeandharry.blogspot.com so you are welcome to read it.

I was born at 27 weeks almost 28 years ago.... imagine the advances in neonatal care since then. I'm sure your babies are in very capable hands. What little miracles! Try not to stress and worry - your babies need you to be calm and strong. Congratulations

grannyoftwinboys · 16/03/2010 15:51

Many congratulations on the birth of your twin boys. How I wish I'd seen your posts earlier and been able to send you some support sooner. Our miracle boys were born just a little further along than yours but not much heavier and we spent many many hours, days and weeks in nicu scbu etc before they were allowed home. The pics of your tiddlers brought back so many memories - and yes we too fell asleep watching and talking to incubators! In those early days and weeks every night I prayed to whatever god might be listening for just one more day with our precious boys and every morning they were still with us. Days turned to weeks - with setbacks and scares but our boys kept on fighting to stay with us - weeks turned to months and the scary times got less - and suddenly months turned into years and we've now got two happy, healthy, full of fun and full of mischief 3-year olds. Never give up - keep telling your beautiful boys what a great life you've got planned for them. Don't beat yourself up if sometimes it all seems too hard and too exhausting - you're allowed to be human! Just rope in all your family and friends to share the load. Teeny tiny twins DO survive and thrive - and with all my heart I pray that in a few short years your boys will be where our boys are now.
