Well both DTs struggled in the beginning and they were concerned about Lily in the beginning but the gaviscon seems to be helping with her weight gain now but she is still off the bottom of the chart (born on 2nd centile). Dylan was born just below 25th, didn't drop as quick but slow to gain and has now found a centile between 2nd and 0.4th... they think doc might diagnose FTT. Don't understand why they weren't concerned when he was not following a line but are now. I think he has silent reflux and mum (doc) says try some gaviscon to see this week. His weight gain is not exactly poor (but different each week) as he has gained 1lb 1/2oz in the last 3 weeks. I think they are weighing too often (weekly) and worrying too easily. Feel like they are pushing for formula. Mum thinks 1 bottle might be a good idea as she feels they should both be climbing the centiles rather than following.

Hahaha, doesn't that make you more experienced though?

curiositykilledhaskittens · 14/01/2010 16:58

They won't let me not weigh them, they insist on coming to the house.

rubes - sounds like my approach to parenting! Didn't know reins and playpens weren't allowed! I know weaning pre 26 weeks and sleep training is not allowed!

Curio, mine are different to yours as are 7 weeks corrected but are following the centiles they were born on as far as I can see. dt1 had gained 1 lb 6 oz in 3 weeks but is ffed and is a bit sickly (not sure if this constitutes reflux tbh). They should not be weighing weekly either - even the notes in the red book say that this is too much, in fact, I was saying how much better three weekly weigh ins are to my HV yesterday and she said that they actively discourage people from weekly weigh ins these days because you can't see the progress so well.

bagpuss · 14/01/2010 17:09

Rubes, I had a friend with twins who were the same age as ds1. Most of MN would be at some of the stuff she and I did with our dcs back then yet I am still following her lead with my dts .

Curio, mine come out to the house too but you can refuse to see them you know. Bah to the nanny state!

HarrogateMum · 14/01/2010 17:17

Rubes, I did the pin thing and it landed on Harrogate, who'd have thought it eh?

shabbapinkfrog · 14/01/2010 17:18

curio tell them to piss off go away! Can you tell what kind of a mood I am in

curiositykilledhaskittens · 14/01/2010 17:18

they wanted to weigh weekly in the beginning because they are twins, wish I had never agreed. It was helpful while I sorted out my supply but I'm not sure how I can make them go up centiles. When I was force feeding more often than they wanted was when they dropped centiles (think they got too much foremilk from snacking) and now they are both following a line and having several poos/loads of wees and hitting developmental milestones early if anything.

Hi all... curio tell them to piss off. If both your Dts are gaining weight, even if it is slow, and you feel they are healthy, then sod the centiles and the growth charts. You know those charts are based on FF and BF babies so are not particularly accurate. E was off the bottom of the chart for ages and only gained 1-3oz or so a week for ages, but as long as she didn't lose, was pooing and weeing and seemed happy, then I didn't worry. Obviously if your instinct is telling you there may be something wrong, then follow the instinct and do't be too precious about exclusive BFing. It is not a crime to give them formula. But if you feel the BFing is doing the job then stick to your guns. Could you give them a feed in the night for a while? It seems like going backwards I know, but they will go 8hrs without a feed won't they, which is a long time at that age, and maybe they just don't realise they are hungry and sleep through it!?

neenz · 14/01/2010 17:25

My Dts didn't climb the growth charts till I started weaning, for as long as they were BF'd they just stayed right at the bottom

curiositykilledhaskittens · 14/01/2010 17:35

I feel like they are confusing me. Until they came I thought they were doing beautifully. Now my head is full of 'If I don't give a bottle they might be verbally delayed e.t.c.' Feel like I am harming them with the breastfeeding Not sure they would take a feed in the night. Did try to wake them a couple of times but they were completely unrousable even forced the nipple in once only for the mouth to open and the nipple flop out! The weight has stabilised to follow a centile since they've been sleeping through too, just think it's a bit much to expect them to go up through centiles when they are BF twins. They'd probably start having food anyway at around 4 months (stands strong with rubes) and I'd rather that than give a bottle now...

Oh know that feeling! Feel so pathetic today, been dosed up on cocodamol on docs (mum's) orders and just coughing and sobbing sneezing all day! Lovely, lovely tomster, such a beautiful caring lad, what little shits? bastards? meanies!

They did end of term exams just before Christmas. Every exam he took he has got 3 or more grades higher in it than he was forecast to get. He has been asked by the Drama teacher to join the Drama club on Monday nights and if he attends regularly the school will reward him with a FREE trip to Alton Towers in March!!!!

So, once again, the truly horrible mean name calling has begun....and believe me the names are awful. One of his class mates, a girl he went to Primary school with messaged me on FB last night to tell me. She is a great girl, proper rough diamond. She tackled the four lads and threatened to kick them in the nuts beat them up if they didn't leave Tom alone. LOL Tom is in awe of her!

shabbapinkfrog · 14/01/2010 18:06

I've been 'talking' to Gareth and Matt all day and asking them to give Tom the courage to kick arse!!! He would only have to do it once and they would never come near him again!!

curiositykilledhaskittens · 14/01/2010 18:07

WOW!! Well done Tom and 'Boo' to the teachers for underestimating him! Girl sounds lovely. What a nice thing to do!

She is a treasure - has an awful family life that I know she will struggle to 'break the chain of' IYKWIM. She is becoming such a beautiful girl and I really hope she doesn't go down the 'Jeremy Kyle show route.' Tom burst out laughing and said 'OMG Mum Taylor is sooooooooooo scary and when she is mad she talks really, really quickly and says 'like' a lot!!'
