Hi, I am going to be a godmother to twins, one boy and one girl. I am after any ideas for original christening presents. However, I am not a pewter jug or china money box kind of person!

Does anyone have any christening presents they particularly enjoyed or that the children appreciated?

Hi, For my God daughter and Godson I got the complete Mr Men library which comes in a bus like box - obviously for the girl I got the complete little Miss library. Useful, but also a little bit special as it's a complete collection. I got them off Amazon. Thought it was a bit more interesting than a piggy bank or necklace that they'll have lost by the time they're old enough to wear it!

classic books - maybe Jungle Book for the boy and Alice or the Secret Garden for the girl

NOT moneyboxes, they will get loads

and tbh the Mr Men are bloody awful to read aloud.

I always try to give a tree (in a pot) for christening pressies as they grow with the child and it's very personal to be given a tree. You can lovely native trees that can either stay in the pot or be replanted.
Then you could choose one for each child so they had different types. We bought a rowan tree for a little boy we know.

Sticking with the book try choosing something with their name as a character. I have given 'James and the Giant peach', 'Jonah and the Whale' to boys with those names and what kid doesn't like a story about themselves!

You could always just go with something practical. One set of godparents have bought our twins the next size up of gro bag each -they did ask if we wanted something more "commemorative", but to be honest they have enough bits and bobs and I thought at least these would really get used. Ok so they won't have a thing to mark the day from those godparents when they are older but I've kept their cards which have really significant messages.

At their christening my daughter recieved a cross and chain and my son recieved a St Christopher and chain, they are beautiful keepsakes that they will wear when they are older

You could get them a star each!

here-I think it's such a lovely idea.

frakkinaround · 25/11/2009 01:55

Of course you don't actually buy them the star, it's just a symbolic thing.

You can name the stars after them too can't you?
