My id boys are now 6. They look quite different but they are still used to lots of people calling them the wrong name.

But to the point - we were on holiday a week or so ago and there was a full length mirror on the wall - but it didn't look like a mirror. DT1 looked in it (without realising it was a mirror) and asked what DT2 was doing in that room. He thought his reflection was his twin (obviously a bit slow on the uptake because they were wearing different clothes ).

It made me realise - we don't have a full length mirror at home - and they only ever get to see their faces in the mirror - never their whole body.

Interesting story! Mine are only two, but yesterday I asked twin one what her name was and she said her sister's name. We do have a full-length mirror, and the other day I walked in on twin one talking to herself in the mirror - saying "Are you Rebecca? Are you Rebecca?" and laughing to herself.......(For the purposes of this post, twin two's name is Rebecca )

I don't have twins but my best friends from school are identical twins. I used to love looking at their childhood pictures with them as they could never remember which one was which, even at a fancy dress party when they wore completely different outfits.

mine do sometimes confuse early pictures of themselves. It will be interesting to see if this develops. Maybe at present they can remember the occasion and know which is which by what they were wearing or doing - but don't actually recognise which is which. When they get older they will have probably forgotten the occasion.

It is interesting because their brother (18 months older) never gets them wrong - even in photos. He obviously knows the subtle signs that they are missing themselves. I must admit to occasionally not knowing which is which in old photos of them .

I wonder if they are better at recognising their twin rather than themselves ?

Minaloy - it is fascinating isn't it ? I wonder if she was playing a game with herself or if she genuinely thought it might be her sister ?

My boys are 4 and still haven't realised that they look very alike. They sometimes get it wrong looking at photos, and get very fed up when people can't tell who is who, but the penny really hasn't dropped yet re. the ID twin thing. Which is lovely - want to postpone it for as long as possible. One of them sometimes says he wants to be his brother though, which is kind of ...

I reckon that she was playing - hence the laughter!

Mine are 4 and can tell themselves in mirrors and mostly in recent pics, but earlier pics they have no idea. Come to think of it I have trouble sometimes too!

They both understand that they're 'identical' and that some people have trouble telling which is which. They have no problem with it and findit fascinating when I tell them all about the egg splitting etc. They just view thamselves as very lucky to have a twin, and that not everyone else is as lucky

My DTDs (8 today) don't think they look alike. They don't understand why people have problems.

Liek your DS DD3 knows exactly who is who by sight and by voice every time and always has. The only exception is if DTD2 wears pink which v v v raerly happens.
