Can I ask you physical recovery question after twin birth?

Hi ya,

I am nearly 5 months post birth (em C-section). I feel like I have recovered from the surgery but not so much from childbirth. For example my lower abdomen is still quite tender and I don't like lying on my belly (even for a massage). Also it is quite tender when pressed. My ribs as well as pelvic bones hurt a little. None of this is unbearable that I need pain meds. But it is annoying and I am wondering if I am a slow healer or is this just twin pregnancy. Any comments? Should I be seeing an osteopath.

Hi, my body has never recovered!!!!!!

Seriously, my body took a long while to feel ok. I remember walking hunched over for a long time....it was like a knee jerk reaction to having been made to be poker straight to accommodate my big tum! I still work on better posture even though I used to dance and had beautiful posture.

And ribs - owwww! I had DT2 to thank for that, he wedged himself under my ribs and they stuck out at a hell of an angle most of my pregnancy. They felt tender for ages. I kept saying to my DP that I must book a visit to his chiropractor but life got busy and I never did. I don't think it would do any harm whatsoever to get checked over to see that everything went back to roughly where it should be, but, I reckon its probably to be expected. Are you doing any exercise? I got a little too busy for the abdominals the physio recommended but I'm trying to do them now (4.5 years on!).

To be honest I would see someone to be on the safe side. As we have worked out I don't think there is more than a few days between our twins and I do have proper feeling in my tummy, and can lie on my front etc etc.

Don't you find though that everytime you mention something medical to a medical professional its because of the twin pregnancy?

"oh doctor my dog has just bitten my foot off..."
"don't worry Mrs PBH, its because of the twin pregnancy, come and see me in 30 years if it hasn't gone away!!!!!!!!!)

Anyway back to question - just get yourself checked out, will do no harm love!

I have 3 metal pins in my hip from an operation when I was a baby and found my first pregnancy and birth quite difficult, although not unbearable. I saw an osteopath throughout my twin pregnancy and after my (planned) c section and am sure that it is thanks to him that the pregnancy was relatively easy and not hideously uncomfortable and that I recovered easily and fairly quickly. I would highly recommend seeing an osteopath.

There are of course other areas that have never recovered - my waistline, my thighs and my boobs , but that's more down to my lack of willpower than anything else .

TWENTY SEVEN YEARS......AND COUNTING!!!!!

osteopath it is then. I would really like the tenderness to go away. Right now not worried about the beauty aspect of it. Just want to get back to my workout routine slowly.

anjlix, if you are anywhere near Kentish Town, I would highly recommend my osteopath (I drive half an hour from Southgate to see him!). Alternatively try here. It's a charity, specially for mothers and children, so you donate what you can afford.

Hope it helps!

I live in London so I get Kentish Town is too far esp I dont have a car. I might try one from the other link in Islington. I made another appt with some one near by. Lets see how that goes.
