My friend is 29 weeks with non id twins and about to be delivered due to pre-eclampsia. Feel like this is out of my knowledge area as mine were 36 weeks. Anyone's arrive at this time, were they okay and is there anything that I can do that would be helpful for them?

Mine were born at 28 weeks and were good weights. One twin was only on a ventilator for a few hours, the other a day or so.

There were lots of ups and downs while they were in hospital, problems with slow digestion, jaundice, blood transfusions, infections, lumbar punctures, lazy breathing etc.

Lots of ready meals, and juices that she can take into hospital would help, lifts to and from hospital, help with laundry/ironing and help with other children if she has any.

A nice book and pen or diary would be nice. It's amazing how quickly you forget the small steps of progress that baby's make while in intensive care and a diary is something positive to look back on when it's all over.

Hope it all goes well for her. Please update the thread with how they all are.

Just a word of warning about the bliss forums. I only had a quick look once or twice while the twins were very tiny and while everyone is great for advice, it can seem overwhelmingly negative to a new mum. This is mainly because people obviously need most support during bad times and less when things are going well, so the bad bits can seem disproportionate if you don't bear that in mind.

Hope that makes sense.

I know exactly where you are coming from. They are very good when you need to know things. I have tried to stay on so that its not just people who are new and overwhelmed by the whole thing trying to support each other but htose who've also come out the otherside

Thanks for your helpful replies. Tip about the pen and diary is a good one. The babies have arrived and are doing well but don't have any more news than that at the moment. Will update the thread when I know more.

My twins were born at 32 weeks but I have a friend who's were born at 28 and both are doing fab now... they had alot of ups & downs and one had to stay in GOSH for 6 months. The girls are nearly 2 and are really thriving.

Good idea about the ready made food... I lived on kfc & mcdonalds the whole time mine were in hospital and I really wish there has been someone to make me some food.

Would love to hear how they are doing too

Hi Hope the twins are continuing to do well. My twins arrived at 29+6 weeks and are now a month old. They are both doing really well but its been a bumpy road. They spent the first week on and off cpap and both were treated for chest infections. They are feeding quite well and I think they will be in for another 3 weeks or so.

I echo what geepers says about food/lifts/washing. Your friend will want to spend every minute at the hospital and its so frustrating when you cant keep on top of washing and cleaning.
