Hi all x
Had my 1st scan today and was totally shocked to find out that we are expecting twins
We already have DS 2.7 and baby wasnt exactly planned so the thought of 2 is rather scary lol

We live in a 2 bedroom house so need to move and our car isnt big enough for 3 carseats lol.

What tips and advice can you offer us as we havent got a clue what to expect!

TIA X

Just wanted to say congratulations! I have a dd 2.5 and am 23 weeks pregnant with boy/girl twins so empathise with shock and need to remodel/upgrade stuff!! No advice myself but these forums are really helpful as is the Tamba (multiple birth association one) and will keep you sane

TeaSleepFood · 11/02/2009 10:22

congratulations!
No specific advice to offer but twins are great! Always here to answer any questions as they arise or just provide tea and muffins as required.
Theres a few of us who regularly hold a coven chat over here (1st time ttrying to link not sure if it will work)
Basically on the thread starting with the phrase 'D'you ever...' and bring some treats with you!
Another one which is very supportive is the 'Anyone with twins etc who wants to hold our hands' thread.
Good luck!

have 5 month old twins and love it they are great you are lucky we also have a small house and manage fine shared a cot until they were 4 months and that gave us more time to sort things out dont need loads of extra things anyway congrats its exciting but scary i know how you feel but when they are born and share a cot in the hospital it is the cutest thing ever.

Congratulations. Yep having two at once is a little on the scary side and not particularly easy, but it's also lovely, there are special moments when you get a smile from both at the same time, or when they fall asleep touching heads.

Advice, organise some help, the first 3 or 4 weeks when the babies are bit sleepy seemed quite manageable for me, but as they began to wake up a bit everything suddenly became a struggle and I really needed help.

Homestart will give multiple mums help but only for two hours a week.

Get family involved if you can, get them to commit to coming round on a particular afternoon each week, so you know you can rely on them to be there at certain times.

Get a cleaner in for a couple of hours a week, if you can afford to.

Cook loads of meals to store in freezer for when you're too busy to cook - which will be most of the time.

Generally try to be organised before babies arrive, get buggy, cot, car seats etc you won't have any time afterwards.

All the best.

Congrats and well done, my G/B twins are 9weeks and we still getting over the shock!

Be prepared to get big (really big) and tired, lukily I had no morning sickness but I used to sleep for hours. Do your pelvic floors!

At the hospital just be relaxed and go with the flow. I had a birth plan but we all knew it was a joke and I would be doing as I was told. I had the first normaly and the second c-section at 37 weeks. I was scared but I trusted the MW and that helped. I talked through all the possible birth scenarios with the Dr's.

Get some help in. My mum came and lived with us the first month and his mum the second. We have an older daughter 19months.

Car seats - get whoever to put the ones you want into the back of your car so that you can see if they all fit. Halfords did this for us, even though we didn't buy any that day.

I kept the DD in nursery for the first month or so and that took off a lot of the pressure because I knew she was being looked after and we could sleep when we needed.

Don't be afraid to turn people away, particularly if you know they are going to be hard work. As much as you love friends and family you will need your energy for the babies. And the friends that turn up and do housework or make you lasagne are the very best.

I have a great second hand buggy and friends who have boys gave me lots of clothes. The girl is already supplied. I found out the sexes before they were born. I also went to the hospital with different sizes of babygrow because the weight from the scan is only an estimation.

Get organised, get your necessary equipment before they are born and be prepared to not see the outside world for a little while.

Get your shopping delivered! We buy loads of nappies when they are on special offer, you get through so many.

The first time they smile at you is just so amazing it takes your breath away. They have been hard work but holding them is just the very best.

Hope this helps

Thanks everyone x
Its just starting to sink in now lol, we have a scan today to find out if they are identical or not and I am really looking forward to seeing them again as I was in so much shock last time I didnt really take it in lol.

Is there any equipment that you would say is an essential?

I have been looking at prams and quite like the Jane powertwin pro, have any of you got this? ore is there another you would recommend?

KJTWINS · 14/02/2009 11:42

I have the out and about 360 nipper its excellent and a very narrow side by side double also bouncy seats are a godsend as later you can feed them both in them otherwise not really loads extra as mine were early we hadnt bought anything and my DP spent the whole week they were born and i was in hospital running round looking for things not a good idea but it meant that we only had the essentials. lots of luck though its hard but i wouldnt have it any other way.

TeaSleepFood · 16/02/2009 17:35

Hello again,
I have a mountain buggy and love it for all the walking in rough terrain we do (get me - I sound like Bruce Parry!). They are expensive but hold their resale value on ebay!

I also had childcare students help me on 6 week placements from the local college. They were 17 and a great help. Your local twins club should know or just find a college that does Btec or CACHE courses.

Wave at the babies for me!
