Newborn and twin toddlers - where does the newborn sit in the car?

We've just collected a newborn car seat from a friend.

Currently our twin DD's (3 and a bit) both sit in their car seats each one by a window in the back. Back seat seats three so we shoved the newborn seat in the seat between them whilst waiting for our new arrival.

Currently the baby seat is a receptacle for their books, bags, hats and any random rubbish they choose to chuck in it!

I imagine when it's just one adult and the three kids, the baby can go in the front passenger seat as we can disable the airbag.

But when we're all together? If I put DD's car seats next to eachother and baby on one side by the window they end up biffing eachother. If I put baby in between them, I worry it'll end up getting smothered by them!

Tired pregnant brain - what's the logival answer here?

Great idea Neerly!

But lets get the kids to shoulder the cost of the weddings and we'll spend all our ££ on huge mother of the bride and groom hats

Sweetkitty, thank you that's really reassuring. DH loves his girls and I think he'll be an excellent dad to a third as well.

Imagine the possibilities of twin grand kids too!

I had a newborn and 15 month old twins. Put dd next to the window, then twin 1 then twin 2 in a row. When strapped in they can't do anything to the baby not even poke(unless they've got extendable arms)as they're held back by the straps. DD was fine, never once was there a problem even on really long car journeys.

MilaMae - i think Hatty's DT's are in boosters now so just held in by the normal seat belts and thus free to 'roam' a bit more. Hence I will be seperating my two (one in front and one in back and me between the back one and baby).

Oh yes boosters entirely different!!!!!!!!

I knew I'd find a positive for such a small age gap one day

I currently have ds1 (4) in the middle and dts (19mths) either side

When baby born and ds1 at school (dts will be 22mths) I will have the baby in the front and dh in the back between dts.

Our air bag switches off

We are in the process of getting a 7 seater car but still wouldn't put new baby between monsters dts

Congratulations by the way
