Hi all, as a would be mother of id twins I would love to hear your stories of being pregnant/delivering/raising twins/multiples.

One of the fond moments was when I was on the Tube reading a twin book and heard 3 different people start talking about twins in general.

Or when I was at the hospital and MW assumed I had one baby. 'Lets check the baby's heartbeat'. I caught myself thinking 'No one has one baby at a time!'...LOL

Hiya Anjlix!

Did anyone elses twins use to try and latch onto eachothers heads when they were tiny babies? I used to find that so sweet and so funny!

My girls can fight like cat and dog but can be so loving. They spontaneously give eachother huge cuddles every now and then which is just gorgeous. And I go into their room in the morning and they are sitting together on one of their beds, with one "reading" a story to the other (pointing out the pictures).

On holiday they made my heart melt - we were walking down the middle of a deserted road and we'd let one of our girls run ahead a little. We could see any cars coming a mile off so knew they were safe and were easily near enough to grab them quickly if a car had started approaching in the distance.

Normally we are very strict about holding our hands on the road if theres lots of traffic about. One of our DD's got very distressed by her sister being allowed to run ahead and let out this plaintive "No! Emmy, my Emmy, my Emmy, come back". It was so heartbreaking, she just couldn't bear that something might happen to her and after they'd had a big day of fighting - it was so nice to see just how much she loved her sister.

Good luck with the pregnancy - I know what you mean about the scan. I'm just having one this time as you know and I find it really wierd when they say "baby" rather than "babies"!

Leoloopydoo not sure what thread you are talking about...

I thought it was early too...Lets see what the consultant says tomorrow.

MarsLady I hope I am prepared for the conniving double trouble. I suppose I will have no idea until I get there....

hattyyellow do post pics of your cute ones...that is if you ever have any time...! I am being selfish but it will take my mind of my big uncomfy belly.

I have so many lovely moments that when I stop and think about it properly I realise they outweigh the bad greatly!

I love seeing them together, wrapped around each other watching television, reading stories to one another. Their Reception teacher told me that they've only recently detangled themselves at school. They would be entwined on the carpet at school.

I remember croissant crumbs on their heads whilst I was breastfeeding. I remember them falling asleep on the playmat and being to exhausted to move them and so I covered them with a blanket, lay on the couch and slept. I remember never making it to school on time to pick up or drop off my other children. Double nuclear poos on leaving the house every time without fail. I remember 1 jumping from the top of a high slide whilst the other took off to be nearly decapitated by the swings at the park. I remember double kisses, squeezing two little bottoms and the sheer wonder that I grew two inside me.

I love my DTs dearly but if you were to search the MN archives there is many a thread where I've offered them up for adoption or offered to pop them into jiffy bags so that they could go in the post.

Its an amazing ride... but it really is worth it.

shabster · 29/10/2008 16:37

Awwwww Mars lovley post. Twins are wonderful.

Neenztwinz · 29/10/2008 21:06

LOL Mars at the toilet duck story!

Anji twins are great! Mine are six months old now and I never get bored of people admiring them and telling me how wonderful I am! Esp if you breastfeed, people think you are wonderwoman (which you are of course!)

Good luck!

inabadmoodbutbetternow · 30/10/2008 09:59

I can remember ringing the doctor in a panic as I realised I gave the same twin some pain relief twice, not remembering who I had already given it to! I also remember putting new tops on them one morning. One of them then put the Buy One Get One Free sticker on their shirt too! Very appropriate. They also asked me once, "will we always be twins or will be turn into one person?" ...

morningpaper · 30/10/2008 10:03

I've got one from a friend

She woke up one morning and went into her 4 y o twin daughter's bedroom.. and they had both COVERED their white bed sheets in blue biro drawings, totally COVERED them - it actually looked AMAZING, like something from the Saatchi gallery

she was not very happy though

anjlix · 30/10/2008 16:12

Hello all,

Lovely stories. Buy one get one free! LOL

Leoloopydoo The consultant does think that 35/36 weeks is too conservative for me unless there is a complication and so far everything is normal. He said he can book me for Christmas eve which is 37 weeks. yay!

Every one keep the cuteness pouring in. Thanks for sharing so much already. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I am sure most other twin mom's feel the same.

I must say I feel sorry for people with only one baby (well, most of the time) - it must be so dull!! Having two little faces beaming at you is so wonderful! (Even more wonderful is seeing two sleeping faces ).

jennyroper · 31/10/2008 07:25

I am so excited just reading your threads about having my twins. What a completely magical wonder to have 2 babies growing inside you. Am 33 weeks and can't believe I'm going to meet them in the next couple of months.
Neenztwins I LOVE your post claiming to be wonderwoman. I didn't breastfeed my son but I have the utmost respect and admiration for mamas who breastfeed, especially 2 hungry little chaps.

Neenztwinz · 31/10/2008 21:46

Not just me... everyone!

tkband3 · 31/10/2008 21:52

When I took my DTs for their first vaccinations, they both fell asleep in the buggy on the way there. I got one out of the buggy ready for the jabs, leaving the other one asleep in the buggy. As the nurse stuck the first needle into DT1's leg, DT2 (still asleep in the buggy) kicked the same leg in the air and started crying!!

MERLYPUSS · 31/10/2008 22:37

Twins rock!
Mine are 9 months. They are in separate cots but still hold hands through the bars.
Hold hands in their high chair (even though DT2 steals toast from DT1) and play really well together. They have real laughing fits with each other and makes you desperate to know what the 'in' joke is.

anjlix · 01/11/2008 14:02

hellow mummies, still enjoying reading your stories. I want my twins now! But I have some ways to go.

Also I have checked most of your pictures. That includes Pazza, Neenz, tkband3 and merlypuss. They are sooo cute....Please keep adding your stories. They are so heart warming.

Last night we went to a halloween party at Dh's work (boring and a complete waste of time, but....), one of the dts went for a run around the building - chased by dh -, the other was sitting playing alone, but got quite restless and started wandering around. when they saw each other again they both squealed, started running towards each other, hugged and kissed each other !

I think Leo thinks they are both called Leo !

teasleepfood · 02/11/2008 09:11

Hello Anjlix,
mine are 11 months old now. I love everything about them! The way they used to fall asleep on the feeding cushion after BF. The way DD wants everything that DS has . The way they stalk the cat as a pack only to give themselves away at the last minute with screams of giggles. The extra half hour when you go shopping as everyone goos at the twins (my DH has deployed a head-down-no-eye-contact approach) The way DD stands in the cot 'chatting' with DS every nap time. So far I don;t think there is a down side. I remember being scared the day before my C-section that they were going to send me home with 2 babies when I didn't even know what to do with 1! The fact is, you will. In fact I couldn't wait to leave the hospital and come home to be with my husband and our new family. Nobody but you (and other wonderful twins mums) knows what is right!

All you mums-to-be will be great!

anjlix · 02/11/2008 14:16

Leoloopydoo awwwww. But you are missing pictures of your lil ones from your page. please oblige!!

teasleepfood I have a grumpy old cat too who likes only my husband. I wonder how she will take to the kids! Or rather how the kids will treat her. Gosh the day dreaming . Any pics of your kiddos?

OP posts:
Egg · 02/11/2008 14:27

Gosh not really got any great stories to add (my DTs are nearly 10 months) but reading these does remind me how great twins are . Nobody believes mine are twins these days as they are so ridiculously unlike each other.

I have some (obviously) cute pics on my profile of mine Anjix. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

teasleepfood · 02/11/2008 16:03

OK, I have just put 2 pix on profile page. I'm sure your cat will be like ours and run a mile! I was so paranoid that I bought cat nets but he didn't go near them!

anjlix · 02/11/2008 22:36

Hello superwomen of the world,

I am amazed to see your stories still pouring. I thought this thread would be long dead. I hope I am not jinxing it now.

Egg you do win the prize for the pictures. And you looked awesome at 34 weeks!

teasleepfood I do not see a profile page for you...something not right?

OP posts:
Neenztwinz · 02/11/2008 22:46

Yes, I cannot believe you are 34 weeks PG in that pic Egg! i think I have one on my profile at similar stage...

Neenztwinz · 02/11/2008 22:47

Well I am 36 weeks in that one with about twice the bump!

teasleepfood · 03/11/2008 08:55

Ok, photos definately there now!

penona · 03/11/2008 09:05

I have 17mo DTs. They are in turns exasperating and lovely. Boy and girl. My funny moments are where they have started to become aware of each other more, laughing together about a mysterious joke, kissing each other in the bath, DD fetching DS shoes when we are going out, handing him a nappy when his bum stinks (!). A few months ago they started holding hands in the pushchair which was v cute indeed.

When they get out the bath and race around the bathroom, desperately trying to open the cupboards, 2 little bare bums .... so cute.

You will have an amazing time, but do make sure you get all the help you can. It's hard work! (But soooooooo much better than ever having to be pregnant again!)

MERLYPUSS · 03/11/2008 20:11

Also DT2 wanting medicine coz DT1 had it today. (I had to syringe apple juice for him so he wasnt left out). My boys hold hands in the pushchair too.
Twins really do rock. I am still getting stopped by people on my shopping trips and you do swell with pride when they comment how handsome they are.
