i was wondering my partner has told me he has a 95% chance of having twins, but is it that likely that I will actually conceive twins the first time we try for kids? x x

Why does he say that ? Does he come froma family of twins?

Non identical twins do have an increased probability - but it has to pass through the females, as they happen as a rsult of double ovulation. (So your dh may pass that susceptibility on to any of your offspring - but can't force you to double ovulate !)

If he comes from a line of identical twins, then I suppose there may be a genetic basis in a slight increase in the probability of the embryo splitting - but definitely not as high as 95%!

Left handers (don't know why) and older mothers (probably double ovulation, as ovualtion becomes less predictable )are also supposed to increase the odds - but only very slightly.

thats the thing i couldn't understand, he does come from a bid family that carries identical twins. he foung out the info from when he went to have a sperm test. is there any chance of conceiving twins even if its on my side (we have no twins in our family) x

Don't understand who his sperm analysis would equaite to a higher risk.

Foun this and \link{this}, both of which say the father has no influence on the probability of twins.

The first one explains why older mothers have a higher probability of identical twins - so different to what I thought.

Twins are meant to run through the female line but remember, there is always someone who has to be first in the line!

fraternal twins are the result of double ovulation - so nothing to do with the father.

Identical twins are supposed to be random, although some people think they are linked to the father .

... by the way, dh was an identical twin (twin was still born - probably becasue of undiagnosed twin to twin transfusion), I am an older mother, dh has had twins read into him palm and we are TTC!

I have a friend whose brothers, father, and grandfather were both identical twins - she is convinced it runs down the male line

It is fun having id twins (I was 36 when I had them) - so if you do end up having them think yourself lucky

At the moment I'd be grateful just to conceive! I'm 43 and no longer ovualting regularly. Had a miscarriage nearly 2 years ago.

Am no getting myself into the fertility "system" - blood test on friday and follow-up meeting with GP for referral, so hopefully should be onto Clomid sometime soon.
