Phil & Teds for twins? Or other lightweight double buggy.............

Hello, does anyone know if the Phil and Teds pushchair is suitable for twin babies? I've seen it described as such on a website but can't see how it works as the doubles pack thingy you buy to go with it seems to turn it into a baby and toddler pushchair, not two babies.

If not, can anyone recommend a really narrow and light double buggy? I live down a very steep narrow pathway, with steps and gates at various intervals, and most of the doubles I've looked at are too wide. Am starting to panic i won't be able to leave the house until the twins are walking!!

The phil and teds needs a car seat adaptor to make it suitable for twins- one baby is lying in the pushchair part and the other is in the car seat.

What sort of weight would you class as lightweight?

phraedd · 12/10/2008 17:29

this one is

The Phil and Ted Twins is the one that "my" current twins have (I am a doula and maternity nanny)

My last set of twins had the I Candy (and a mountain buggy) both were lovely

differentWitch, I hadn't thought about a car seat adaptor, that makes sense. By lightweight I mean ideally below about 11 kgs. A couple I have tried of the tandem type have been more like 14/15kg and I can't lift it up the ruddy steps - phraedd, that's perfect width-wise and I would prefer a side-by-side one but I think it would be too heavy....grrr

I've got a Baby Jogger City Mini Double and it's under 11kg, really easy to fold. It's quite narrow too. We find it great, our 2 week old dt's are v.comfy in it (with sheepskins). Which other doubles were you looking at that are too wide?

pollyblue · 13/10/2008 21:15

accessorizequeen, that looks like just the thing. The Nipper Out and About might be ok too - I do a lot of walking and we're in a rural spot so it needs to be quite a sturdy pushchair. I know the Phil and Teds will go up and down our awful path/gates/steps as a friend has one, another friend has a mothercare tandem and can't get it through the gate then down some of the steps - there's a sharp turn involved and it's too bulky to manoeover. I think the max width we could get away with is about 77cm.

perhaps it would be easier to move!

Think mountain buggy is 75cm wide

accessorizequeen · 13/10/2008 21:44

I have a mountain buggy double as well, I'd rate it more for rough terrain than the baby jogger. The baby jogger meant to be 73.5cms wide which is narrower than the MB but it actually doesn't fit through our front door even though the MB does .
MB is much much heavier than the nipper (I think the nipper is 11kg and the MB is nearly 18) but slightly narrower. I would have bought a nipper as it's a great buggy, really easy to push. But one advantage of the MB is that you can put carrycot(s) on which I find great with our dt's, they're nicely protected from the elements and I can gaze at them.

pollyblue · 13/10/2008 21:54

I do like the look of the MB but it's a bit out of our price range - I've just been looking into the Baby jogger city mini online and i think that might be the one, size and weight wise it's pretty close to the Phil and Teds but is side-by-side, which I'd prefer if it's possible.

thanks for all your help!

I would recommend the Nipper out n about as well. My two are 15 months apart but it has been great. I am still using it despite DS1 being nearly 4.

accessorizequeen · 13/10/2008 22:00

We bought our MB 2nd hand if that helps - only way we could afford it as they are extortionate. The Nipper's are quite affordable though, I think? The baby jogger doesn't have air tyres like the others though, although the suspension is pretty good, it won't do quite as well on rough terrain. It's only just come out so we bought one unseen, very pleased with it in all. Only minuses I could find is that the shopping basket is really hard to get into when the seats are fully reclined and the handlebar isn't adjustable. I think the hoods are absolutely fab to keep them out of the sun and prying eyes!

pollyblue · 13/10/2008 22:13

Yes, I like the look of the hoods, they look big enough to actually do something, unlike completely pointless hood on dd's pushchair.

I'll have a look on Ebay......

We bought ours from kiddieshop (babyjog.co.uk). I would NOT recommend them, absolutely rubbish communication!

pollyblue · 13/10/2008 22:31

haha we bought a car seat from them and they were a bit poo.....

i have 15 wk old twins and have the out n about 360 which is less than 10kgs and copes brillantly with both babies and my 4 yr old sitting on the foot plate! its only the width of a wheel chair and also lies almost flat for newborns - would 100% recommend!

oooggs · 14/10/2008 19:49

I can 2nd the out n about double nipper my dts are 18 mths and have used it since birth, it goes through my front door and ds1 used to ride on the hood when he was younger, it is great
