Secondary school admission and twins

Getting vaguely prematurely worried about secondary school for my boys, who've just gone into year 5. Loads of the schools round here seem oversubscribed so presumably it'll be hard for one to get in let alone both but I don't want them to go to different schools. Is there usually some provision for letting both twins into a school or is it quite possible that they could be allocated different schools?

I know the Secondary school that dd1 has just gone up to won't split up twins. I guess the only way to find out is to check each school's admission policy.

Are you within the catchment area of a school you are happy with? If so, I should think that they will both get in.

Ours make no allowance whatsoever, even at primary!!

REALLY Where do you live? That would be a nightmare wouldnt it?

A larage populous county in the southeast ... full of twins!

If you can get one in then next one in as waiting list priority as a sibling, but that's not the point really is it?

So how are you supposed to be at 2 schools with each twin at the same time then?? Thats unbelievable!! If one gets in the other should automatically get in as a sibling like different age children shouldnt they? Yet another unfair discrimination of twin families! My lea will increase the cohort in the case of twins or same year siblings.

Thanks for all the replies. So I will probably have to contact the schools/LEAs direct to find out, you think? I'm not really sure how it all works but we are on a borough boundary so will probably be applying to schools in at least 2 LEAs and the diversity of state schools- academy, voluntary aided, blah blah- round here is quite baffling. There doesn't seem to be a normal local authority run mixed comprehensive anywhere to be seen!

My twin Boys are in year six and we have been doing the rounds visiting local secondary schools and obviously there are clear favourites. I am absolutely dreading the news when it arrives that one Boy has been accepted into a certain school and the other has not. Have asked the question if twins get the same treatment as siblings, but have so far not got a clear answer.
Has anyone had this experience and is able to tell me how they dealt with it?
