Hello

Are there any twin mummies who have travelled really long haul (NZ or Oz) with twins?

I am keen to get any advice I can. Recommendations on airlines with good service and advice on what equipment to take to make for a smooth journey especially...

Thanks!

x

harrogatemum is in oz as we speak, though her dts are older than your, but she has done longhaul before I think - will point her your way when she's around - good luck!

We flew with Singapore airlines to Asia with twns and they were extremely helpful. Best of luck!

Hi mummykiwi - we have done Uk to Oz when DTs were 5 months old, Uk to Borneo when they were 18 months and just last week come back from UK to Oz again - they are now 3 and a half and there is DD who is 18 months in the mix as well!

Both times flying to Oz we went with Emirates because we were going to Brisbane and they do 3 7 hour flights with brief stops in Dubai and Singapore and it was nice to break it up a bit. When they were 5 months they slept a lot of the time - the trouble is you have the two bassinet seats in the middle and so there are inevitably two people in between you and your partner which depending on their outlook is either a good thing...or a nightmare - on one of our legs, a guy demanded to be moved because of us and our kids - just the fact that there was a bassinet in front of him wound him up I think! Emirates were really good though with the kids, DT2 got taken off to first class by one of the hostesses - ha, not somewhere I have ever set foot!!

Singapore Airlines to Borneo were also great - that time we bought one extra seat as they were older and I couldnt bear the thought of them on our laps for 16 hours.....so we had a side row with three seats and one bassinet which was really good as they just about still fitted into it so one was on the seat and one was in the bassinet.

Probably the hardest trip is the one we have just done - although I guess now there are 3 kids to consider! This time we flew with Emirates again - the DTs were fine, they watched the TVs or slept in their seats (now we take up a row of 4 in the middle) but DD was a nightmare - she had no seat and wanted to wander and when you are trying to eat your meal or help the DTs with theirs and you cant move and she is trying to escape - well, you can imagine!

Wow I've waffled on a lot - the sum of it is that its easier the younger they are!

hello kiwi mummy
i have travelled to nz and back to london 3 times with my son at 9 weeks, 1 yr and 20 mths old (I am pregnant with twins which is why i was reading yr thread). All I can say is 8 weeks old will be the easiest travelling you will ever do with your children!
Singapore airlines are, by far, the friendliest and mosdt helpful. Also there are only 3 seats in the middle so chances are they might give you all 3 seats plus the 2 bassinets if you are lucky.
take some milton tablets and washing up liquid in a small bottle and some clera plastic bags so you can wash and sterilise their bottles (if you are bottle feeding) halfway.
its really not that bad - you know it will end after 25 hours or so and you feel quite a sense of achievement!
Good luck

thanl you so. esp for the tips on sterilsing etc. i will be bfing them, but i usually give them one bottle a day. might be easier to skip that by the sounds. thanks jennyroper and harrogate mum
