Just found out I’m expecting twins!

I’m completely shocked, even though I had a nagging suspicion/instinct it might be twins.

I thought I was 6w 5d going in - Twin A measures 6w 6d and Twin B measures 6w 3d. Both have heartbeats! They're in two sacs, so likely DCDA twins.

I’m obviously totally terrified. I’m a first time mum, so pregnancy is new to me, let alone twin pregnancy. For those of you further along in this journey than me - do you have any advice, anything I should expect? I’m already anxious about things going wrong which I’m cross with myself about as it’d be so nice to just feel joy and excitement!

Hello @BinNightTonight, thank you for checking in! So far, so good! I'm 22 weeks exactly today, had a good anatomy scan just before Christmas with everything looking as it should be for both girls! They also did a cervical length scan for me as incompetent cervix can be especially risky in twin pregnancies and that all looked good.

Physically my bump is pretty huge and I'm definitely feeling the strain on my lower back. Sleeping has also become increasingly difficult (not least the many, many wakeups for a wee in the night). I started feeling movements about 10 days ago and they are proper kicks now which I can feel both internally and with my hand resting on my belly! It's a lovely if slightly weird feeling.

It's funny how time seems to have sped up; the wait to the 12 week scan felt like an eternity but since then it feels like everything has flown. All being well I'll have my c-section in 15 weeks time!

If you sleep on your side, have you got a knee pillow?

Ahh I miss the movements! Mine used to have a fight around midnight and would kick each other like mad.

Haha, I’m convinced mine have to be kicking each other - they’re lying parallel to each other very squished up so they must be! The movements seem so much more strong and frequent as soon as I lie down for sleep. Typical.

I do - and I couldn’t live without it! Seems to be keeping hip pain at bay so far. I also have a pillow that goes round my bump - have joked to DP that getting into bed is like being scaffolded!

Lucky bugger, mine were top and tail so one booting the bladder and one booting the ribs the whole time!

A u shaped pillow was my saving grace for pregnancy, I was prone to back issues beforehand anyway so the ability to lie at any degree required that night was awesome.

Bet you can't wait for the "oh are they twins?", "oh Irish twins, how many months between them?" comments. I swear twins make 90% folk turn daft, and yes my boy girl twins are most definitely identical dear 😉

I have identical twin boys and they are the most amazing thing to have ever happened to me and my husband. You are so lucky!
the baby years are hard but let me tell you, seeing two sets of beautiful eyes and two identical smiles look up at you from their cots in the morning is magical.

I made it to 34 weeks only, due to Twin to twin transfusion. We had 10 days in hospital followed by daily visits from nicu team. The support was unbelievable.

Keep all of your messages to show that you’ve offered time and time again for him to come to your place and spend time with the DTs and also when their appointments are and that you’d like him to be involved and come too.

That way if he ever does apply for a Child Arrangements Order you can prove that you’ve offered contact.

Stay firm though OP. It sounds as if he just wants to show them off rather than him wanting the best for them.
