Twin pushchairs - cybex gazelle or mountain duet

Hi all,

Trying to decide on a buggy for my twins, suitable from birth. I live close to a town centre and want something I can take into cafes and walk around town with. I’ll also need to get on the tram with it occasionally.

I’ve ruled out the bugaboo donkey based on how bulky it is - I don’t want to worry about getting through doors or there being space for it if I want to pop into a coffee shop.

I’m considering the Mountain Buggy Duet, Cybex Gazelle and Cybex eGazelle. Has anyone tried any of these and would you recommend them?

Thanks in advance!

I went to have a look at the mountain buggy duet recently and, although it appealed because it's narrow, it means the seats and carrycots are very narrow. My 2 year old toddler could barely fit in the seat and the carry cot was the width of my two hands internally. It also felt a bit cheap and flimsy for me, despite not being a cheap option. We will probably go for the Bugaboo donkey despite its bulk because it feels so much sturdier and everything clicks on and off easily.

Duet or Out n About Nipper Double. Indestructable and broadly compatible with doors, buses etc. There's a reason you never see anyone with twins over about 12m with a Donkey.

BJCM is brilliant.

Thanks! Is it smooth and good for newborns? I haven’t looked at it in person but the photos online looked like the carrycots were a bit of an after thought shoved on top of the pushchair seats, so I thought it might be aimed more at toddlers.

I think I’d probably need to change after a couple of years anyway as the cybex is a tandem and I’m not sure they work for older kids - I can imagine the kicking seats and fighting over who goes in the top seat! I think the donkey would just give me anxiety when going out on my own not knowing if I could get through doors or if there’ll be space for it!

Yes, my twins were in the Out n About from newborn/effectively 38 weeks!

The Duet has newborn inserts you can buy; the OnAbout doesn't so it can feel a bit like they are rattling around in there - we bought 3rd party inserts to cocoon them a bit better for the first few months.

It is an utterly indestructible pram. We got it used, have used it for 3y+ now and will be able to happily hand it over to another family soon. Couldn't recommend it more.

I had a Duet and it was amazing. The seats are smaller than a single or a more bulky double, but my average size toddler fitted perfectly well in a bulky winter coat at age 2.5. They're not dissimilar in size to our Maclaren Buggy seats.
Likewise the carrycot was smaller than the single one we had for our Mountain Buggy Urban but DC2 still fitted in fine until 4-5 months when they were big enough for the seats. I believe the newer carrycots convert to infant parent-facing seats too.

Plus points - it fits anywhere a single does so no worries about small shops, getting on the bus etc. It's super easy to push one handed (useful when toddler wants to walk and you need to hold their hand). It's a machine and will plough through almost any terrain. Beach, woods, pavements etc. All good!
