Hi guys. I’m pregnant with DCDA twins. Trying to plan when to hand in my maternity notice
I work 40 hours a week, 5 days
Retail manager - on my feet all day
Will I really survive past 28 weeks? I’m 28 weeks beginning of December.

when did you go on maternity leave working FULL TIME and what kind of job did you?
maybe I can go part time in November. I doubt I’ll be able to work through any Christmas sales!

That sounds hard OP. I had an office job so was sitting down most of the time but it did involve a commute on a train for about 30 minutes and I didn't always get a seat, despite a huge bump!

So I left about 9 weeks before mine were due (CS at 37 weeks).

Can you ask for any accommodations… I’d try and hang in as long as I could tbh

youll want those 2 months at the end

Donimo · 11/10/2024 12:28

I'm a Physiotherapist so quite a physical job but had to have quite a lot of adaptations towards the end. I only worked 3 days per week but the other days I had a toddler. I planned to work till 35 weeks but the twins came early at 33 weeks. The last few weeks were hard though and with the amount of appointments I had I only really went into work 2 days a week. As the third day most of the day was spent in hospital appointments

Pluckpluckyplucked · 11/10/2024 13:45

Plan to leave as late as possible, its easier to move it forward than back. I said I'd leave at 37 weeks, however I was put on bed rest at 25 weeks so went on to sick leave and then started mat leave at 36 weeks.
You'll need more time off after (childcare for 2 is expensive)!

Ohthatsabitshit · 11/10/2024 13:50

I would have really struggled after 25 weeks. I was just exhausted.

leavesandsleeves · 12/10/2024 21:18

Is this your first pregnancy?
I finished at 31+5. Babies arrived at 37+2. I probably could’ve worked an extra couple of weeks but definitely felt it got harder from 33w on. With my first i worked until 38w, finished on the Friday but he arrived 2 weeks early on the Sunday. So wanted to make sure I def had some time before my twins arrival.
I work full time but an office job, I think it would be much harder if on your feet all day.

StressedQueen · 12/10/2024 21:28

Had a full time office job then and I left at about 29 weeks. Reckon I could have gone on a bit longer but I was so exhausted.

KK0602 · 12/10/2024 21:29

@leavesandsleeves Hey yes it is my first time. So everything is all new to me! I’m on my feet all day. There is barely any tasks to do sitting down so really not sure how I’ll manage. I already having back and pelvis issues so I can just imagine it getting worse? Specially with two babies in there! If I reduce my hours then it will affect my maternity pay also!

@TemuSpecialBuy Yes I can ask for some adjustments. But I feel awkward asking?! Aren’t they meant to be checking up on me? My manager is a bit useless. I can imagine asking her for adjustments and she not knowing what to do, as there isn’t many tasks to do sitting down

I stopped at 30weeks and had them at 36weeks. I possibly could have lasted until 32 weeks. I stopped as it was summer holidays and I worked in a school. I had a toddler though so it wasn’t exactly restful. If they’re identical then 37 weeks is classed as full term.

poorbuthappy · 12/10/2024 21:33

Things started going slightly wrong at 30 weeks for me. A couple of hospital admissions with me working 3-4 days a week for the last 2 weeks. Ended up having them at 34 weeks, natural start to labour with emergency section. I just kept driving and kept going. Appreciate it's different for everyone

KK0602 · 12/10/2024 21:34

@TeenLifeMum Okay, yes I’m thinking to give my maternity notice for 31 weeks which is just before the Christmas sales. If I can’t manage before then on my feet all day I’ll have to work it out with adjustments or sick note I suppose. I have DCDA twins, midwife said I won’t go past 38 weeks

DCDA twins as well. I sit in front of a computer and type and I was DONE at 27ish weeks. Just so exhausted. People say "try to hang on" but honestly just listen to your body, it was really only designed to carry one 😬🫣😬

Twinsybalinsy · 14/10/2024 12:05

I finished at 31 weeks working full time in an office based role but it was very tough going by that point and I was avoiding commuting whenever I could. It was also a complicated pregnancy so I was in and out of hospital several times a week at that point. Babies arrived at 34 weeks.

Msrachel · 14/10/2024 12:10

I planned to finish at 33 (they were expected to come at 34 due to complications) with my mcda twins but they came at 32 on the dot.

I have an office job and was very much struggling by 28w and looking back I wish I’d stopped at 30w, I think on your feet all day will be very tough.

KK0602 · 14/10/2024 13:22

Thank you ladies for your feedback!
I have one week annual leave to use so just deciding if I should use that on the 27th week and start maternity from 28th week. Or use the annual leave at 28th week and start 29th week!
think I have to accept I won’t be able to make it past 28 weeks being on my feet 9 hours a day 😂
